Breast Cancer in Marital Context: A Critical Review of the Literature (부부관계 맥락에서 유방암의 심리사회적 영향 - 국내외 논문분석 -)

  • The diagnosis of breast cancer can have a significant impact upon all family members in psychological and practical aspects. The impact of breast cancer may have a particularly strong impact on the spouse and the marital relationship. Breast cancer can alter the couple's emotional balance, finances, division of responsibilities and social activities. However, little empirical evidence exists investigating support-related exchanges between patient and spouse in Korea. Therefore, it is meaningful to address psychosocial effect and change of marital relationship in context of breast cancer. This article reviews 34 studies (1987-2009) on marital relationship in the context of breast cancer. Results indicate that the psychosocial impact of breast cancer on the healthy spouse and patient, spouse's effects on quality of life, adaptation, distress of breast cancer patients, and impact of breast cancer on marital relationship. Several recommendations can be made for oncology health professionals working with families of cancer patients such as the need for longitudinal and comprehensive study

Effect of Emotional Labor, Stress, and Fatigue of Beauty Industry Workers on the Subjective Symptoms of Musculoskeletal Diseases (미용업 종사자의 감정노동, 스트레스, 피로도가 근골격계질환 관련 자각증상에 미치는 영향)

  • 본 연구에서의 미용업 종사자의 감정노동, 직무 및 사회심리적 스트레스, 피로도가 근골격계질환에 미치는 직 간접적인 영향을 평가하기 위하여 시도되었다. 그 결과 미용업 종사자의 근골격계질환 자각증사자는 신체부위 중 어깨의 근골격계질환 관련 자각증상자가 가장 많았으며, 목, 허리, 손목, 팔, 발, 무릎 순으로 나타났다. 미용업 종사자의 감정노동 각 문항별 평가 결과는 '나는 기분이 나쁠 때 고객들에게 표현하지 않도록 최선을 다한다'의 문항이 3.92점으로 가장 높게 나타났으며, 이와 반대로 '표현되는 행동과 실제 감정의 차이 때문에 혼란스러울 때가 있다' 2.61점으로 나타났다. 미용업 종사자의 작업 관련 심리적인 요인이 근골격계질환에 미치는 영향에 대하여 근골격계질환자가 무증상자에 비하여 감정노동과 피로도에 영향을 더 많이 받는다는 것으로 나타났으며, 직무 스트레스가 증가할수록 사회심리적 스트레스는 낮아지지만 피로도가 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 감정노동이 피로도에 미치는 영향에서 직 간접적인 영향이 모두 높은 것으로 나타났으며 직무 스트레스가 피로도를 통해 근골격계질환에 미치는 간접적인 영향이 큰 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구를 통하여 미용 종사자의 작업 관련 물리적 심리적 개선 방안 마련이 요구되면 산업안전보건 분야의 정책적 관리 방안 마련을 제안한다.

The Effects of Social Supports on Psychosocial Well-being of the Unemployed (사회적 지지가 실직자의 심리사회적 안녕감에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • This study investigated the relationship between social support and the well-being among the unemployed. Special attention was given to the empirical tests of the main effect and the stress buffering effect of social support on the psychosocial well-being and the practical implications in developing service strategies for the unemployed. Three-hundred-Sixty-nine(369) unemployed people in Choong-ju City and surrounding areas participated to the study. The results showed that both main and direct effects were partially supported by the data. In exploring the direct effect, social support from the family showed the strongest positive effect on the well-being of the unemployed. In the test of the stress buffering effect, the results showed a marginal buffering role of social support against the negative impacts of stress. Drawn from the results, the needs for further research in investigating the social support theory were suggested and possible implications for developing social work intervention strategies for the unemployed were identified.

