Framing Instead of Solving: Approaching the Wicked problem of Restaurant Food Waste through Service Design Research (해결대신 프레이밍: 서비스 디자인 연구를 통해음식점 음식물쓰레기라는 난제에 접근)

  • The hospitality and food service sector is the food sector that generates the most food waste. To deliver a more sustainable service, the food service industry needs to understand and reduce customer plate waste, which is mostly avoidable. Several studies have investigated the drivers of plate waste behaviors and proposed mitigations. However, service designers need actionable insights that inspire innovative solutions. The goals of this study are twofold. The first goal is to identify factors influencing young consumers' food waste behavior in restaurants. The second goal is to frame food waste challenges as design opportunities for service designers. A photo diary was conducted with 10 Korean university students. Participants took before and after photos of two meals and fill out questionnaires. The questions include personal background, considerations when choosing a meal, satisfaction with the meal, and reasons for leaving food. Both qualitative and quantitative data were collected and analyzed. The results suggest that lack of awareness and control are the key drivers of leftovers. The food waste problem is framed into "How Might We" design opportunities for service design. Interventions should focus on improving communication with oneself, dining partners, and restaurants. The paper contributes by demonstrating the service design research approach to framing wicked problems with the example of restaurant food waste.

The Relationships among Consumer Lifestyle, Media Usage, and Adoption of Nscreen Service (소비자의 라이프스타일 및 미디어 이용과 N스크린 서비스 수용 간의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of factors related to consumer lifestyle and media usage on the adoption of Nscreen service, which is fundamentally changing both the competitive landscape for business and the daily lives of consumers. The data of 8,524 consumers used in this study were drawn from the first Korea Media Panel Study in 2012 of Korea Information Society Development Institute and the characteristics of adopters and non-adopters were compared. The study also aims to explore the usage pattern of Nscreen as well as antecedent variables that affect the innovative service usage. Logistic regression analysis shows various factors affects the acceptance of this innovation. This is only a first step in the important process of understanding the nature of relationship between consumer lifestyle and the adoption of Nscreen service. Gaining a comprehensive understanding of the drivers of Nscreen usage will help engineers and marketers to develop effective strategies that meet consumer needs for innovative services.

모바일 증권 서비스 이용에 관한 연구

  • As the development of wireless technologies continue, mobile stock trading has become a new channel for companies to reach their customers. This study examines the factors affecting customer acceptance of mobile stock trading services. The research model based on the previous studies was established and the research hypotheses were generated. The sample was divided into users and nonuser groups. The test results show that relative advantage and social influence are positively related to intention to accept mobile services as well as in intention to reuse, security risk is negatively related to intention to reuse, frequency of trading is positively related to intention to reuse, cost burden is negatively related to the probability of using mobile stock trading services, and social influence is positively related to the probability of using mobile services. The results also support that information quality and response time are positively related to relative advantage, and interface quality is negatively related to complexity. It is considered that the study results may help managers to increase customer use of mobile stock trading services.

Systemic literature review on the impact of government financial support on innovation in private firms (정부의 기술혁신 재정지원 정책효과에 대한 체계적 문헌연구)

  • The government has supported the innovation of private firms by intervening the market for various purposes, such as preventing market failure, alleviating information asymmetry, and allocating resources efficiently. Although the government's R&D budget increased rapidly in the 2000s, it is not clear whether the government intervention has made desirable impact on the market. To address this, the current study attempts to explore this issue by doing a systematic literature review on foreign and domestic papers in an integrated way. In total, 168 studies are analyzed using contents analysis approach and various lens, such as policy additionality, policy tools, firm size, unit of analysis, data and method, are adopted for analysis. Overlapping policy target, time lag between government intervention and policy effects, non-linearity of financial supports, interference between different polices, and out-dated R&D tax incentive system are reported as factors hampering the effect of the government intervention. Many policy prescriptions, such as program evaluation indices reflecting behavioral additionality, an introduction of policy mix and evidence-based policy using machine learning, are suggested to improve these hurdles.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate factors related to use-diffusion of Nscreen service as well as consumers' lifestyle and media usage of Nscreen service, which is fundamentally changing both the competitive landscape for business and the daily lives of consumers. The data of 1,524 consumers used in this study were drawn from the first Korea Media Panel Study in 2012 of Korea Information Society Development Institute. This study categorized adopters depending on the usage rate of contents and the variety of media platforms they used. Consumers using various media platforms enjoyed more categories of contents provided by Nscreen services. The variety of media platforms was useful in grouping users to explain the difference between the groups in terms of lifestyle activities. Based on the factor analysis and cluster analysis based on the consumers' lifestyle to find out different characteristics of each clusters, the result elicited some implications.

