Finding the lack of meaningful approaches in teaching multiplication of decimal fractions, this paper tries to show from the standpoints of Dewey, Vergnaud and Brousseau that the cognition of ratio and proportion is essential to the understanding of multiplication of decimal fractions. Based upon such posture, this paper compares the characteristics and approaches to multiplication of decimal fractions in Korean and Japanese textbooks. Finally, this paper suggests ways to develop the concept of multiplication of decimal fractions in Korean textbooks.

It is doubtless that product aesthetics and design are very important keys determining the success and failure in today's market environment in spite of the lack of academic model and positive research results. However, surprisingly the research of such an aesthetic has not been active. Therefore the conceptual frame of product aesthetics should be examined centering around the research of product aesthetes in other to understand consumers'aesthetic requirement and desire in the research of aesthetics of product design and the design process by analyzing that how product aesthetics anon the consumers'response and product selection, what roles the aesthetic factor of product design play in product design and what aesthetic dimension of product design is related to design product should be established.

There has been a recurring call for using visual representations in textbooks to improve the teaching and learning of proportional reasoning. However, the quantity as well as quality of visual representations used in textbooks is still very limited. In this article, we analyzed visual representations presented in a Grade 6 textbook from two perspectives of proportional reasoning, multiple-batches perspective and variable-parts perspective, and discussed the potential of the double number line and the double tape diagram to help develop the idea 'things covary while something stays the same', which is critical to reason proportionally. We also classified situations that require proportional reasoning into five categories and provided ways of using the double number line and the double tape diagram for each category.

하천에서 부유사의 형태로 이송되는 점착성 유사는 입자 표면의 전자기적 점착력의 영향과 하천의 흐름 및 난류에 의하여 지속적인 응집과 파괴의 과정인 응집현상을 겪는다. 이러한 응집현상을 통해 플럭을 형성한 점착성 유사의 크기 및 밀도는 끊임없이 변화하며 침강속도 역시 변화한다. 점착성 유사의 이동을 예측하기 위해서는 유사의 부유에 직접적으로 관계하는 침강속도를 이해하는 것이 중요하며 많은 연구에서 점착성 유사의 농도와 침강속도의 관계를 그래프로 보여주고 있다. 일반적으로 그래프에서 침강속도는 처음에 농도가 증가할수록 증가하는 비례 관계를 보여주다가 농도가 어느 정도를 넘어 더 증가하게 되면 감소하여 반비례하는 모양을 그리고 있다. 또한 연구들은 농도와 침강속도 두 관계가 분명한 멱함수법칙(Power Law)을 가진다고 언급하고 있다. 그러나 이전의 연구에서는 그래프가 보여주는 두 관계의 분석이나 메커니즘에 대해 중점을 두고 논의된 바가 없다. 본 연구는 점착성 유사의 응집현상과 이동을 모의하는 1차원 연직 수치모형으로 수치 실험을 실시하고, 그 결과를 바탕으로 농도와 침강속도가 갖는 관계를 면밀히 분석한다. 플럭의 크기 및 농도는 유사의 부유를 결정하는 침강속도와 매우 밀접한 관련이 있는 특징이며 특히 플럭의 크기는 침강속도를 결정한다. 즉 플럭의 크기와 농도가 갖는 관계가 침강속도와 농도가 갖는 관계에 크게 관여할 것으로 예측된다. 앞서 언급한 연구들의 그래프에서 비례 관계를 갖는 구간은 일반적으로 수면과 가까우며 농도와 크기가 비례하는 경향을 보이며 반비례하는 구간은 농도가 크고 난류가 강한 하상부근으로 두 관계가 반비례하는 경향이 밝혀진 연구가 있다. 점착성 유사의 농도 및 플럭의 크기가 이러한 경향을 띠는 것은 하상부근에서는 난류 전단과 그에 따른 플럭의 파괴와 응집의 결과로 나타나는 응집현상과 관련이 있으며 이러한 결과들을 바탕으로 점착성 유사의 침강속도와 농도가 가지는 관계를 분석한다.