The Relationship Between the Parenting Stress and Psychological Well-Being of A Mother Having A Child with Autism (자폐성 장애아동 어머니의 양육스트레스와 심리적 안녕감 관계 연구)

  • This study aims at exploring an effective way for social welfare in order to promote psychological well-being of a mother having a child with autism. To achieve this purpose, this study examined the related factors of parenting stress, family functioning, social support, and redefinition of family affecting psychological well-being of a mother having a child with austin by way of applying the Double ABCX model. A survey was conducted with a sample of 207 mothers having a child with autism in Daegu. Results from the survey are as follows: First, there were significant impacts of parenting stress on social support, family functioning, the redefinition of family on crisis situation, and psychological well-being. Second, family functioning and social support had no significant effect on mothers' psychological well-being, while the redefinition of family on crisis situation had significant influences on the psychological well-being of mothers having a child with autism. Third, it turned out that family functioning, social support, and the redefinition of family on crisis situation played a mediating role between parenting stress and psychological well-being. Based on these results, this study suggests that family functioning should be strengthened for promoting psychological well-being of mothers having a child with autism. We should construct and provide social supports in multilateral aspects and help mothers having a child with autism positively recognize stressful situations and improve their capacities to overcome them as well.

Emotional Labor and Psychosocial Stress Difference of Hairdressers in Beauty Shops Depending on Variables related to Thrid Jobs (미용실 헤어분야 종사자들의 직업관련 변인에 따른 감정노동과 사회심리적 스트레스 차이)

  • This study has attempted to figure out differences between emotional labor and psychosocial stress by occupation-related variables against hairdressing industry workers. For this, a total of 191 hairdressers in Busan were examined using emotional labor scale and psychosocial stress scale. The survey was conducted from July 1 to 30, 2011 using t-test, ANOVA and Scheffe's test. Then, the following results were obtained: First, according to analysis on difference in emotional labor by occupation-related variables, difference was found by monthly income in 'control of emotion' category. In terms of 'emotional dissonance,' difference was observed by job title and monthly income. In 'positive expression of emotions,' difference was detected by monthly income and number of off-days per month. Second, according to analysis on difference in psychosocial stress by occupation-related variables, differences were found by age, job title, education, work experience, monthly income, working hours and number of off-days per month. According to the analysis above, monthly income is related with both emotional labor and psychosocial stress among occupation-related variables.

Analysis of the Influence of Hopelessness, Psychosocial Stress and Depression on Suicide Ideation Among Middle School Students Using the Structural Equation Model (구조방정식모형을 이용한 중학생의 절망감, 사회심리적스트레스 및 우울이 자살생각에 미치는 영향 분석)

  • This study was performed to determine the suicide ideation and its association with hopelessness, psychosocial stress and depression among some middle school students. The survey was administered to 975 middle school students in Gyeongin area during the period, May $1^{st}$ to June $30^{th}$, 2013. Structured self-administered questionnaires were delivered and collected without the respondents' personal information. As a result, concerning the correlation of depression with various factors, the level of suicide ideation was positively correlated with hopelessness, psychosocial stress and depression. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that the factors influencing the suicide ideation included sex distinction, experience of alcohol drinking, hobbies and leisure life, subjective health status, grade, school violence experience, hopelessness, psychosocial stress and depression. An analysis of the covariance structure, hopelessness (BHOP) was more influential on the suicide ideation than psychosocial stress (PWI) and depression (CES-D). The study found that higher hopelessness, severe distress and higher depression tends to increase the suicide ideation.

Analysis of Convergent Influence of Academic Burnout, Anxiety and Psychosocial Stress on Hopelessness among Some Health College Students Using Structural Equation Model (구조방정식 모형을 이용한 일부 보건계열 대학생의 학업소진, 불안 및 사회심리적 스트레스가 무망감에 미치는 융합적인 영향 분석)

  • This study attempted to ascertain convergent influence on hopelessness and its association with academic burnout, anxiety, psychosocial stress and hopelessness among health college students. The subjects of this study were 214 health college students in J region, which were randomly selected. The survey period was from October 1, 2018 to October 31, 2018, and the data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire. Hopelessness was positively correlated with academic burnout, anxiety and psychosocial stress. As a result of the analysis of covariance structure, it was found that the higher academic burnout, the higher anxiety and the higher psychosocial stress tend to increase hopelessness. In conclusion, in order to lower the hopelessness of health college students, efforts to reduce academic burnout, anxiety and psychosocial stress are needed. The results of the analysis are expected to be used for educational counseling and guidance intervention to reduce the hopelessness of health college students. Further research is needed to investigate various additional factors related to the hopelessness of health college students.

