  • This study investigates the effects of availability and accessibility on an individual's risk of developing a gambling problem. A total of 24 off-track betting facilities located in 12 districts of Seoul were examined in an effort to identify any association between their presence and citizens' gambling habits. Study participants included 1,490 online recruits residing in Seoul who participated in gambling activities in the 12 months prior to the study. To examine the differences in addiction rates and gambling frequency, a survey of demographics, gambling addictions, and gambling frequency divided the participants into two groups: those who resided in a district where off-track betting facilities were available, and those who resided elsewhere. Analysis results indicate that gambling frequency and addiction rates were significantly higher among participants residing in a district where off-track betting terminals are available. Additional analysis was performed with participants who mainly gambled on horse racing, with results similar to the previous analysis-significantly higher rates of gambling addiction and frequency were observed among participants residing in close proximity to off-track betting facilities.

In-depth interviews and theme analysis with six clients who showed inconsistent personality type were conducted. The significance of this research lies in its provision of various points for improving career counselling.

Second, with respect to the relationship between socially prescribed perfectionism and depression, intolerance of uncertainty was set as the primary mediator variable and the rumination response style were set as the secondary mediator variables. The results shown to have a significant mediating effects. However this mediating effect was not significant when, in order to verify the mediating effect, we set the secondary mediator variable as the reflective response style. These results suggest that to prevent depression that manifests as socially prescribed perfectionism, it may be effective to intervene with a focus on the intolerance of uncertainty and the rumination response style. • Understanding the genetic background of hearing loss is important since almost 50% of the cases of profound hearing loss are caused by genetic factors. Until now, more than 150 causative genes have been identified. In this review, classification of genetic hearing loss (syndromic versus non-syndromic, recessive versus dominant, X-linked and mitochondrial), pitfalls in elucidating causative genes, anatomy of the inner ear, introduction of the most common syndromic hearing loss, introduction of the most common non-syndromic hearing loss-causing genes, mitochondrial and multifactorial hearing losses were discussed. Moreover, clinical approaches to the patients with hereditary hearing loss and genetic counseling were also explained briefly. Finally, future directions of the hereditary hearing loss research in Korean population were presented.

  • The aim of this study was to identify the effective factors for improving the professionalism of the social welfare public organization and to suggest the implications for the relationship between public social welfare and educational alternatives. For the analysis, 637 government officials who worked in the social welfare department of local governments in Kangwon province were surveyed. Based on previous studies on the organizational effectiveness, this study examined differences in the perceptions of job stress, organizational satisfaction, organizational commitment, and social support by characteristics (gender, major, and serial), followed by relationship educational alternatives (job training, healing camp, psychological counseling). The differences according to gender were significant only in the creativity of the work and the self-esteem of the institution. Through the confirmation of recognition difference according to whether they majored or not, it was confirmed that expertise of the major in social welfare was necessary for job performance ability and suggested the urgency of the appointment of a major. The differences among the serials showed that administrative work is more difficult than social welfare work in terms of professionalism and expertise. Finally, based on the results of the causal relationships with educational alternatives, this paper introduces and operates systematic educational programs, such as personal psychological counseling and organizational healing camp management, as well as the need for active and proactive responses to changes in social welfare administration organizations.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating effects of rejection sensitivity in pathological narcissism and dating violence, and to verify whether there is a gender difference in each variable, further examining the gender difference in the mediating pathways. The participants of this study were 381 men and women in 20s living across the country, and online self-report surveys was conducted regarding their experiences of pathological narcissism, rejection sensitivity, and four types of dating violence. As a result of verifying gender differences, it was found that women had a higher vulnerability to narcissism, rejection sensitivity and committed more psychological violence, sexual violence, and controlling behavior than men. As a result of the mediation analysis, it was found that rejection sensitivity partial mediated the effect of pathological narcissism on psychological violence and control behavior, but it showed a complete mediation effect on sexual violence. And there was no mediating effect of rejection sensitivity between pathological narcissism and physical violence. As a result of measuring the moderating effect of gender in this mediating pathways, the moderated mediating effect of gender was verified in the effect of naricissistic grandiosity and narcissistic vulnerability on control behavior through rejection sensitivity. These results show that pathological narcissism promotes psychological and sexual violence in both men and women, and rejection sensitivity acts as a mediator in this process. In addition, the effect of pathological narcissism on the control behaviors through rejection sensitivity was significantly higher in women than in men, indicating that there are gender differences in the mediated pathways. Finally, the implications and limitations of this study and suggestions for follow-up studies were discussed.

  • Congenital malformation is observed in about 2-5% of newborns and is a leading cause of infant mortality. The prognosis of malformation is dictated mainly by proper treatment followed by correct diagnosis at an early age. In practice, etiological consideration and classification of a malformation is critical for diagnosis. Malformations can be classified as belonged to minor or major anomaly. It is clinically important to clarify the pathogenesis of the anomalies among malformation, deformation, disruption, and dysruption. Genetic counseling aids this process by helping patients or family members understand and the nature of the malformation and risk assessment.
