Development of LVDT-Based Measuring System of the Cylinder Liner Wear for Marine Diesel Engines and Its Performance Evaluation (LVDT를 이용한 선박용 디젤 엔진의 실린더 라이너 마모 계측시스템 개발 및 성능평가)

  • This paper introduces a new system which measures abrasion quantity of cylinder liners of large-scale marine diesel engines. The proposed system consists of three parts; measurement part where an LVDT, a temperature sensor, a camera and LED for lighting control are installed, monitoring part which accomplishes measurement command transmission and monitoring based on PC or notebook, and master control part which controls the measurement part and transfers measurement data to the monitoring part. The accuracy of the developed system is compared with that of an internal micrometer with 1/100 mm accuracy.

  • 본 논문에서는 선박 디젤엔진의 속도를 조절함에 있어서 환경 변화에서도 지속적으로 만족스러운 성능을 유지하도록 시스템 파라미터 추정자, 제어기 계수 수정자를 결합한 자기동조 PID 제어기를 설계한다. 유전알고리즘을 기반으로 한 온라인 추정자가 시스템의 파라미터를 추정하면, 제어기 계수 수정자는 제안한 동조규칙으로 계수를 조정하게 된다. 이를 위해 시스템을 시간지연 1차 모델로 근사화하여 유전알고리즘 기반으로 그 파라미터를 온라인 추정하는 문제를 다룬다. 제안한 방법의 성능은 B&W사의 4L80MC 디젤엔진을 제어대상으로 퍼지모델을 얻고 모의실험을 통하여 확인한다.

  • 본 연구에서는 소형선박용 고속디젤기관의 고장으로 발생되는 해양사고를 저감하기 위하여 엔진의 상태를 사전에 기관운전자가 알 수 있도록 시스템을 구성하여 기존의 엔진에 이상이 발생하였을때 가시가청 경보를 울리는 것보다 한 단계 전에 엔진의 상태를 미리 알 수 있도록 하여, 기관의 고장으로 인한 해양사고 저감에 목표를 두고 과제를 진행하였다. 또한, 대형선박에서 사용하고 있는 고가의 고성능을 발휘하는 고장예측진단시스템은 많이 개발되어 있으나, 영세한 소형어선에 적용할 수 있는 소형의 저렴한 시스템 개발에 최종목표를 두고 1차년도 연구과제를 수행하였다.

Optimal Design of New Magnetorheological Mount for Diesel Engines of Ships (선박용 디젤엔진을 위한 새로운 MR 마운트의 최적설계)

  • This paper presents an optimal design of a magnetorheological(MR) fluid-based mount(MR mount) that can be used for to vibration control in diesel engines of ships. In this work, a mount that uses mixed-modes(squeeze mode, flow mode, and shear mode) is proposed and designed. To determine the actuating damping force of the MR mount required for efficient vibration control, the excitation force from a diesel engine is analyzed. In this analysis, a model of a V-type engine is considered. The relationship between the velocity and pressure of gas in terms of the torque acting on the piston is derived. Subsequently, by integrating the field-dependent rheological properties of commercially available MR fluid with the excitation force, the appropriate size of the MR mount is designed. In addition, to achieve the maximum actuating force under geometric constraints, design optimization is undertaken using the ANSYS parametric design language software. Through magnetic density analysis, optimal design parameters such as the bottom gap and radius of coil are determined.

  • In this paper, the NOx emission and the reduction technologies of NOx emission for domestic marine diesel engine were investigated. At first, the present production status of domestic marine diesel engines was investigated. In the next, the NOx emission of domestic marine diesel engines was investigated. Finally, the present status of a reduction technologies of NOx emission was investigated. From this investigation, It could be founded that the domestic marine diesel engines satisfied the IMO current NOx regulations, however the higher technologies must be studied to prepare the more severe IMO regulations of the near future.

Investigation on emission characteristics of nitrous oxide from marine diesel engine (선박용 디젤엔진에서 아산화질소의 배출특성에 대한 연구)

  • Nitrous oxide ($N_2O$) is naturally generated from biological activity, such as bacteria's material exchange. However, recent $N_2O$ concentration in the atmosphere has being increased by the human activities such as industrial growth. One of factors to increase $N_2O$ concentration in the atmosphere is a $N_2O$ emission caused by the combustion of marine fuel oils. The marine transportation presently handles over 99 percent of the international freight cargoes and the number of ship is continuously increasing with increment of cargoes. In this study, author conducted a series of the experimental investigations on which combustion of fuels containing different element concentrations used in a 4-stroke marine diesel engine affect $N_2O$ emissions in the exhaust gas. Moreover, it is assessed on the extent to which fuel combustion patterns in the combustion chamber affect $N_2O$ emissions.
