The relationships between the distribution of 132 species, 61 genera evergreen broad-leaved trees and shrubs(EBTS) and climatic factors have discussed. The distributional patterns of EBTS were categorized into seven groups on the basis of the number of distributing sites, distributional attitudes and latitudes. Out of seven group. the cold-tolerant EBTS were common at groups I and II, along tilth Empetrum nigrum var. japonicum. Diapensia lapponics subsp. obovata of group III. However, the warmth-tolerant EBTS were rich at groups III. IV V, and VI The lower distributional limits of cold-tolerant EBTS in the groups I and UU decreased as one moves toward south. The upper distributional limit of warmth-tolerant EBTS in the groups III, IV and V decreased with increasing latitude. However. no clear distributional tendency is noticed in the groups VI and VII. The range of warmth-tolerant EBTS appear to show close relationship with the January mean temperature -4 $\^{C}$ and January mean minimum temperature -9$\^{C}$ than others. On the other hand, that of the cold-tolerant EBTS seem to respond well to the August mean temperature 19$\^{C}$ and August mean maximum temperature 26$\^{C}$ than others.
This paper contains the results obtained by ecological investigation of flora in Sogumoon Island of the southern coast in Korea. Fifty varieties, 455 species, 322 genera and 104 family of Tracheophyta were recorded island showed a plant community predcominated by Pinus thunbergii grwon in miggle with Castanopsis cuspidata var. sieboldii, Machilus thunbergii, Litsea japonica, Albizzia julibrissin, Carpinus coreana, Carpinus laxiflora, Mallotus japonica and Clerodendron trichotomum. Sixtythree species in Sogumoon Island and 64 species in Pogil Island of evergreen broad-leaved trees were recorded by this investitgations. The plant resources of this island were 203 species. The evergreen broad-leaved trees of this island wre valuable for landscaping material plants and the evergreenherbs were valuable for foliage-plants resources. The flora breaking in this island was due to cuttinf for fuel and grazing cattle and goats. Therefore Machilus thunbergii, Ardisia japonica, Ficus miponica, Kadsura japonica, Daphniphyllum macropodum, etc. should be preserved. Autochonous flora of Buxus microphyllac, Fius erecta, Machilus thunbergii, Kadsura japonica, Ardisia japonica, Mitchella undulata, etc. should be preserved.
This research was conducted for understanding the evergreen forest community structure of the Bijin Island. The island was worth of vegetational value because of the representative warm temperate species such as Castanopsis cuspidata was distribute there. According to the results of community classification by TWINSPAN and DCA, the Bijin Island evergreen forest were classified by 9 communities, such as C. cuspidata, C. cuspidata-Pinus thunbergii, Neolitsea sericea-Camellia japonica, Platycarya strobilacea, Quercus serrata-Decidus broad-leaved, Alnus firma, P. thunbergii. Due to the C. cuspidata, N. sericea, Ca. japonica etc. were still dominated at canopy and under-canopy layer, so the evergreen forest will be sustain current conditions for a while if there is no artificial disturbances that were caused by human. Pl. strobilacea community will be expected to replace N. sericea and also Q. serrata-Decidus broad-leaved community will be changing caused by mutual competition. Normally, in the way of the succession process of the warm temperate forest, P. thunbergii will be expect via deciduous broad-leaved to evergreen forest such as Machilus thunbergii, C. cuspidata var. sieboldii, and N. sericea. In case of species diversity index, P. thunbergii comm.(1.2739), Q. serrata-Decidus broad-leaved comm.(1.2325), Decidus broad-leaved comm.(1.1807), and A. firma comm.(1.0854) are relatively high, while C. cuspidata and N. sericea-Ca. japonica that was dominated by evergreen species at canopy layer and P. thunbergii that was damaged by fire are relatively low(0.7380~0.8416). Soil pH was 4.72~6.33, electric conductance was 0.035~0.128dS/m, and content of organic matter was 3.4~17.4%.
The distribution of three typical warm-temperate evergreen trees, Quercus acuta Thunb., Neolitsea sericea (Blume) Koidz., and Machilus thunbergii Siebold & Zucc., were surveyed on the Korean Peninsula based on field and specimen investigations and the distribution maps of the three species were prepared. The distribution patterns of the species correspond to the south coast floristic region in Korea, which includes the distributional areas of Jeju-do, Isl. Ulleung, the southern coastal areas, and the areas up to the islands around Incheon in the Yellow Sea. The northernmost limit of the distribution of Quercus acuta is Isl. Nap of Incheon in the west, and a new distribution was found at Isl. Ulleung in the East Sea; additionally, the limit of Neolitsea sericea is the Deojoek archipelago of Incheon. The northernmost limit of Machilus thunbergii is Isl. Daecheong of Incheon, which is the highest latitude among those of the three species. This distribution survey of evergreen broad-leaved trees in Korea can be used as basic data for the delimitation of floristic regions and as a bio-indicator of climatic change.

