Effects of Risk Characteristic and Risk Perception on Risk Severity of Natural Disaster (자연재해에 대한 위험특성과 위험인식이 위험심각성에 미치는 효과)

  • This study was to examine the effects of risk characteristic and risk perception on risk severity of natural disaster. The findings showed that the risk severity of natural disaster were classified into geographical disaster, storm and flood damage, drought damage. Typhoon among storm and flood damage showed high scores on risk severity of natural disaster. Moreover participants showed high scores on unfamiliar, undiscoverable, and unknown by scientific knowledge among risk characteristic of natural disaster. Second, risk characteristic was significantly correlated to risk perception. Third, risk characteristic influenced positively on risk severity of natural disaster. Especially, risk characteristic had great effect on storm and flood damage among natural disaster. Fourth, risk perception influenced positively on risk severity of natural disaster. Especially, risk perception had great effect on storm and flood damage among natural disaster.

Analysis of Mutual Understanding about Dangerous Driving Behaviors between Male and Female Drivers by Co-orientation Model (위험운전행동에 대한 운전자 성별 간 상호이해도 분석)

  • This study aims to compare the mutual perception gap on dangerous driving behavior between male and female drivers in multiple aspects, analyze them, and identify factors that trigger this different perception. To understand the mutual perception gap on dangerous driving behavior, DBQ(Driving Behavior Questionnaire) was applied as a rating scale. By applying results into the Co-oreintation model, this study compared the mutual perception gap between male drivers and female drivers and analyze results. In addition, factors that generate the perception gap between both genders were drawn by analyzing factors. This study suggested that objective consistency identified the perception gap that driving behaviors of others were more dangerous between two genders. In addition, subjective consistency was different as both genders assumed that the counterpart's driving behavior takes more risks than their own actual driving behaviors. In regard to the accuracy, men were aware that female driving behaviors are more dangerous than their behaviors. However, female driving behavior assumed by women was consistent with male perception in all factors, which indicated that women perceive men precisely. In addition, results were compared and analyzed in both perspectives of male drivers and female drivers by combining predictive models. Based on these results, both genders perceived that counterpart's driving behavior is more dangerous among both genders.

Comparison of Risk Factors for Men and Women According to Severity Classification in Patients with Coronary Artery Disease (관상동맥질환 중증도 분류에 따른 성별 위험요인 비교)

  • The aim of this retrospective study was to compare risk factors between men and women through secondary data of nursing information and medical records according to the severity classification in patients of 340 men and 221 women with coronary artery disease(CAD) who were admitted for the first time at a general hospital and underwent first coronary artery angiography. Consequently, men presented with risk factors such as age(p=.004), total cholesterol(p=.040), triglycerides(p=.049), HbA1c(p<.001), smoking(p<.001), alcohol consumption(p=.002) and comorbidities(p=.036) that showed statistically significant differences. Among women, age(p=.002) and comorbidities (p=.018) were the only factors that showed significant differences. Significant risk factors influencing the classification of CAD severity in men were total cholesterol (OR 0.97, 95% CI 0.96-1.00, p=.014) in 1VD, alcohol consumption (OR 52.47, 95% CI 2.99-91.95, p=.007)in 2VD, and total cholesterol in the 3VD(OR 0.98, 95% CI 0.95-0.98, p=.026). A significant risk factor affecting the classification of CAD severity in women was comorbidity (OR 0.30, 95% CI 0.11-0.82, p=.020) in the 3VD. This study identified the importance of nursing care for male CAD patients, such as smoking cessation and quitting drinking, blood sugar control, cholesterol, and accompanying disease management, and provided evidence of individually tailored nursing care.

  • Building above-ground membrane LNG storage tanks have been recently actively reviewed because they have advantages in ease of large capacity, environmental friendliness, and low possibility of gas leakage of the inner tank (slow increase of leakage speed). In this paper, the safety of membrane LNG storage tanks was ensured through comparative risk assessment of full-containment LNG storage tanks and membrane LNG storage tanks by using Fault Tree Analysis (FTA). Risk assessment results showed that both types of tanks have very similar level of risk except for the membrane storage tanks without additional safety equipments (early model).

  • This study presents risk ranking by accident types at intersections, crosswalk and tunnel sections. An ordered logit model was used to estimate the accident severity of traffic accidents based on 58,868 accident records that have occurred on the Seoul and Gyeonggi-do over the period 2014-2017. The factors affecting the injury severity were identified by the estimated model first, and risk ranking was proposed according to conditions of accident occurrence using relative ratio analysis later. The analysis results showed that the injury severity dramatically depends on the location and time of the accident. Furthermore, there are severe injury cases in terms of the injury severity despite the small number of occurrence of traffic accident, or there are severe injury cases in terms of the injury severity despite the high frequency of occurrence of traffic accident.

