The musical instruments displayed in Korean Museums consist of various materials such as wood, stone, metal, leather, and soil. As for instruments manufactured of organic materials, as time passed, they became damaged due to physical, chemical and biological effects. In order to restore these instruments, studies on the materials as well as the manufacturing techniques should be simultaneously conducted because of the characteristics of sound making instruments. In this study, 17th century Double bass were chosen as the model for the restoration study. The type of wood was identified and the finishing layer was analyzed. To investigate the finishing layer, the surface observation was conducted and the component analysis was also conducted by using both FT-IR and SEM-EDS. As a result, the species of wood were identified as the maple trees. In case of the finishing layer of it, the diluted Goma Lacca, a type of resin, with alcohol as the main solvent was covered for varnishing layer. These results were combined to determine the restoration of Double bass Maggini Giovanni Paolo varnishing layer and by this Violin was made.
The ecology of rhizome rot incidence rates between Seosan, Chungnam and Bongdong, Chonbuk province were surveyed in this experiment. The rhizome rot incidence rate of Seosan was lower than that of Bongdong. The average ginger product of former province was 1,140kg, whereas it's 818kg per 10a. in latter province. Treatment after disease incidence frequently used fungicide at Seosan. There were different soil physiological property between fields. Although Eunhari and Yulsori were belong to Bongdong province, incidence rate was low at Eunhari, contained 23% clay and high incidence rate at Yulsori, approximately contained 60% silt. Many soil chemical properties of cultivated area were belong to optimum concentration range, but phosphate(P) was higher than optimum concentration, 450-550ppm. The number of soil fungi in the middle of cultivated season tended to show the highest. Both bacteria and actinomyces` number was similar to the result of fungi. The bacteria/fungi ratio was greatly different between surveyed fields.
People observe a lot of events in our environment and we do not have any difficulty to perceive events including speech perception. Like perception of biological motion, two main theorists have debated on speech perception. The purpose of this review article is to briefly describe speech perception and compare these two theories of speech perception. Motor theorists claim that speech perception is special to human because we both produce and perceive articulatory events that are processed by innate neuromotor commands. However, direct perception theorists claim that speech perception is not different from nonspeech perception because we only need to detect information directly like all other kinds of event. It is important to grasp the fundamental idea of how human perceive articulatory events for the convergence on speech engineering. Thus, this basic review of speech perception is expected to be able to used for AI, voice recognition technology, speech recognition system, etc.

Crop loss and damage by wildlife are becoming more serious to residents inside and around National Parks of Korea annually. It could be caused by small size of Parks, which is couples of ten $km^2$ only, and more than a third of total parks' areas are belonging to privates. Wild boar (Sus scrofa) is one of the most harmful pests in nationwide. Treading down crop field using as bedding or resting site are major damaged types and foraging behavior is following. Besides of boars, Korean water deer (Hydropotes inermis), racoon dog (Nyctereutes procyonoides), and badger (Meles meles) are another serious pests. Mainly, farm products planted in upland, such as corns, sweet potatoes, cabbages, etc. are harmed easily, a rate reaches up to 76.9% of whole losses. 92.4% (n=187) of interviewees, who are mostly seniors, cultivate small crop fields smaller than 1 ha. Crop damage would be started from June to late November, time differences are happened due to latitude, climate condition, and crop differences of National Parks. Dusting animal repellents are easier and widespread methods to prevent animal foraging to crop fields and installing noisy makers using gun powder and setting up scarecrows are traditional methods for repelling animals. Nevertheless, effects of these self-defence are turned out to be useful soon after labors done only. Since legal compensation for crop damages by wildlife are not prepared systematically so far, crop loss are rarely reported to local government by most farmers. Systematic and objective methods for quantifying of crop loss by wildlife and population managements system should be offered urgently to well-managed animals habitat and residents' living inside National Parks.

Baekdudaegan, the largest mountain range in eastern Asia, is a biodiversity hotspot in Korea that may have served as a glacial refugium. This study presents the flora of vascular plants on Deok-chi upto the Yuk-sim-nyeong area of the Baekdudaegan conservation area. The survey area was divided into four subareas and fieldwork was conducted for a total of twelve days in 2015. Voucher specimens were collected during the survey and were deposited at Daejeon University. A list of vascular plants was prepared based on the voucher specimens. The results of the survey showed that a total of 441 taxa, consisting of 100 families, 265 genera, 398 species, 9 subspecies, 32 varieties, and 2 forms, were found in the survey area. There was one endangered species, Aconitum coreanum, in the Bonghwasan Mt. area. Sixteen endemic taxa, 74 floristic regional indicator plants, as designated by the Ministry of the Environment, and eleven naturalized plants were distributed. The results of this study can serve as basic information to establish conservation and management plans for the Baekdudaegan conservation area.
For the ecosystem conservation and the effective management of naturalized plant species on 261 uninhabited islands distributed in southern and western sea in Korea, we tested the interrelationship between the pattern of distribution and dispersal of the naturalized plant species and the factors of geographical environment of uninhabited islands such as island area, distance from mainland, latitude, longitude, human impacts and habitat diversity. Out of 261 uninhabited islands surveyed, 106 species of the naturalized plants occurred on 229 (87.7%) islands. The naturalized plant species per island averaged 4.6 (SD=4.07) species, and plant species number were higher in southern group (87 species) than in western group (64 species) of islands. Plant species occurred on more than 100 islands were three species : Rumex crispus L. (153 islands), Erigeron annuus Pers. (130 islands), and Conyza canadensis (L.) Cronquist (121 islands), the highest grade '5' of 'degree of naturalization'. The occurrence frequency of 106 naturalized plant species was significantly correlated with island area, distance to mainland, strength of human impacts, and latitude and longitude. Correlation coefficient (r=-0.330) between occurrence frequency and distance from mainland was higher than between occurrence frequency and island area (r=-0.182). The result of path analysis confirmed that plant species number was significantly affected by island area p=0.336) and distance from mainland (p=-0.490), but in this analysis the effect of human impacts on plant species number was very weak (p=0.003). On the basis of these results, strategies on the conservation of ecosystem and the management of naturalized plant species in the uninhabited islands of Korea were discussed.
Riverine wetlands are an important element of the river ecosystem and account for approximately 38% of the inland wetlands surveyed so far. The Shincheon Wetland located in Mangyeong River is also a channel wetland as the flow rate is slowed by the constructed weirs, leading to sediment accumulation. To identify the conservation value and ecological characteristics of Shincheon Wetland, its vegetation and plant diversity were identified using a phytosociological method, and a total of 45 vegetation-related datasets were collected. Overall, 24 plant communities, comprising a total of 153 taxa (49 families, 117 genera, 146 species, 2 subspecies, 5 varieties) were identified. The plant with the highest appearance rate in the communities was Humulus japonicus Siebold & Zucc. In addition, annual herb species, including Rumex crispus L., Bromusjaponicus Thunb., Erigeron annuus (L.) Pers., and Artemisia indica Willd. were frequently observed to be growing in the secondary grassland. Naturalized plants were surveyed in the 38 taxa; the urbanization index was 10.3% and the naturalized index was 24.8%. Plant communities were largely classified into submerged vegetation, floating and floating-leaved vegetation, annual and biennial vegetation, perennial herb vegetation, and woody vegetation. The distribution of plant communities reflecting various habitats, including the lentic and lotic zone maintaining a constant water depth, littoral zone experiencing intermittent water level fluctuations, and dry floodplain environment was also confirmed. Overall, plant community development plays an important role in the habitat for wild animals; therefore, it is expected to positively impact biodiversity enhancement.
