Recently, construction of reinforced concrete tall buildings is widely increased according to the improvement of material quality and design technology. Therefore, differential shortenings of columns due to elastic, creep, and shrinkage have been an important issue. But it has been neglected to predict the Inelastic behavior of RC structures even though those deformations make a serious problem on the partition wall, external cladding, duct, etc. In this paper, analysis system for prediction and compensation of the differential column shortenings considering time-dependent deformations and construction sequence is developed using the objected-oriented technique. Developed analysis system considers the construction sequence, especially time-dependent deformation in early days, and is composed of input module, database module, database store module, analysis module, and analysis result generation module. Graphic user interface(GUI) is supported for user's convenience. After performing the analysis, the output results like deflections and member forces according to the time can be observed in the generation module using the graphic diagram, table, and chart supported by the integrated environment.

Situations where support is provided solely in shaft resistance of drilled shafts are where the base of the drilled hole cannot be cleaned so that it is uncertain that any end bearing support will be developed. Alternatively, where sound bed rock underlies low strength overburden material, it may be possible to achieve the required support in end bearing on the rock only, and assume that no support is developed in the overburden. However, where the drilled shaft is drilled some depth into sound rock, a combination of side wall resistance and end bearing can be assumed. Both theoretical and field studies of the performance of rock socketed drilled shafts show that the major portion of applied load is usually carried in side wall resistance. Normal stress at the rock-concrete interface is induced by two mechanisms. First, application of a compressive load on the top of the pile results in elastic dilation of the concrete, and second, shear displacement at the rough surface of the drilled hole results in mechanical dilation of the interface. If the stiffness of the material surrounding the socket with respect to normal displacement is constant, then the normal stress will increase with increasing applied load, and there will be a corresponding increase in the shear strength. In this study, the numerical analyses are carried out to investigate the behavioral characteristics of side of rock socketed drilled shafts. The cause of non-linear head load-settlement relationship and failure mechanism at side are also investigated properly and the design charts are suggested and verified for the leading to greater efficiency and reliability in the pile design.
In this study, a five-story steel frame was designed in accordance with KBC2005 to evaluate the effects of the beam-column connection on the structural behavior. The connections were designed as fully rigid and semi-rigid. The fiber model was used to describe the moment-curvature relationship of the steel beam and the column, the power model for the moment-rotation angle of the semi-rigid connection and the three-parameter model for the hysteretic behavior of the steel beam, column, and connection. The structure was idealized as separate 2-D frames and as connected 2-D frames. The peak ground accelerations of four earthquake records were modified in a time-history analysis for the levels of the mean return period and for the maximum base-shear force in a pushover analysis. The top story displacement, base-shear force, story drift, demanded ductility ratio for the semi-rigid connection, maximum bending moment of the column, beam, and connection, and distribution of the plastic hinge were examined in the time-history analysis. The frame with the semi-rigid connection yielded a lower base-shear force, less magnitude, and increasing ratio in the bending moment of the column, beam, and connection than the frame with a fully rigid connection. The TSD connection was deemed to have secured the economy and safety of the sample structure that was subjected to seismic excitation for the Korean design level.
In the companion paper (Model Development), an analytical model estimating the available rotation capacity of fully restrained beam-column connections in special steel moment-resisting frames was proposed. In this paper, two limit states were considered as the connection rotation capacity criteria: (i) strength degradation failure when the strength falls below the nominal plastic strength due to the local buckling of the beam's cross-section and (ii) low-cycle fatigue fracture caused by plastic strain accumulation at the buckled flange after only a few cycles of high-amplitude deformation. A series of analyses are conducted using the proposed model with two limit states under monotonic and cyclic loadings. Beam section geometric parameters, such as flange and web slenderness ratios, varied over the practical ranges of H-shapedbeams to observe their effect on the rotation capacity and low-cycle fatigue life of pre-qualified WUF-W connections.

This paper introduces a heave compensation system for offshore crane when it subjected to unexpected disturbances such as ocean waves, tidal currents or winds and their external force. The dynamic model consists of a crane which is considered to behave in the same manner as a rigid body, a hydraulic driven winch, an elastic rope and a payload. To keep the payload from moving upwards and downwards, PD(Proportional-Derivative) control was applied by using linearization. In order to achieve a better performance, the sliding mode control and the nonlinear generalized predictive control algorithm was applied according to the time-delay. As a result, the oscillating amplitude of the payload was reduced by the control algorithm. Considering the time-delay involved in the system to be one second, nonlinear generalized predictive controller with a robust controller was a suitable control algorithm for this heave compensation system because it made the position of te payload reach the desired position with the minimum error. This paper presented a control algorithm using the robust control and its simulation results.