This study investigated the feasibility of wintering evergreen broad-leaf trees in the Incheon coastal area through a climate analysis. The coldest monthly mean air temperature ranged from $-2.9^{\circ}C{\sim}-1.6^{\circ}C$. The warmth index of the coastal area of Incheon ranged from $98.89^{\circ}C{\cdot}month-109.03^{\circ}C{\cdot}month$, while the minimum air temperature year ranged from $-13.9^{\circ}C{\sim}-3.6^{\circ}C$. This proved that the Incheon coastal area was not suitable for evergreen broad-leaf trees to grow as the warmth index ranges from $101.0^{\circ}C{\cdot}month{\sim}117.0^{\circ}C{\cdot}month$, and the temperature year-round is $-9.2^{\circ}C$ or higher. This suggests the coastal areas of Incheon is not suitable for the growth of evergreen broad-leaf trees, however some evergreen broad-leaf trees lived in some parts of the area. Wind speed reduction and temperature effect simulations were done using Landschaftsanalyse mit GIS program. As a result of the simulations of wind speed reduction and temperature effects affecting the evergreen broad-leaf trees, it was discovered that a coastal wind velocity of 8.6m/sec was alleviated to be 5m/sec~7m/sec when the wind reached the areas where evergreen broad-leaf trees were present. It was also discovered that species that grew in contact with buildings benefited from a temperature increase of $1.1^{\circ}C{\sim}3.4^{\circ}C$ due to the radiant heat released by the building. Simulation results show that the weather factors affecting the winter growth damages of evergreen broad-leaved trees were wind speed reduction and local warming due to buildings. The wind speed reduction by shielding and local warming effects by buildings have enabled the wintering of evergreen broad-leaved trees. Also, evergreen broad-leaved trees growing in the coastal area of Incheon could be judged to be gradually adapting to low temperatures in winter. This study reached the conclusion that the blockage of wind, and the proximity of buildings, are required for successfully wintering evergreen broad-leaf trees in the coastal area of Incheon.
To investigate the forest community structure ranging from 200 meters to 1,350 meters above sea level at Donnaeko valley of Mt. Hallasan in 2006, 15 plots were surveyed. According to the classification analysis by TWINSPAN, the plant communities were divided into five groups of Castanopsis sieboidii community, Castanopsis sieboldii - Quercus acuta community, mixed forest, Carpinus laxiflora - Quercus serrata community and deciduous broad-leaved forest. 22 species of evergreen broad-leaved trees such as Castanopsis sieboldii, Quercus acuta, Distylium racemosum, Camellia japonica, Eurya japonica, Ligustrum lucidum, Ilex crenata, Daphnipyllum macropodum, etc. were growing at Donnaeko valley. According to the attitudinal distribution of evergreen broad-leaved trees, Castanopsis sieboidii was a dominant species distributed from 200 meters to 350 meters above sea level, Castanopsis sieboldii and Quercus acuta were dominant species distributed from 400 meters to 600 meters above sea level and Quercus acuta was a dominant species distributed from 660 meters to 700 meters above sea level. Ilex crenata, Daphniphyllum macropodum, Elaeagnus glabra were distributed up to 1,350 meters above sea level in Donnaeko.
To investigate distribution status of the evergreen broad-leaves forest in Weolchulsan National Park, 146 plots and surveyed. Thirteen Evergreen broad-leaved trees wear distributed up to four hundred fifty meters(sea level) along valley in the Weolchulsan National Park. Camellia japonica, Eurya japonica and Quercus acuta were distributed as a plant community. Neolitsea sericea, Vaccinium bracteatum, Camellia sinensis, Eleagnus macrophylla, Ligustrum japonicum and Ardisia japonica were distributed as small patch or individual. Trachelospermum asiaticum and Hedera japonica were distributed by discoid, erysipelas shape. Quercus acuta community was appeared as a small patch type in Weolchulsan National Park. Evergreen broad-leaved trees were distributed at subcanopy layer in the Pinus densiflora community, Quercus varabilis community and Quercus acutissima community. Quercus acuta community might be maintained and expanded. Pinus densiflora community and deciduous broad-leaved plant community at which Quercus acuta, were growing in the forest floor will be succeeded to Quercus acuta community.
