  • When the social cost-benefit analysis is applied for analyzing the public forestry investment, the choice of discount rate to be used in analysis is critical. In this paper, the social discount rate discussed in the public economics was introduced and the social time preference rate as a measure of that was estimated for Korea. The component parameters of the model used are : the elasticity of social marginal utility of consumption and the growth rate of real consumption. The results for the social time preference rate and the elasticity of social marginal utility of consumption are 6.2% and -1.38, respectively, which are plausible and thus can be used as a useful basis in establishing rational resource allocation policies.

  • Cause-Related Marketing is the process of formulating and implementing marketing activities that are characterized by an offer from the firm to contribute a specified amount to a designated cause when customers engage in revenue-providing exchanges that satisfy organizational and individual objectives. Many companies obtain benefits such as increasing sales profits and fulfilling social responsibility activities from Cause-Related Marketing as a strategic marketing activity. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of message of Cause-Related Marketing on consumer attitude, and to examine the moderating effects of ethical consumption propensity, social trust and types of product(utilitarian vs. hedonic) on consumer's product attitude. The research results show that consumers tend to adopt a positive attitude towards those advertisements with Cause-Related Marketing message. In the meanwhile, the ethical consumption propensity and social trust also have moderating effects on Cause-Related Marketing message's influence, but the types of product have no moderating effect. Based on the findings, the theoretical and managerial implication are discussed. In addition, some limitations of this study and future research directions are discussed.

  • A theoretical model of information overload (Jackson and Farzaneh, 2012) with its three influential components (i.e., time, technology, and social networks) was empirically tested in the context of news consumption behavior considered as a communicative outcome. Using a national sample of South Korean adults (N = 1166), data analyses identified perceived information overload and large/diverse social networks positively associated with active and passive news consumption. Findings may imply the existence of individually varying cognitive threshold (i.e., tipping point), if crossed individuals cannot process information any further. News consumers may keep searching and receiving information to verify factuality of news even when they feel overloaded.

This study analyzes the 'Adolescence consumption life' unit in the Home Economics textbook of the 12 type revised curriculum of 2009. As for the analysis method, Romey's content analysis method is used to carry out in-depth analysis of the ESD content elements. The analysis demonstrates the following. First, content elements extracted commonly from the 'Adolescence consumption life' unit are analyzed with the ESD's criteria of analysis (environment, economic and social domain), which led to the composition with the sub content elements following 23 related topics. Secondly, content elements of 12 types of Home Economics textbook's 'Adolescence consumption life' unit used in middle school are analyzed in three domains, which led to social domain (68%), economic domain (58%) and environmental domain (40%) in the order mentioned. This focused on the role of the Adolescent-consumer on the active consumer that is presented in the 2009 revised educational curriculum, and it is possible to see that this is very closely related to the right to organize and to be active in terms of the human safety, consumption culture, social interest and group.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the influence of consumption value on healthy functional food choice. Also, this study explored the role of health motivation, health concern, and food involvement as a moderating variable in the relationship between consumption value and healthy functional food choice. A total of 281 responses were collected using on-site survey (response rate 96.0%) from college students in Daegu, Gyeoungbuk Province. The questionnaire contained questions on consumption value, health motivation, health concern, food involvement, and purchasing intention of healthy functional food. The respondents rated the items using a 5-point scale from 1 (strongly disagree) to 5 (strongly agree). According to the confirmatory factor analysis, item evaluating using factor loading resulted in the retention of 25 consumption value items loading on seven factors, four health motivation items loading one factor, six health concern items loading on one factor, and four food involvement items loading on one factor with an internal consistency. Results of stepwise regression found that social value-I, emotional, functional, epistemic, and conditional values among consumption value determined the purchasing intention of healthy functional food. Results of hierarchical regression showed that health concern had a positive effect on the relationship between social value-I and purchasing intention of healthy functional food.

  • Given the growing changes in media environment and cultural consumption, globally popular contents of Korean Wave(Hallyu) has also been transformed in its forms and genres. Moreover, extant research on Hallyu has focused on any single respective genre, mostly on East-Asian countries, or studied from Korea-centered perspective. This study examined the social capital effect of Korean Wave in users' own counties, especially in non-English European societies. Survey analysis results reveal that both narrative and non-narrative contents in Hallyu had negative impact on social trust and trust toward people of their own country, whereas positive effect on trust toward Koreans. In contrast, K-pop Hallyu showed positive effect on all types of social trust toward their own country and Koreans, as well as on social participation and bridging/bonding social networks.