터널의 초기 변형결과를 역해석에 적용하기 위하여 초기 값들과 최종변위의 상관관계를 연구하였다 Panet의 지수함수와 분수함수는 경암 터널의 내공변위 예측에 잘 맞았다. ID지점의 초기 계측변위는 선형적으로 적합시킬 수 있으나 계측 전 변형의 추정식으로는 부적합하였다. 초기 계측 결과들과 최종 변형결과는 선형적인 비례관계를 보였으며 이로써 초기 계측결과로부터 추정한 최종변형치를 이용한 역해석이 가능함을 보였다.

The aim of this study is to look into the didactical background for teaching proportional reasoning in elementary school mathematics and offer suggestions to improve teaching proportional reasoning in the future. In order to attain these purposes, this study extracted and examined key ideas with respect to the didactical background on teaching proportional reasoning through a theoretical consideration regarding various studies on proportional reasoning. Based on such examination, this study compared and analyzed textbooks used in the United States, the United Kingdom, and South Korea. In the light of such theoretical consideration and analytical results, this study provided suggestions for improving teaching proportional reasoning in elementary schools in Korea as follows: giving much weight on proportional reasoning, emphasizing multiplicative comparison and discerning between additive comparison and multiplicative comparison, underlining the ratio concept as an equivalent relation, balancing between comparisons tasks and missing value tasks inclusive of quantitative and qualitative, algebraic and geometrical aspects, emphasizing informal strategies of students before teaching cross-product method, and utilizing informal and pre-formal models actively.

The purpose of this paper is to analyse the essence of proportional reasoning and to analyse the contents of the textbooks according to the mathematics curriculum revised in 2007, and to seek the direction for developing the proportional reasoning in the elementary school mathematics focused the task variables. As a result of analysis, it is found out that proportional reasoning is one form of qualitative and quantitative reasoning which is related to ratio, rate, proportion and involves a sense of covariation, multiple comparison. Mathematics textbooks according to the mathematics curriculum revised in 2007 are mainly examined by the characteristics of the proportional reasoning. It is found out that some tasks related the proportional reasoning were decreased and deleted and were numerically and algorithmically approached. It should be recognized that mechanical methods, such as the cross-product algorithm, for solving proportions do not develop proportional reasoning and should be required to provide tasks in a wide range of context including visual models.

Proportional hazards model has been widely used for analyzing survival data. This article reviews some well-known goodness-of-fit tests for proportional hazards model. Simulation studies also provide some insights into the properties of these test statistics across several types of survival distributions and degerees of censorship.

This experiment was conducted to investigate the differences of the in vitro inhibitory effect of various organephobphorua insecticides on the chlinesterase from rice stem borer and those of the toxicity of them against the insect, with special references to the relationship between the cholinesterase inhibition and the toxicity. The results obtained were summarized as follows: Phosphate compounds shelved stronger inhibitory effect on the cholinesterase than thhiophosphate compounds, but was not stronger in toxicity than the latter. Diethoxy compounds were not always stronger than dimethoxy in cholinesterase inhibition and the toxicity of organophosphorus insecticides. The organophosphorus insecticides that inhibited strongly the cholinesterase were not always stronger in the toxicity.

The Eudoxean theory of Proportion is correlated with 'Dedekind cut' with which Dedekind defined the real number system in modern usage. Dedekind established a firm foundation for the real number system by retracing some of Eudoxus' steps of over two thousand years earlier. Thus it should be quite worthy that we separate Greek inheritance from the definition of Dedekind, However, there is a fundamental difference between Eudoxean theory of proportion and Dedekind cut. Basically, it seems impossible for Greeks to distinguish between the distinction between number and magnitude. In this paper, we will consider how the Eudoxean theory of proportion was related to Dedekind cut introduced to prove the Dedekind's real number completion and how it influenced Dedekind cut by looking at the relation between Eudoxos's explication of the notion of ratio and Dedekind's well-known construction of the real numbers.
