  • 점진적 개념 학습 알고리즘인 COBWEB은 클래스 정보가 주어지지 않은 사례들(instances)을 분류하기 위하여 사례의 속성과 값에 근거하여 학습하며 각 노드가 유사한 사례들의 집합인 클래스에 해당하는 분류 트리를 생성하는 알고리즘이다. 유사한 사례들을 같은 클래스로 분류하기 위한 기준으로 category utility가 사용되며 이는 클래스 내부의 유사도와 클래스간의 차이점을 최대화하는 방향으로 클래스를 분류한다 기존의 COBWEB에 사용되는 category utility는 클래스 사이즈와 예측 정확성 사이의 tradeoff 관계로 볼 수 있으며, 이로 인하여 예측 정확성은 약간 감소하나 클래스 사이즈가 커지는 방향으로 학습이 진행 될 수 있는 편향성(bias)를 가지고 있다. 이는 분류 트리에 불필요한 클래스 노드들(spurious nodes)을 생성하게 하여 학습 결과인 클래스 개념을 이해하는뎨 어렵게 한다. 본 논문에서는 클래스와 그에 속하는 사례들의 속성-값 분포를 고려하여 클래스와 속성의 연관성에 비례한 가충치를 더한 변형된 category utility를 제안하고, dataset에 대한 실험을 통하여 제안된 category utility가 기존의 큰 클래스 사이즈를 선호하는 bias를 완화시킴을 보이고자 한다.

A Comparison of the effects of Static Graphic and Animation in CAI by visual learning preference (시각적 학습 선호도에 따른 정화상 CAI와 애니메이션 CAI의 효과 비교)

  • This study investigated the effect of visual learning preference levels in computer assisted instruction (CAI) using static graphics and animations on students' conceptual understandings, application abilities and learning motivations. Fifty-nine seventh graders were selected from a middle school in seoul, and they were taught about the motion of molecule for 4 class hours. Two-way ANCOVA results revealed that the scores of the conception test of the animations group, regardless of student's visual learning preference levels, were significantly higher than those of the static graphics group. However, there were no differences between the two groups in the scores of application test and learning motivation test.

  • 우리는 인터넷을 통한 사용자의 선호도(preference)를 분석하고 협력적 여과 기술을 학습하여 유머문서를 추천하는 MrHumor 시스템을 구축하였다. MrHumor에서는 사용자집합이 유머문서 집합에 대하여 보여준 등급매김값을 토대로 사용집합의 백터공간(vector space)를 설정하고 노이즈에 강하면서 효율적인 학습을 위해 선형 PCA를 이용하여 축소된 2차원 공간상에서 유머문서의 통계적 특성을 반영하여 적응형 k-NN으로 지엽성을 적적히 조절하여 새로운 문서에 대한 선호도를 추정하게 된다.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of flipped learning strategy, which is an online offline convergence learning strategy becoming a hot issue, on students' learning styles..Ultimately, the goal is to analyze the academic achievements and learning attitudes by applying the flipped learning strategy considering the preferred learning styles of Korean students. By assuming that Korean students are accustomed to traditional lecture class, it is assumed that the students would have difficulty in applying the flipped learning strategy which involves information gathering and problem solving through discussion. In order to analyze whether the application of flipped learning strategy is effective, it is necessary to identify students' preferred learning style and to develop appropriate teaching strategies accordingly.

  • This paper is a study on the methodology of making customized contents according to user 's tendency through the development of learning contents utilizing IT. A variety of learners around the world use mobile devices and mobile learning contents to conduct their learning activities in various fields, and foreign language learning is one of the typical mobile learning areas. Foreign language learning contents suggested in this study is constructed based on the learner's verbal and text information in accordance with the user's vocal tendency. It is necessary to find out a suitable method to translate the user's native language text into the target language and make it into user friendly content.

Ensemble learning of Regional Experts (지역 전문가의 앙상블 학습)

  • We present a new ensemble learning method that employs the set of region experts, each of which learns to handle a subset of the training data. We split the training data and generate experts for different regions in the feature space. When classifying a data, we apply a weighted voting among the experts that include the data in their region. We used ten datasets to compare the performance of our new ensemble method with that of single classifiers as well as other ensemble methods such as Bagging and Adaboost. We used SMO, Naive Bayes and C4.5 as base learning algorithms. As a result, we found that the performance of our method is comparable to that of Adaboost and Bagging when the base learner is C4.5. In the remaining cases, our method outperformed the benchmark methods.

