The heat generation tests of SiC and MO$_2$ samples by use of a microwave heating system were carried out and UO$_2$+5 wt% CeO$_2$ pellets were sintered in a microwave furnace in an oxidizing atmosphere, by taking into account the characteristics of the microwave heating obtained from the heat generation tests. The characteristics of pellets sintered in a microwave furnace were analysed and compared with those of the pellets sintered in a conventional electrical furnace. The temperature of MO$_2$ pellets with microwave heating increased quickly with input power and the variation of output power depended on the reaction characteristics of SiC and MO$_2$ with microwave. The sintered density of UO$_2$+5wt% CeO$_2$ pellets sintered in the microwave furnace was lower about 2% T.D. than that of the pellets sintered in an electrical furnace with sintering parameters. The microstructure of pellets sintered in microwave furnace has a broader pore distribution but has a larger grain size than that of the pellets sintered in the electrical furnace.

In this study, we proposed a new method that can estimate viscosity curves of unknown samples or high viscous resins like LFT(Long Fiber Thermoplastics). First, we built the system that could detect the pressure of melt during filling the cavity in a mold. It consists of both pressure sensors which are installed in a mold and the Kit which can convert analog signal to digital signal. The kit measures the melt pressure in mold cavity. We could also simulate the cavity pressure during filling process with commercialized CAE softwares(ex, Moldflow). If the viscosity data in CAE Database were correct, the simulated pressure profile coincided with the measured one. According to our proposed algorithm, we obtained correct viscosity data by iterating the process of comparing the simulated profile with the measured one until both coincided each other. In order to verify this algorithm, we selected well-defined PP resin and concluded that the experimental profile comply with the CAE profile. We could also estimate the optimized viscosity curves for PP-LFT by applying our method.
We measure a beam diameter of scan and sub-scan direction of LSD (Laser Scanning Urnt) which uses $fheta$ lens produced by injecLion molding method as a scanning lens. While the measured beam diameter in scan direction, which is $62muextrm{m}$ to $68\mu\textrm{m}$, shows similar size comparing to the design beam diameter, the sub-scan beam diameter shows sIzable beam diameter deviation as much as 37 11m ranging from $78\mu\textrm{m}$ to $115\mu\textrm{m}$. Injection molding lens has the surface figure error due to the shrinkage III the cooling time and the internal distortion (birefringence) due to the uneven cooling conditIOn so that these bring about wavefront aberration (i.e., the enlargement of beam size), and are eventually expre~sed as the deterioration of the pdnting image. In this paper. we first measure and analyze beam diameter, birefringence (polanzation ratio), and asphedcal figure error of mIens in order to know the principle cause of the beam diameter deviation in sub-scan directIOn. And Lhen. through the analysis of a designed depth of focus and a calculated field curvature (imaging position of the optical axis directIon) using the above figure elTor data, we know Lhat the birefringence IS the main factor of sizable beam diameter deVIation in sub-scan direction. ction.

In this study, a heat-transfer performance analysis is carried out for a multi-channel volumetric air receiver for a solar power tower. On the basis of a series of reviews regarding the relevant literature, a calculation process is proposed for the prediction of the wall- and air- temperature distributions of a single channel at given geometric and input conditions. Furthermore, a unique mathematical model of the receiver effectiveness is presented through analysis of the temperature profile. The receiver is made of silicon carbide. A total of 225 square straight channels per module are molded to induce the air flow, and each channel has the dimensions of $2mm(W){\times}2mm(H){\times}0.2mm(t){\times}320mm(L)$. The heat-transfer rate, temperature distribution and effectiveness are presented according to the variation of the channel and module number under uniform irradiation and mass flow rate. The available air outlet temperature applied to the solar power tower should be over $700^{\circ}C$. This numerical model was actually used in the design of a 200 kW-level commercial solar air receiver, and the required number of modules satisfying the thermal performance could be obtained for the specified geometric and input conditions.

In this paper, a frequency doubler using modified time-delay technique is proposed. A voltage controlled delay line (VCDL) in the proposed frequency doubler compensates the group delay time mismatching between input and delayed signal. With the group delay time matching and waveform shaping using the adjustable Schmitt triggers, the unwanted fundamental component($f_0$) and the higher order harmonics such as third and fourth are diminished excellently. In result, only the doubled frequency component($2f_0$) appears dominantly at the output port. The frequency doubler is designed at 1.15 GHz of $f_0$ and fabricated with TSMC $0.18\;{\mu}m$ CMOS process. The measured output power at $2f_0$ is 2.67 dBm when the input power is 0 dBm. The obtained suppression ratio of $f_0,\;3f_0$, and $4f_0$ to $2f_0$ are 43.65, 38.65 and 35.59 dB, respectively.

