Numerical Study on Urea Spraying and Mixing Characteristics with Application of Static Mixer in Marine SCR System (박용 탈질 시스템의 혼합기 적용에 따른 요소수용액 분무 및 혼합특성 수치적 연구)

  • Among various De-NOx technologies, Urea-based Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems are known to be the most effective in marine diesel applications. The spraying and mixing behavior of the urea-water solution has a decisive effect on the system's net efficiency. Therefore, in this study, the spray behavior and ammonia uniformity with and without a static mixer were analyzed by CFD in order to optimize the SCR system. The results showed that the static mixer significantly affected the uniformity of velocity and ammonia concentration. Static mixers may be especially suited for marine SCR systems with space constraints.

Design of flat-field XUV spectrograph with a toroidal mirror (광집속 Toroidal mirror를 이용한 평면결상)

  • The design of a flat-field XUV spectrograph is optimized for a high throughput, aberration-corrected spectral image in the wavelength region of 50-300 $\AA$ The varied-line spacing (VLS) concave grating theory for an XUV spectrograph with a toroidal mirror in front of an entrance slit is derived. Since the derived theory includes the arbitrary shaped source, it is able to correct the limit of the simple optimization theory which considers only a point source at the center of the entrance slit. The reflection matrix at the toroidal mirror and the diffraction matrix at VLS grating are derived and compared with those of a holographic grating. The absolute energy efficiency of a flat-field spectrograph is calculated by considering the reflectivities of the toroidal mirror and the Au coated concave grating and the grating efficiency. The alignment sensitivity of the toroidal mirror and the concave grating is investigated, and the method to achieve the best imaging of XUV spectrum is discussed. The calculated resolving power of the flat-field XUV spectrograph is more than 4000 in the aberration-corrected wavelength range. The focused spot size at the dispersion plane is less than $20\mu \textrm m\times \mu \textrm m$at the wavelength 100$\AA$ It is shown that a high throughput characteristic can also be achieved through a careful adjustment of alignment parameters.

  • 국내의 다음세대 컴퓨터 개발을 위한 VLSI 설계와 CAD 분야에 대한 연구 방향을 제시한다. 연구의 목표는 국제적으로 경쟁할 수 있는 VLSI 설계능력과 백만개 정도의 트랜지스터로 자성된 회로를 경제적으로 설계하기 위한 CAD 기술과 System의 확립이다. ·새로운 회로 구조와 알고리즘에 대한 연구 · CAD 도구와 언어의 개발에 관한 첨단 CAD 기술개발연구 · VLSI 설계에 필요한 CAD 도구 이용과 개발에 필요한 표준 인터페이스, 네트워킹, 컴퓨팅 하드웨어. 시스템 소프트웨어에 대한 연구등의 부분으로 크게 나눌 수 있다. 이용 가능한 CAD system을 평가하고 개선하며 첨단 CAD에 대한 소프트웨어와 하드웨어에 대해 · 컴퓨팅 하드웨어 · 프로그램 분위기 · 네트워킹 능력 ·자료 교환을 위한 표준인터페이스 등에 관해 조사분석도 병행한다.   • Acoustical characteristics of internal pipe structures and a loudspeaker of the thermoacoustic refrigerator are analyzed by using the transfer matrix method. The resonator system is dismantled into verious basic acoustic elements, and then linearized transfer matrices are serially combined with the dynamical system of linearized loudspeaker model, that the total system of thermoacoustic refrigerator can be analyzed in terms of frequency characteristics and acoustic field shape. Additionally, by using equations for energy flow through the capillary stack, the temperature distribution over the stack is numerically estimated. After expressing the acoustic work flow, thermoacoustic flow, and energy loss per unit length in a single capillary duct by using the transverse functional variations, overall energy flow rate and energy balance are obtained for the whole capillary stack. The final expression for energy flow through the stack is numerically evaluated by varying physical parameters obtained from the sound field analysis. After confirming good agreements between predicted and experimental results for the interior sound field of a refrigerator model, the thermoacoustic characteristics of Hofler's apparatus is analyzed by the proposed method and it is observed that the results agree well with Hofler's experimental results.

Choosing clusters for two-stage household surveys (가구조사를 위한 이단추출 표본설계에서의 집락선택)

  • Two-stage sample designs are commonly used for household surveys in Korea using as clusters the enumeration districts (EDs). Since clustering decomposes the population variation into within- and between-cluster variations, the sample sizes allocated in stages can affect the overall precision. Alternative clusters are often considered due to diverse reasons such as the EDs' limitation in size, being out-of-date, and in-assessibility to their household lists. In addition, the EDs are currently under development by the Statistics Korea as an joint effort toward their transition from the traditional practice to the register census from 2015. We present an approach for evaluating the difference in the precision of the mean estimators of the sets of the cluster units in between a hierachical and nested form, where the design effect is used to reflect the effect of the clustering and the sample allocation. We also demonstrate our approach using the U.S. Census counts from the year 2000 for Anne Arundel County in Maryland. Our research shows that the within-cluster variance can be significantly different for survey variables and thus the choice of cluster units and the associated sample allocation scheme should reflect the corresponding variance decomposition due to clustering.