A Study on Menu-Layout Preference of the Learner's Properties (아동의 특성에 따른 선호하는 메뉴 레이아웃에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to determine the differences in menu-layout preference for learners based on their demographics. The experiment was conducted in this manner: three class second grade and three class sixth grade elementary school students were separated by sex, grade, age and cognitive style such as field-dependent and field-independent. They were asked to choose which menu layouts they preferred or did not prefer out of 6 different types. The results of the research are as follows: First, there were no differences in sex, grade and cognitive style for preferences in the menu layout but there were meaningful differences with regard to age. Second grade students preferred map-type layout, but sixth grade students preferred the type having a main menu across the top with a sub menu in roll over. Second, there was a difference with regard to age as to what they do not prefer. Overall, the results of this study suggest that the menu layout for a learning web site on the internet needs to be different according to their age.

Effect of forming groups according to the brain hemisphere preference on the cooperative problem solving learning achievement in the middle school technology (중학교 기술 교과의 협동적 문제해결학습에서 좌우뇌 선호도에 따른 소집단 구성이 학업성취도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the effect of forming groups according to the brain hemisphere preference on the cooperative problem solving learning achievement in the middle school technology. The subjects of this study were 95 second grade boy students of a middle school in Daejeon and the measurement instrument of the left and right hemisphere preference is the Brain preference Indicator(BPI) which had been developed by Torrance et al(1977) and was adjusted by Ko, Younghee(1991). The academic achievement was analyzed on cognitive, psychomotor and affective domains. Derived results from this research are stated below: First, making groups according that the brain preference is more similar was more effective than making groups according to the high familiarity and the similarity of performance in the academic achievement of psychomotor and affective domains. Second, making groups according that the brain preference is more similar was more effective than making groups according that the brain preference is more diffrent for the academic achievement of affective domains on the cooperative problem solving learning in technology. Third, the academic achievement score of the right hemisphere preference group is higher than the score of the population in three domains. Also, the academic achievement score of the right hemisphere preference group is higher than the score of the left hemisphere preference group.

Learning Styles and Perceptions on Subject Matter Content by Science Gifted Elementary Students (초등학교 과학 영재들의 교과 내용 인식과 학습 양식)

  • The purpose of the study was to research science gifted students' learning styles and perceptions on subject matter content. The data was collected from primary science and mathematics classes of a University Center for Science Gifted Education, science classes of a Metrocity Primary Gifted Education Institute, and classes of a normal school. The results of the study were that gifted students perceived the school curriculum much easier than non-gifted students did, ($X^2(4)=33.180$, p<.001), and that levels of interest in the content did not differ between the groups, but 34.6 percent of the total students responded that they found the content uninteresting. Gifted students did not see the content as being important compared to the non-gifted students, ($X^2(4)=12.443$, p<.05), and gifted students valued the methods used higher than the actual content of the textbook. The most helpful activities for their teaming that gifted students chose were projects, listening to teachers, and conducting experiments, amongst others. They also preformed 'teaming at their own speed in a mixed group'" for the study of social studies, science, and mathematics, whereas non-gifted students preformed teaming at the same speed. The two groups of science gifted students varied especially in their perceptions of most helpful activities. It is suggested that special programs for fulfilling gifted students' needs and abilities need to be developed and implemented.

The effects of Problem-Based Learning in Home Economics on self-efficacy: Focused on family relations area (고등학교 가정과 수업에서 문제중심학습이 자아효능감에 미치는 효과: 가족관계 영역을 중심으로)

  • The Purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Problem-Based Learning in Home Economics on self-efficacy, focused on family relations area in high school. In this study, Problem-Based Learning lesson plan was developed and applied to 32 freshmen of high school as an experimental group. Lecture-style lesson was applied to the other 32 students as a control group. Significant differences between pre-test and post-test scores of self-efficacy were found in the experimental group. Post-test scores of self-efficacy were higher than pre-test scores in the experimental group. There were no significant differences between pre-test and Post-test scores of self-efficacy in the control group. The subjective evaluation from students in the experimental group indicated that Problem-Based Learning lesson was effective in helping them to take an active Part in class and increasing interests in Home Economics.
