The Mediation Effects of Smartphone Overdependence in the Relationship between University Student's Anxiety and School Life Adjustment

  • The purpose of this study is to find out whether smartphone overdependence serves as a significant mediating effect in the relationship of anxiety and school life adjustment to prevent and reduce problems of anxiety and smartphone overdependence among university students and to seek alternatives to improve school life adjustment. For this purpose, a structural equation model analysis was conducted on male and female university students attending a four-year university located in Gwangju Metropolitan City to verify the mediated effect. As the result of the analysis, The mediating effects of smartphone overdependence were statistically significant and presented as a partial medium, showing the direct effect of anxiety directly affecting school life adjustment and the indirect effect of anxiety on school life adjustment by means of smartphone overdependence. Based on these findings, the significance of the study and its implications were discussed, and suggestions were put forward for further study.

The Double Mediating Effects of Trait Anxiety and Burnout in the Relationship between Socially Prescribed Perfectionism and Subjective Well-being of Employees (직장인의 사회부과 완벽주의와 주관적 안녕감의 관계에서 특성 불안과 소진의 이중매개효과)

  • This study attempts to verify the double mediating effects of trait anxiety and burnout in the relationship between socially prescribed perfectionism and subjective well-being of employees. For this study, 300 office workers were surveyed to measure the trait anxiety, the burnout, the socially prescribed perfectionism and subjective well-being. The collected data were analyzed with SPSS PROCESS Macroin an bootstrapping method. The result of this study can be summarized as follows. First, socially prescribed perfectionism had significant positive relationship with trait anxiety and burnout. Socially prescribed perfectionism had significant negative relationship with subjective well-being. Also trait anxiety had significant positive relationship with burnout and significant negative relationship with subjective well-being. In addition, burnout had significant negative relationship with subjective well-being. Second, trait anxiety and burnout fully mediated the relationship between socially prescribed perfectionism and subjective well-being. Third, there was a dual mediation effect on trait anxiety and burnout in the relationship between socially prescribed perfectionism and subjective well-being. In conclusion, it suggests that in order to elevate subjective well-being of employees with a high level of socially prescribed perfectionism, it would be more effective to deal with trait anxiety and burnout which are proved to make them happy than to deal with perfectionism itself.

The Effect that Familism Recognized by College Students have on Anxiety Over Aaging and Elderly Group's Attitude: Mediation Effect of a Sense of Filial Duty (대학생이 인식하는 가족주의가 노화불안과 노인연령집단 태도에 미치는 영향 : 효 의식의 매개효과)

  • This study aims to verify the effect that familism recognized by college students has on anxiety over aging and elderly group's attitude as well as mediation effect of a sense of filial duty. For study analysis, 200 college students studying at colleges in Sungnam, Anyang and Incheon in Gyeonggido as well as in Seoul were surveyed using structured questionnaires from May 2, 2016 to June 28, 2016. All of 166 responses except for 34 incomplete ones were used for analysis. Firstly, analysis result confirmed correlation among familism, anxiety over aging, elderly group's attitude and variables in sense of filial duty. Multicollinearity between variables were confirmed using VIF values. Secondly, the effect that familism recognized by college students has on anxiety over aging and elderly group's attitude was confirmed. Thirdly, partial mediation effect of a sense of filial duty was confirmed in the effect that familism recognized by college students has on anxiety over aging. In addition, Sobel Test suggested by Sobel was conducted to verify significance of the mediation effect. This study suggests intervention in and practice of social welfare to promote familism and a sense of filial duty between college students and elderly generation in this era of nuclear family and aging society as well as reduction of anxiety over aging on the part of college students, based on the verified mediation effect of a sense of filial duty in the effect that familism recognized by college students in aging society has on anxiety over aging.

Verification of Spiritual Mediation and Control Effects in the Relationship between Death Anxiety and Meaning of Life: Focused on the Baby Boomers (죽음불안과 삶의 의미의 관계에서 영성의 매개 및 조절효과 검증: 베이비부머를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effects of the spiritual mediating and the control effects of these between the death anxiety and meaning of life in baby boomers. The data for the analysis were collected for baby boomers born in A City from 1955 to 1963 and used a total of 500 data for the final analysis. For the analysis method, SPSS 21.0 was used for descriptive statistics analysis, correlation analysis for investigate correlation between variables, mediating regression analysis for each variable hypothesis test, and control effect of spirituality. We conducted a hierarchical regression analysis to examine the correlation between the two variables. The analysis results are as follows. First, we found that anxiety of death has a significantly effect on the meaning of life. Second, spirituality mediation has a significantly positive effect on the meaning of life. Third, the mediating effect of spirituality was proved in the relationship between death anxiety and meaning of life, and the control effect of spirituality was significant in the relation of death anxiety and meaning of life. As a result of these, it is demonstrating that the meaning of life can be enhanced by strengthening spirituality according to the degree of death anxiety in baby boomers. It shows a way to reduce or eliminate death anxiety that affects the meaning of life and strengthen spirituality.