Design Sensitivity Analysis of Coupled MD-Continuum Systems Using Bridging Scale Approach (브리징 스케일 기법을 이용한 분자동역학-연속체 연성 시스템의 설계민감도 해석)

  • We present a design sensitivity analysis(DSA) method for multiscale problems based on bridging scale decomposition. In this paper, we utilize a bridging scale method for the coupled system analysis. Since the analysis of full MD systems requires huge amount of computational costs, a coupled system of MD-level and continuum-level simulation is usually preferred. The information exchange between the MD and continuum levels is taken place at the MD-continuum boundary. In the bridging scale method, a generalized Langevin equation(GLE) is introduced for the reduced MD system and the GLE force using a time history kernel is applied at the boundary atoms in the MD system. Therefore, we can separately analyze the MD and continuum level simulations, which can accelerate the computing process. Once the simulation of coupled problems is successful, the need for the DSA is naturally arising for the optimization of macro-scale design, where the macro scale performance of the system is maximized considering the micro scale effects. The finite difference sensitivity is impractical for the gradient based optimization of large scale problems due to the restriction of computing costs but the analytical sensitivity for the coupled system is always accurate. In this study, we derive the analytical design sensitivity to verify the accuracy and applicability to the design optimization of the coupled system.

Stepwise Volume Decomposition Considering Design Feature Recognition (설계 특징형상 인식을 고려한 단계적 볼륨 분해)

  • To modify product design easily, modern CAD systems adopt the feature-based model as their primary representation. On the other hand, the boundary representation (B-rep) model is used as their secondary representation. IGES and STEP AP203 edition 1 are the representative standard formats for the exchange of CAD files. Unfortunately, both of them only support the B-rep model. As a result, feature data are lost during the CAD file exchange based on these standards. Loss of feature data causes the difficulty of CAD model modification and prevents the transfer of design intent. To resolve this problem, a tool for recognizing design features from a B-rep model and then reconstructing a feature-based model with the recognized features should be developed. As the first part of this research, this paper presents a method for decomposing a B-rep model into simple volumes suitable for design feature recognition. The results of experiments with a prototype system are analyzed. From the analysis, future research issues are suggested.

  • Internet 이용자의 급격한 증가와 광대역 통신망(B-ISDN) 구축의 확산에 따라 ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode)망 접속장치의 큰 수요가 기대되며, 또한 ATM망 접속장치의 성능 향상도 요구되고 있다. 기존의 연구들은 컴퓨터 프로그램의 메모리에 대한 참조가 지역적이라는 특성을 이용한 가상 메모리의 효율적인 페이지 교체 알고리즘 및 캐쉬 처리 방안들이 진행되어 왔다. 본 논문은 ATM 프로토콜 프로세서를 설계하는데 있어 네트워크 트래픽의 지역성(Locality of Reference)을 고려한 캐쉬 메모리 구조를 적용하여 보다 향상된 ATM 셀 수신이 가능하도록 한다. ATM 셀의 가상 패스 식별자/가상 채널 식별자(VPI/VCI)를 캐쉬 처리함으로써, 패킷을 분해, 재조립(Segmentation and Reassembly)할 때 관련 테이블의 검색 시간을 줄일 수 있다. 캐쉬 메모리 적용으로 인한 성능 향상을 평가하기 위해 ATM NIC 프로세서와 내부 캐시 메모리 그리고, 외부 SRAM 사이에 셀 수신 정보의 Read 와 Write에 드는 시간 비용(System Clock Cycle)을 캐시의 Hit 또는 Miss 등에 따라 구분하고, 이를 기반으로 한 시뮬레이터에 3 종류의 ATM 셀 스트림을 가하여 각각에 대해 평균 셀 처리시간, 데이터 버스의 트래픽 비율 그리고, 히트율의 3가지 평가요소를 측정하고, 비교하였다.

A Study on the Ultimate Strength of Tube-Gusset Connection Considering Eccentricity (편심이 고려된 강관-가셋트 접합부의 극한 내력)

  • A numerical analysis and experimental study were performed to investigate the behavior and strength of tube-gusset connection subjected to axial and lateral forces. To investigate the behavior of the connections, experiment was conducted by applying three directional loads. Local buckling and local plastic bending deformation of the connection were observed from the test. Analytical results were compared with test results for the limited cases. Primary interests here are the effect of eccentricity on the strength of the connection. To suggest a formula for the strength of tube-gusset connection, lateral forces were replaced with equivalent wall moment and eccenrtric vertical component force of lateral force. Ultimate strength formula for the each force was proposed. Finally, nondimensionalized ultimate strength interaction relationships between the wall moment of tube($M_w$), vertical axial force($P_v$), and eccentric vertical component of lateral force($P_e$) were formulated through parametric study.

  • Various sizes of hydrazine monopropellant thruster have been used on satellite and space launcher vehicle. The test and handling procedure of hydrazine monopropellant thruster are usually difficult because of the toxicity of hydrazine and its decomposition product gases. Therefore, the numerical analysis can help understand the effects of various design parameters and can reduce the time as well as expenses. In this study, the numerical analysis is performed by modelling the catalyst bed as one dimensional porous medium. Thereby, resulting physical phenomena are examined by considering the variation of catalyst bed characteristics incurred by catalyst granule failure.