Convergent Influence of Subjective Happiness, Job Burnout and Psychosocial Stress on State Anxiety among Hospital Women Administrative Staff (병원여성행정직의 주관적행복감, 직무소진 및 사회심리적 스트레스가 상태불안에 미치는 융복합적인 영향)

  • This study ascertained convergent influence on state anxiety and its association with subjective happiness, job burnout and psychosocial stress among Hospital Women Administrative Staff(HWAS). The survey period was from July 4, 2018 to July 25, 2018. The subjects were 226 HWAS randomly extracted from 24 hospitals in J area. The data were collected using a structured self-administered questionaries. State anxiety was negatively correlated with subjective happiness, and it was positively correlated with job burnout and psychosocial stress. The covariance structure analysis showed that the lower subjective happiness, and the higher job burnout and psychosocial stress tend to increase state anxiety. In conclusion, in order to reduce the state anxiety of HWAS, it is necessary to increase subjective happiness, to reduce job burnout and psychosocial stress. These results are expected to be used for industrial health education and hospital internal customer management to reduce the state anxiety of HWAS. In the future study, it is necessary to investigate the convergent additional factors that affect the state anxiety of HWAS.

Job Satisfaction and Psychosocial Stress among Public Officers; and Their Related Factors (일부 공무원의 사회심리적 스트레스 수준과 직무만족도 및 관련요인)

  • The administrative employees of government were analyzed on their levels of psychosocial stress and job satisfaction to reveal the various factors related to them. The self-administered questionnaires were performed, during the period between May 25th, 2007 and June 5th, to 550 individuals in the service of general administration located in Daejeon City. The Survey items included subjects' socio-denographic and job-related characteristics, health-related behavior pattern, locus of control, sense of self-esteem, psychosocial stresses and degree of job satisfaction. The study results indicate that the level of stress or job satisfaction is so complicatedly influenced by variable factors such as socio-demographic characteristics, job-related characteristics, health-related behaviors, or social psycologic factors like type A behavior pattern, internal locus of control, self-esteem or stress coping. Thus, the effective strategy for stress reduction and increase of job satisfaction among governmental employees requires additional programs.

The Effects of Stress on Salivary Cortisol Level of Some of the Dental Hygienists (일부 치과위생사의 스트레스가 타액 코티졸 농도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to research sociodemographic characteristic, work-concerned characteristic, health behavior, life stress, psychosocial stress, job stress and self-esteem of dental hygienists and to find their effects on cortisol level in saliva. The target of this study is 219 dental hygienists registered in Daegu and Gyeongbuk Dental Hygienists Association as of February 2010. For life stress, there was significant difference depending on working years of current job(p<0.05), self health status and regular meal(p<0.01). For psychosocial stress, there was significant difference depending on age(p<0.05), daily working hours(p<0.01), self health status, sleeping hours, regular meal and hobby and leisure activity(p<0.01). For job stress, there was significant difference depending on academic background (p<0.05), job experience, position, man power appropriateness in department and working years of current job(p<0.05). For cortisol level in saliva, extra working days(p<0.05) and self health status(p<0.05) showed significant difference and job stress and cortisol level in saliva showed the negative correlation(p<0.01). Health behavior gave a significant effect to life stress by path coefficient -36.807(p<0.05) and that to psychosocial stress by path coefficient -5.209(p<0.001). And health behavior also gave a significant effect to self-esteem by path coefficient 0.561(p<0.05). Life stress gave a significant effect to psychosocial stress by 0.012(p<0.05) with self-esteem to psychosocial stress by -2.437(p<0.001) and psychosocial stress to job stress by 0.523(p<0.001). Job stress gave a significant effect to cortisol level in saliva by -0.060 (p<0.05). It was found that the most significant factor that affects cortisol level in saliva was job stress, but showed negative correlation. It can be assumed that chromic job stress cause shortage in cortisol excretion, and caused lower cortisol level in saliva.