  • 최근 기후변화로 인해 국내 기상특성이 변화하고 그에 따라 홍수, 가뭄(건천화) 및 폭염 등 물 관련 재해 발생 빈도가 증가하고 규모 또한 점점 커지고 있다. 또한, 세계적으로 태풍 및 가뭄발생 빈도도 꾸준히 증가하고 있어 정확한 예측 및 즉각적 대처능력 확보를 위한 방안이 필요한 실정이다. 아울러 급격한 도시화로 인한 빈번한 내수범람 및 유역차원의 홍수범람 등으로 인해 재난발생 시 그 피해가 극대화로 직결되고 있어 재난 시 발생할 수 있는 피해 현황을 정확하게 예 경보하기 위한 실시간 수재해 정보 서비스 및 모니터링이 가능한 통합 관리 기술이 필요하다. 이를 위해 현실에서 실시간으로 수재해 관련 부가정보를 영상으로 표출하고, 이를 종합적으로 분석하여 서비스할 수 있는 증강현실 모니터링 시스템을 개발 하고자 한다. 이를 통해 홍수, 가뭄(건천화) 및 태풍 등 물 관련 재해 현황을 실시간으로 감시하고 예측하여 대처 할 수 있는 정보 생산과 서비스 및 모니터링 등의 통합 관리가 가능할 것으로 판단된다. 이에 본 연구에서는 사용자가 손쉽게 소통할 수 있는 수재해 정보 서비스 구현을 위한 맞춤형 기술을 개발하고자 빅데이터 기반의 수재해 정보 증강현실(AR) 적용성 연구를 수행하였다. 이를 위해 재해 발생 시 빠르게 대처하기 위한 시스템을 구축하고자 관리자 및 사용자를 고려한 GUI 설계 및 수재해 정보의 Global 위성지도 기반 3D 시각화 적용을 위한 방안을 제시하고자 한다. 향후 스마트폰 기능을 적극적으로 활용하여 재해 대처 방안 및 행동 요령을 효과적으로 전달함으로써 재난 피해를 줄일 수 있는 애플리케이션(App) 개발을 진행할 예정이다. 개발된 증강현실 모니터링 시스템은 수재해 정보 서비스를 향상시키고 효율적인 예방 및 대처를 실현함으로써 국가 물 관련 재해를 혁신할 수 있는 기술을 확보하는 소중한 토대가 될 것으로 사료된다.

How the Strength of Parent Brand Associations Influences the User Acceptance of Extended brand: Internet of Things Perspective (사용자의 확장브랜드 수용과 모브랜드의 영향력: 사물인터넷을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of the research is to identify the effects of brand evidence, brand personality and negative factors on extended brand trust and customer purchase intention in IoT (Internet of Things) service. Negative factors include scarcity marketing and privacy concern. To achieve this objective, we analyzed the 269 respondents who had used Xiaomi products at least more than once. The results of this study are as follows: First, it was found that core service, self-image congruence of brand evidence and brand personality has a positive influence on extended brand trust. But, perceived price of brand evidence is not related to extended brand trust. Secondly, Scarcity marketing influenced extended brand trust. But, Privacy concern is not related to extended brand trust. Consumers did not realize privacy because of technological innovation of IoT. Thus, the research has a different significance from antecedent research.

Gendered innovation for algorithm through case studies (음성·영상 신호 처리 알고리즘 사례를 통해 본 젠더혁신의 필요성)

  • Gendered innovations is a term used by policy makers and academics to refer the process of creating better research and development (R&D) for both men and women. In this paper, we analyze the literatures in image and speech signal processing that can be used in ICT, examine the importance of gendered innovations through case study. Therefore the latest domestic and foreign literature related to image and speech signal processing based on gender research is searched and a total of 9 papers are selected. In terms of gender analysis, research subjects, research environment, and research design are examined separately. Especially, through the case analysis of algorithms of the elderly voice signal processing, machine learning, machine translation technology, and facial gender recognition technology, we found that there is gender bias in existing algorithms, and which leads to gender analysis is required. We also propose a gendered innovations method integrating sex and gender analysis in algorithm development. Gendered innovations in ICT can contribute to the creation of new markets by developing products and services that reflect the needs of both men and women.

  • Recently, mobile marketing is becoming one of the major topics of interest to the marketing discipline. Emerging from rapid developments in mobile technology, it has created opportunities for new and innovative mobile services. Also, it is enabling to conduct always-on connections that consumers can interact anytime and anywhere. Especially, mobile devices place themselves to the core means of mobile-commerce which to execute a function as a distribution channel in mobile environments. Although the adoption researches about innovative services or technologies had executed in marketing areas over the past decades, most researches just expanded or modified existing theories and explanation models. There has been little study on the comprehensive and systematic review of adoption process. Therefore, it deserves to be considered prior usage experiences of the existing channels(CL) and attractiveness of the new channel(CLalt) based on social exchange theory. In order to address this void, this study unifies components of perceived attributes in the each dimensions (ie. benefit, cost, and risk dimensions) and explores prior usage experiences of the existing channels on adoption intention in electronic financial service channels through developing comprehensive model and employing empirical test for the hierarchy of effects model. Based on these empirical results, this study suggests managerial implications for new channel management in electronic financial service areas by focusing on the prior usage experiences of the existing objects on adoption intention and perceived attributes of ubiquitous-based mobile service channel.