Optimal Portfolio Selection in a Downside Risk Framework (하방위험을 이용한 위험자산의 최적배분)

  • In this paper, we examine a portfolio selection model in which a safety-first investor maximizes expected return subject to a downside risk constraint. We use the Value-at-Risk as the downside risk measure. We exploit the fact that returns are fat-tailed, and use a semi-parametric method suggested by Jansen, Koedijk and de Vries(2000). We find a more realistic asset allocation than the one suggested by the literature based on the traditional mean-variance framework. For the robustness check, we provide empirical analyses using empirical quantiles. The results highlight that for optimal portfolio selection involving downside risks that are far in the tails of the distribution, our mean-VaR model with a fat-tailed distribution is superior.

  • Cause-specific hazard model (Prentice et al., 1978) and subdistribution hazard model (Fine and Gray, 1999) are mostly used for the right censored survival data with competing risks. Some other models for survival data with competing risks have been subsequently introduced; however, those models have not been popularly used because the models cannot provide reliable statistical estimation methods or those are overly difficult to compute. We introduce simple and reliable competing risk regression models which have been recently proposed as well as compare their methodologies. We show how to use SAS and R for the data with competing risks. In addition, we analyze survival data with two competing risks using five different models.

복합금융그룹의 부실위험

  • 본 연구에서는 복합금융그룹의 부실위험을 그룹전체기반 측도로 측정하는 방법론을 비교하고 국내 복합금융그룹의 자료를 이용하여 실증분석한다. Joint Forum(2001a) 방법은 연결기준을 사용하여 그룹내 자본의 중복요소들을 상계한 후 필요자본 대비 자기자본비율을 구한다. 신BIS 규제자본 방법은 Vasicek(1987)의 점근적 단일위험 모형을 가정하여 자산의 전체기반 위험을 측정하고 연결기준을 사용하여 자본의 중복계상을 배제하여 측정한다. 개별 경제적 자본 방법은 개별 경제적 위험을 수준별로 합산하여 전체기반 경제적 자본을 빌딩블록 방식으로 합산한다. 경제적 자본 방법은 위험 측정시 겪게 되는 극단적 손실 문제와 결합분포의 비대칭성을 반영할 수 있는 방법을 측정시 포함시킬 수 있다. 국내 복합금융그룹의 자료를 이용하여 실증분석을 한 결과, 첫째, 개별 재무지표에서 복합금융그룹 소속회사들의 ROA, ROA 변동성 그리고 총자산 대비 자기자본비율이 우량한 것으로 나타났다. 특히 가장 비중이 큰 은행산업에서 위 개별 재무지표는 복합금융그룹 소속회사에서 우량하게 나타난다. 둘째, 그룹전체기반 위험자본 측도로서 필요자본 대비 자기자본 비율과 연결기준 BIS비율을 살펴본 결과 은행계열 금융그룹의 부실위험이 낮은 것으로 판단된다. 전체적으로 국내 복합금융그룹의 부실위험은 높지 않은 것으로 판단된다. 이상의 결과를 바탕으로 복합금융그룹에 대한 리스크상시감시방안에의 시사점을 살펴보면, 첫째, 복합금융그룹 소속 금융회사에 대한 리스크 평가시 그룹전체기반 부실위험평가를 반영하여 이를 측정할 필요가 있다. 둘째, 권역별로 통일된 리스크감시를 위해 권역별 자기자본규제의 형평성을 제고할 필요가 있다.

Development of the Risk Assessment Model for Railway Level-Crossing Accidents by Using The ETA and FTA (ETA 및 FTA를 이용한 철도 건널목사고 위험도 평가 모델 개발에 대한 연구)

  • In this study, a risk assessment model based on the ETA (Event Tree Analysis) and FTA (Fault Tree Analysis) is developed according to the procedure of hazard analysis and risk assessment in order to estimate the risk quantitatively. The FTA technique is applied to estimate the branch probability (frequency) and the ETA technique is applied to estimate the consequence for each branch path on the ET (Event Tree). A risk assessment model is developed by the combination of those ETA and FTA. In addition, the reliability and the validity of the risk assessment model are verified by comparing the risk estimated through the developed model with the actual equivalent fatality.

The Study on the Regulation of Classification of Hazardous Materials for the Safety of Rail Transportation (철도위험물 수송 안전을 위한 위험물 분류 기준 연구)

  • Many countries are managing the transportation of hazardous materials under the specific provisions especially, as well as use, storage and management, because of their high risks. For the purpose of the revision of rail safety law for the safe transportation of hazardous materials, amount and kind of hazardous materials transported by rail in Korea are analysed and the standards of classification of hazardous materials are compared in domestic and abroad. There are lots of benefits for national rail safety law to implement an international law because our country's geographic location is convenient to connect the continent and to across the border. It is suggested that implementing a classification and test methods of hazardous materials enable to use internationally for the preparation of rail transportation to be increased.