Rock is a very complex and heterogeneous material, containing structural flaws due to geologic generation process. Because of those structural flaws, deformation and failure of rock when subjected to differential compressive stresses is non-linear. To simulate the non-linear behavior of rock, mechanical crack models, that is, sliding and shear crack models have been used in several studies. In those studies, non-linear stress-strain curves and various behaviors of rock including the changes of effective elastic moduli ($E_1$, $E_2$, ${\nu}_1$, ${\nu}_2$, $G_2$) due to crack growth were simulated (Kemeny, 1993; Jeon, 1996, 1998). Most of the studies have mainly focused on the verification of the mechanical crack model with relatively less attempt to apply it to practical purposes such as numerical analysis for underground and/or slope design. In this study, the validity of mechanical crack model was checked out by simulating the non-linear behavior of rock and consequently it was applied to a practical numerical analysis, finite element analysis commonly used.

A velocity profile for flapping flight is optimized to increase the power efficiency of 20g weighted flapping wing micro air vehicle in hover. The experimental optimization of flapping velocity profile is carried out with a real sized flapper, and various velocity profiles are realized by non-circular gear. Kriging with noise is adopted as a meta model of the profile optimization to reflect the data noise by uncertainty. The optimization results confirm that the flapping efficiency (thrust-to-power ratio) is substantially improved (11.3%) through the elastic deformation that carries the angular kinetic energy from previous stroke.

In this study the progressive collapse potential of braced frames were investigated using the nonlinear static and dynamic analyses. All of nine different brace types were considered along with a special moment-resisting frame for comparison. According to the pushdown analysis results, most braced frames designed per current design codes satisfied the design guidelines for progressive collapse initiated by loss of a first story mid-column; however most model structures showed brittle failure mode. This was caused by buckling of columns after compressive braces buckled. Among the braced frames considered, the inverted- V type braced frames showed superior ductile behavior during progressive collapse. The nonlinear dynamic analysis results showed that all the braced frame model structures remained in stable condition after sudden removal of a column, and their deflections were less than that of the moment-resisting frame.
A rapid progress has been made over last decade in the state-of-the-art earthquake structura1 engineering towards a better understanding of both the earthqauke ground motion and structural response. These efforts seek to ensure that there will be no serious injury or loss of life in the event of earthquake, and that structures can be built at minimum cost. The design of structures in general, concrete structures in particular, to resist strong ground input motions is not a simple matter, and analytical models for such structures must be developed from a design perspective that accounts for the complexities of the structural responses. The primary obj ective of earthquake structural engineering research is to ensure the safety of structures by understanding and improving a design methodology. Ideally, this would require the development of an analytical model related to a design methodology that ensures a ductile performance. For the accurate assessment of the adequacy of analytically developed model, experiments conducted to study the inplane inelastic cyclic behavior of structures should verify the analytical approach. The fundamental goal of this paper is to present and demonstrate experimentally verified analytical methods that provide the adequate degree of safety and confidience in the behavior of reinforced concrete structural components. This study further attempts to extend the developed modeling techruque for use by practicing structural engineers for both the analysis and design.Plication of the relaxed diaphragm through left thoracotomy was done and result was excellent as seen on Fig. 5. Cause of eventration of the left hemidiaphragm was due to paralysis of the left phrenic nerve which was tested during thoracotomy.
The lifting and lowering supports method makes up for the weak points in the classical method and provides makes construction economical effect to construction. The application of pre-compression to continuous steel box girder bridges makes it possible to reduce the amount of steel, the height of girders and consequently, the cost consequentlyof the bridges' construction by through the process of concrete filling- up and the lifting-lowering of the inner supports. The lifting and lowering supports method is apt to cause local buckling in the lower flange and web plates by due to the process of the lifting of the inner supports. Therefore iln this study, therefore, the possibility of local buckling could be decreased, in consideration of the lifting force and the buckling strength of stiffened plates, by increasing the number of longitudinal stiffeners and the installation of extended longitudinal stiffeners on the lower flange and the web plates in the range of positive moment.
