  • In this paper, sensitivity analysis for the coupled axial and torsional undamped free vibration of ship propulsion shafting is proposed. The purpose of this study is to effectively and optimally design the resonance frequencies of propulsion shafting affecting barred speed range of main engine by modifying the diameters of intermediate and propeller shafts. The presented method is validated by the sensitivity analysis for the natural frequencies of propulsion shafting of two real large merchant ships. In addition, the changes of natural frequency and resonance main engine speed are discussed in case that the diameter is varied within the range regulated by the rule of shipping register.

  • The composite shell element is developed for the solution of undamped forced vibration problem of composite curved panels. The finite element used in the current study is an 4-node enhanced assumed shell element with six degrees of freedom per node. The composite shell element is free of both shear and membrane locking phenomenon by using the enhanced assumed strain(EAS) method. A modification to the first-order shear deformation shell theory is proposed, which results in parabolic thorough-thickness distribution of the transverse shear strains and stresses. It eliminates the need for shear correction factors in the first order theory. Newmark's direct integration technique is used for carrying out the integration of the equation motion, to obtain the repones history. Parametric studies of curved composite panels are carried out for forced vibration analysis by geometrical shapes and by laminated composite; such as fiber orientation, stacking sequence.

  • In this paper, the dynamic characteristic of vibrating system which has translational and rotational degrees of freedom is studied. The moment of inertia of the system is modeled here as the inerter and the equivalent model to the system is proposed using dynamic stiffness method. It is shown that the size of inerter plays a major role to determine the dynamic characteristic of the system. This two degree of freedom system(DOF) is applied as a dynamic vibration absorber(DVA) to the elimination of single peak of main body. The solution for the undamped DVA is presented in analytical form while the damped DVA is designed using fixed point theory. The numerical examples are presented for verifying the methods.

  • The forced vibrations of nondissipative nonlinear two-degree-of-freedom system, subjected to periodic forcing functions, are investigated by use of the method of slowly changing phase and amplitude. The first order differential equations are derived for nonrationally solutions and the coupled nonlinear algebraic equations for stationary solutions. Through investigating the response curves of the system, which are obtained numerically by using Newton-Raphson method, it is found that the resonances can occur at more than the number of degree-of-freedom of the system depending on the relation between the nonlinear spring parameters, which has no counterpart in linear systems.

  • In this Paper, the mechanical behavior of two reかangular plates spot-welded under free vibration is investigated in detail. The focus of the analysis is to evaluate the effect of thickness of reinforced plates with equivalent thickness. The results of this the investigation are compared with detailed finite element analysis end experiments of the plates spot-welded for various parameters, such as aspect ratio, arm ratio, and distance ratio of spot-welding Points. The conclusion obtained are as followed. 1. The effect thickness due to spot-weld is very large, such as 55% in comparison with area ratio of spot-welding joint is just 4.52%. 2 The effect of thickness with respect to the distance ratio is maximized when the distance ratio is 0.4.