  • This study examines the mediating effect of Organizational Citizenship Behavior in the relationship between Job Insecurity and self-reported Job Performance. 207 employees from 4 Railroad Organizations (Korail, Seoul Metro, Incheon Metro, Metro 9) are selected as the main target of this study. Based on advanced researches, hypothesizes are developed and according to received questionnaires, SPSS 18.0 is used for testing empirically. Result shows that with Mediating variable OCB, Job Insecurity is negatively associated with self-reported Job Performance. And because OCB is complete mediating in the relationship between Job Insecurity and self-reported Job Performance, actually, OCB is shown to play a very important role in Job Insecurity.

Influence of Socially-Prescribed Perfectionism on Social anxiety and Depression in Academic High School Students: Mediation Effects of Self-focused Attention and Self-Criticism (인문계 고등학생의 사회부과 완벽주의가 우울과 사회불안에 미치는 영향: 자기초점적 주의와 자기비난의 매개효과)

  • The study examined the influence of socially-prescribed perfectionism (SPP) on depression and social anxiety, and further investigated the mediating effects of self-focused attention and self-criticism. The questionnaires designed to measure multidimensional perfectionism, social anxiety, depression, self-focused attention, self-criticism scale for adolescents were administered twice at an interval of three weeks to 273 students (83 men, 190 women) enrolled at high schools in Gyeonggi-do Province. The findings for the present study were as follows. First, SPP, depression, social anxiety, self-focused attention, and self-criticism showed all positive correlations. Second, the mediation effect from the SPP to depression via self-focused attention was statistically significant, whereas the indirect effect from the SPP to depression via self-criticism was not. Third, the pattern in depression was the same in social anxiety. The results provide indirect support for the social anxiety cognitive model (Clark & Wells) with regards to social anxiety particularly in Korean high school students. Finally, the implications and limitations of this study and suggestions for future research were discussed.

Impact of Family Violence Victimization on Peer Violence Behavior in Out-of-School Youths : Mediating Effect of Anxiety and Aggression (학교 밖 청소년의 가정폭력피해와 또래폭력가해와의 관계: 불안과 공격성의 매개효과)

  • The aim of this study is to identify factors that the victimization by family violence has influence on peer violence perpetration through the mediation of anxiety and aggression in out-of-school youths. Subjects consist of 169 out-of-school youths in Chungbuk and data are analyzed by regression analysis with 18.0 version. The findings of this study are as follows. First, the victimization by family violence has positive influence on peer violence perpetration. Second, when the mediating effect of anxiety and aggression is tested, aggression only plays a mediating role between family violence victimization and peer violence behavior. On the basis of the results, this study suggest that we make efforts such as prompt intervention for out-of-school youths and their's family after school dropout, the reinforcement of family relationship, family function and youth competency, and the transition of social perception regarding out-of-school youths to decrease family and peer violence.

  • The study aimed to understand how general characteristics, health consciousness and health behavior of college students are related to physical symptoms, psychological symptoms, self-esteem, social support and the students' satisfaction with college life while it examined how self-esteem and social support are affected by the physical symptoms and psychological symptoms as depression and anxiety and the college life satisfaction. According to the results from path analysis, age, with the social support as a medium, appeared to have had a positive influence on the students' satisfaction with college life while physical symptoms, depression and anxiety had been found, with self-esteem and social support as a media, to affect the students' campus life satisfaction, with physical symptoms positively while depression and anxiety negatively. In conclusion, the study verified mediated effects, sizes and paths of both self-esteem and social support when they are related to physical symptoms, psychological symptoms and college students' satisfaction with their campus life.

A Convergence of Effects in Peer Relationship and Parental Relationship on Suicidal Ideation in Elementary School Students : The Mediating Effects of Anxiety (초등학생들의 또래관계와 부모관계가 자살생각에 미치는 영향의 융복합적 연구 : 불안의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of the study is to examine the effects of peer relationships and parental relationships on suicidal ideation in elementary school students and the mediating effects of anxiety in the process. For this purpose, 273 students in grades 4-6 of elementary school are examined for path analysis of peer relationship, convergent parent relationship, anxiety and suicidal ideation. The main results are as follows. First, anxiety of elementary school students is found to be fully mediating between peer relationship and suicidal ideation. Second, the anxiety of elementary school is found to be partly mediating between parental relationship and suicidal ideation. Therefore, in order to lower the suicidal ideation of the upper grades students of elementary school, developing various programs to reduce anxiety factors and apply them to the practice field is desired.
