Plasma-sprayed Cr$_2$O$_3$-based coatings containing MoO$_3$were studied to gain a better understanding of the influence of MoO$_3$composition in the coatings on their tribological behaviour. A reciprocal type tribo-tester was employed to examine friction and wear behavior of the specimens at room temperature. The physical characteristics of worn surfaces were investigated by scanning electron microscopy and chemical composition of the coating surfaces was analyzed using a X-ray photoelectron spectrometer. The results showed that friction coefficient of the MoO$_3$-added coatings were lower than those without MoO$_3$addition. However pure Cr$_2$O$_3$coating showed the lowest wear loss at the self-mated test. The larger protecting layers were observed at the worn surface of plasma spray coated specimens with MoO$_3$addition. XPS analysis of the protecting layer indicated that MoO$_3$composition was dominantly formed at the surface. MoO$_3$composition in the protecting layer appears to be more favorable in reducing the friction.
Tribological behavior of plasma-sprayed $Cr_2O_3$-based coatings containing $MoO_3$ at 450$^{\circ}C$ was investigated to understand the influence of $MoO_3$. A reciprocal disc-on-plate type tribo-tester was employed to examine fricition and wear behavior of the specimens. The microstructure and phase composition of the coating was characterized with Transmission Electron Microscopy(TEM). The TEM analysis indicated that $MoO_3$ was dispersed into the grain boundary, resulting in the increase of the hardness and density of the coating. Worn surfaces were investigated by scanning electron microscopy and chemistry of the worn surfaces was analyzed using a X-ray Photoelectron Spectrometer(XPS). The results showed that the friction coefficient of the $MoO_3$-added coatings was lower than that without $MoO_3$ addition. The larger protecting layers were observed at the worn surface of plasma spray coated specimens with $MoO_3$ composition in the protecting layer appears to be more favorable in reducing the friction.

Molybdenite concentrate ($MoS_2$) is the major mineral for the molybdenum industry, of which the industrial processing is first converted to technical grade molybdenum trioxide ($MoO_3$) by its oxidative roasting and purification, used as a raw material for manufacturing several molybdenum compounds. In the present work, detailed experimental results for the oxidative roasting of low grade Mongolian molybdenite concentrate are presented. The experiments were carried out in the temperature range of 793 to 823 K under an oxygen partial pressure range of 0.08 atm to 0.21 atm by using a thermogravimetric analysis technique. The molybdenite concentrate was an average particle size of $67\;{\mu}m$. In the oxidative roasting of low grade Mongolian molybdenite concentrate, more than 95% of molybdenite was converted to molybdenum trioxide in 60 min. at 828 K. The lander equation was found to be useful in describing the rates of the oxidative roasting and the reaction order with respect to oxygen concentration in a gaseous mixture with nitrogen was 0.11 order.
The hydrogen reduction behavior of molybdenum oxides was studied using a horizontal-tube reactor. Reduction was carried out in two stages: MoO3 → MoO2 and MoO2 → Mo. In the first stage, a mixed gas composed of 30 vol% H2 and 70 vol% Ar was selected for the MoO3 reduction because of its highly exothermic reaction. The temperature ranged from 550 to 600 ℃, and the residence time ranged from 30 to 150 min. In the second step, pure H2 gas was used for the MoO2 reduction, and the temperature and residence time ranges were 700-750 ℃ and 30-150 min, respectively. The hydrogen reduction behavior of molybdenum oxides was found to be somewhat different between the two stages. For the first stage, a temperature dependence of the reaction rate was observed, and the best curve fittings were obtained with a surface reaction control mechanism, despite the presence of intermediate oxides under the conditions of this study. Based on this mechanism, the activation energy and pre-exponential were calculated as 85.0 kJ/mol and 9.18 × 107, respectively. In addition, the pore size within a particle increases with the temperature and residence time. In the second stage, a temperature dependence of the reaction rate was also observed; however, the surface reaction control mechanism fit only the early part, which can be ascribed to the degradation of the oxide crystals by a volume change as the MoO2 → Mo phase transformation proceeded in the later part.

Molybdenum is widely used in many materials; thus, its recovery from ores and secondary resources has attracted considerable attention. In this study, the leaching of molybdenite ore using hydrochloric acid containing sodium chlorate as an oxidizing agent was studied. The effects of several variables, such as the concentrations of HCl and NaClO3, reaction temperature and time, and pulp density, on the leaching of the ore were investigated. Under strong acidic and oxidizing conditions, the sulfide in the ore was dissolved as a sulfate ion, which formed gypsum with Ca(II), leading to a decrease in the leaching percentage of Mo(VI) from the ore. The leaching percentage of molybdenum was greater than 90%, while those of iron, calcium, and silicon were 38, 29, and 67%, respectively, under the optimum conditions: 2.0 M HCl, 0.5 M NaClO3, pulp density of 5 g/L, temperature of 90 ℃, and treatment time of 60 min.

Molybdenum phosphate(P/Mo = 0.6) has been synthesized with ammonium molybdate and phosphoric acid under aqueous solution. The kinetics of the ammoxidation of methylpyrazine over molybdenum phosphate catalyst was investigated with the variation of reaction temperature and partial pressure of methylpyrazine, oxygen and ammonia, respectively at atmospheric pressure. The catalytic activity was constant for 300hrs operation under our experimental conditions. Under the steady-state condition, the rate equation of methylpyrazine was shown as $-r=kP_{MP}P_{NH3}{^0}P_{O2}{^{\gamma}}({\gamma}=2.2;1.3{\leq}P_{O2}(kPa){\leq}4)$. The apparent activation energy was 29.6kcal/mol below 623K. The main product obtained in the ammoxidation of methylpyrazine is cyanopyrazine whose selectively was kept always over 90% regardless of conversion.
The oxo-nitrosyl complexes (n-Bu4N)2[M4O12Mo(NO)2{RC(NH2)NHO}2{RC(NH)NO}2] (M=Mo, W; R=(CH3)2CH, n-CH3CH2CH2) have been prepared by the reactions of monomeric complex containing {Mo(NO)2}2+ and polyoxometalates with isobutyl- and n-butylamidoxime. The prepared complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, infrared, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and UV-visible spectroscopy. These complexes contain two {M2O5}2+ [M=Mo, W] cores and a central {Mo(NO)2}2+ core. The {Mo(NO)2}2+ unit was the formally cis type and C2v symmetry in geometric structure. The two {M2O5}2+ cores and a central {Mo(NO)2}2+ core were not nearly interacted with electronic localization, which were identified by spectroscopy.