A magnitude 5.4 earthquake struck the city of Pohang, North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea on November 15, 2017. Many sand volcanoes were observed on paddy fields, parks and roads. This phenomenon was the first to be observed as a sign of soil liquefaction in South Korea. In this study, two different kinds of ejected Pohang sands were collected from a liquefied paddy field. Those sands were reconstituted into loose and dense conditions and then a series of cyclic simple shear tests were conducted under confining stresses of 100 and 200 kPa. A real earthquake motion was also repetitively applied to the specimen. As a result of constant shear stress tests, the cyclic resistance ratio (CRR) of loose sand was 0.12-0.14, while the CRR value of dense sand was 0.17-0.21. It was shown that the relative density was more influencing factor on liquefaction resistance than the sand types and initial confining stress. When a real Pohang earthquake motion was repetitively applied to the specimen, a loose sand was liquefied at the second earthquake motion but the dense sand at the third earthquake motion.
This paper introduces a novel method to quantify the morphological evolution of the strain response envelope. The strain response envelope is defined as an image in strain increment space corresponding to the unit stress input in stress space. Based on the shape of strain response envelopes, the deformation characteristics of soils can be described using the framework of elastic-plastic theory. Fourier descriptor analysis was used to investigate the morphological characteristics of strain response envelopes. The numerical results show that when the stress input remains in the initial yield surface the Fourier descriptors remain constant. Once the stress input crosses the initial yield surface, every descriptors deals in this study change. Numerical and experimental results of this study show that clear yielding response is only found in natural block samples. Among the Fourier descriptors, the descriptor called as asymmetry is the best for detecting the yield and is minimally sensitive to the number of input stress paths.

Take-out robots used for handling of the plastic parts manufactured with the injection mold are usually the gantry type that consists of long and thin links, The performance of the take-out robot is determined by the speed of the motion and the positioning accuracy to grab the part out of the mold, As the speed of the robot increases the flexure in the links of the take-out robot becomes more significant and it results in more residual vibration, The residual vibration deteriorates the positioning accuracy and compels the operator to slow down the motion of the robot. The typical method to reduce the vibration in the robot requires stiffening the links and/or slowing down the robot, Vibration control could achieve the desired performance without increasing the manufacturing cost or the operation cost that would be incurred otherwise, Considering the point-to-point nature of the task to be performed by the take-out robot the time-delay command (or input) shaping filter approach would be the most effective control method to be adopted among a few available control schemes. In this paper a direct adaptive command shaping filter (ACSF) algorithm has been modified and applied to design the optimal command shaping filters for various configuration of the take-out robot. Optimal filters designed by ACSF algorithm have been implemented on a take-out robot and the effectiveness of the designed filters in terms of vibration suppression has been verified for multiple positions of the robot.

Injection molding is the most common method of shaping plastic resins for manufacturing a variety of parts. This injection molding is accomplished by injection molding machines (IMM) which consists of a hewer, a reciprocating screw, barrel assembly, and an injection nozzle. The plastic resin is fed to the machine through the hopper and it should be heated to the target melting temperature, which depends on material properties, as closely as possible with very small temperature overshoot in the barrel. Since the barrel, which has temperature dependent specific heat and thermal conductivity in the operating temperature range, is heated by the several electric heater bands, it is not an easy task to control the temperature of the barrel owing to the interference of neighboring heaters and its material properties. Though PID controller with auto-tuning capability is widely adopted in the nm, the auto-tuning process should be carried out whenever the operating temperature is changed significantly. Recently, though the predictive controller is developed and shows good performance, it has drawbacks: 1. Since the heat transfer modeling process is very complicated and should be carried out again when the barrel is changed, it is somewhat inappropriate in the field. 2. The controller performance is not validated in whole operating temperature range. In this paper, cascade type simple PI controller with input restriction is proposed to find the possibility of controlling the barrel temperature in the whole operating temperature range. It is shown by experiment that the proposed controller shows good performance. This result can be applied to design of PI controller with auto-tuning capability.
In this study, the influence of progressive consolidation from the drainage boundary on the subsequent process of consolidation was investigated. Analytical theory and numerical program f3r consolidation of clayey soil were developed based on finite difference method, in which spatial variation of permeability and volume compressibility were implemented. And model ground with normally consolidated clayey soils and a vertical drain at its center were simulated. Various types of soils with different relations between coefficient of volume compressibility and permeability and void ratio were applied. Also numerical simulations based on the properties of the normally consolidated clay at Nakdong River basin and reconstituted kaolinite soil were performed to recognize its practical impact. Consequently, it is found out that retardation of consolidation induced by progressive consolidation is very important to understand consolidation behavior on field conditions and its effect is remarkable at the initial state of consolidation, and increases with plasticity index and applied load.
