  • Universities should provide experiential learning in subject and non-course subjects so that students can graduate with job competency related to their major and the experiential learning includes capstone design implemented on campus and field training conducted by companies. In particular, the decrease in industry participation in short-term (4 weeks) and mid-term field training (8 weeks) due to the implementation of standard field training introduced from the second half of 2021 is making it more difficult for students to gain practical experience. To solve this problem, in this paper, we propose an industry-participatory capstone design & field practice linkage model that combines capstone design and professional practice to solve the technical difficulties of companies. Participating students find solutions to corporate difficulties in the capstone design process and produce prototypes for solutions during the field practice period, focusing on the case of the department of electronic engineering at Gyeongbuk Y University. We believe that it is one of the good models of industry-university cooperation education in which universities and industries win-win.

  • The Smart City Living Lab is becoming important as a local innovation platform to develop urban solutions. In January 2018, the 4th industrial innovation committee, which was a direct subordinate from the president, empathized citizens' participation and their roles within the Smart City [Urban Innovation and Future Growth Engine-Creating Smart City Strategy]. This was the starting point of the living lab. The central government and local governments have been promoting various types of living labs to encourage citizens to participate. On the other hand, due to the lack of systematic concepts and theories for practicing and structuring living labs, the practice is not performed well. This study aimed to develop systematic approaches and implementation methods of the public-led Smart City Living Lab. The Full-cycle Smart City living Lab model was designed by integrating smart city living lab work processes, as suggested in the standards of the national land plan, double design diamond framework, which is a type of innovative design methodology, and design thinking process. The entire cycle Smart City living lab model requires four components to practice the living lab, such as framework, module, process, and methodologies. In the future, this model is expected to be incorporated in the Smart City Living Lab.

  • Consumer and property evaluation of wetsuit materials were conducted to obtain useful data for developing competitive products that meet consumer expectations and improving industrial competitiveness. Data were collected through online surveys of 213 domestic consumers who have experienced wearing wetsuit among marine leisure activities. Five types of commercial wet suit materials by brand and four types of commercial wet suit materials with the same quality by thickness were collected. Then, their physical properties, salt water resistance and thermal insulation rate were evaluated and compared. As a result, the most commonly used wetsuit material is 3 to 5 mm thick, and the basic jersey material is bonded on both sides. As a processing for imparting functionality, processing for improving warmth and reducing surface resistance are most frequently used. Consumers often feel uncomfortable when wearing a wetsuit, such as wearing comfort, weight, ease of movement, stretchability, and clothing pressure, which are different from those of casual wear. Also, mechanical strength and warmth were considered to be the most important criteria for selection of wetsuit material for purchase or rental. The mechanical properties of brand A and B were better than those of brand C, D, and E. Resilience and thermal shrinkage were better in brand C, D, and E. On the other hand, there was no significant difference in the physical properties due to the difference in thickness of the material at the same quality. Also, it was found that the thicker the material, the more stable it is in the heat. Brand A and B had superior salt water resistance than brand C, D, and E. In the thermal insulation test, brand A and B showed better insulation characteristics than brand C, D, and E, but the types of bonded fabric and surface finishing of materials were thought to have affected. In comparison of the thickness, the thicker the materials, the better the salt resistance and the thermal insulation.

  • Digital manufacturing (DM) technology helps engineers design products promptly and reliably at low production cost by simulating a manufacturing process and the material behavior of a product in use, based on three-dimensional digital modeling. The computing infrastructure for digital manufacturing, however, is usually expensive and, at present, the number of professional design engineers who can take advantage of this technology to a product design accurately is insufficient, particularly in small and medium manufacturing companies. Considering this, the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) and H University is operating a DM track in the form of Industry-University-Research Institute collaboration to train high-performance-computing-based DM professionals. In this paper, a series of courses to train students to work directly into DM practice in industry after graduation is reported. The operating cases of the DM track for two years since 2013 are presented by focusing on the progress in establishment, lecture and practice contents, evaluation of students, and course quality improvement. Overall, the track management, curriculum management, learning achievement of students have been successful. By expediting more active participation of the students in the track and providing more internship and job offers in the participating companies in addition to collaborative capstone design projects, the track can be expanded by fostering a nationwide training network.

  • Forty Viscosity data of glass bottles fabricated in a glass bottle manufacturing plant for 4 years were calculated using Lakatos model. The relationship between the glass bottle compositions and viscosities at log η of 3, 6.6, 10 and 12.3 Pa·s was analyzed. MgO that was a component of the glass bottle showed the maximum coefficient of variation of 0.89, but it gave a very small change in the viscosity. CaO that was another component of the glass bottle lowered the isokom temperature because it tended to reduce the number of non-bridging oxygen at temperature below a softening point.
