The purpose of this study was to investigate the moderating effect of parent's neglectful behavior on children's irrational beliefs and their style of expressing anger. The subjects consisted of 354 5th and 6th grade elementary school children. The instruments used were the Multidimensional Neglectful Behavior Scale (Straus et al., 1995), the Irrational Belief Scales (Lee, 2004), and the Anger Expression Scale (Spielberger, Krasner, & Solomon, 1988). Data were analyzed by means of both descriptive statistics and hierarchical regression analysis using the SPSS 18.0. The result of this study indicated that there were significant correlations between parent's neglectful behavior and the irrational beliefs and style of anger expression exhibited by the children concerned. Hierarchical regression analysis indicated that, the effects of children's irrational beliefs on their anger was moderated by parent's neglectful behavior. The effects of children's irrational beliefs on their anger control was also moderated by parent's neglectful behavior. In conclusion, parent's neglectful behavior has a moderating effect upon a child's irrational beliefs as it relates to the style of anger expression as exhibited by their children.
Purpose: The purposes of this study were to compare the degree of anger expression, assertive behavior, and self-esteem between a nursing student group and an educational student group, and to identify factors affecting their self-esteem. Methods: This study adopted the descriptive comparative design. Data were collected by interviewing 97 nursing students and 89 educational students from three nursing schools and one educational school in Daegu, Korea from November to December, 2008. Results: Major findings of this study were as follows. 1) The educational student group had a higher self-esteem score than the nursing student group. 2) There were significant correlations among anger expression, assertive behavior, and self-esteem. 3) Self-esteem was significantly associated with Grade Point Average (GPA) and assertive behavior in the nursing student group with 17.2% variance, and with assertive behavior and anger-out in the educational student group with 24.1% variance. Conclusion: These results may contribute to better understanding of hurt, anger expression, assertive behavior, and self-esteem in nursing students and educational students. Based on the results, there, it is required to develop programs that prompt students' self-esteem.
This study examined the effect of parents' neglect behavior and children's irrational beliefs on children's anger expression style. The participants were 379 5th and 6th grade elementary school children. The major findings were as follows. Children tended to perceive higher levels of their parents' cognitive and emotional neglect than physical and home environmental neglect. Boys perceived higher levels of their parents' physical, supervisory and home environmental neglect than girls, and girls showed higher level of excessively self-expecting belief than boys. There were statistically significant correlations between the parents' neglect behavior, their child's irrational beliefs and anger expression style. A regression analysis showed that parents' physical and cognitive neglect were predictors of children's anger control. Children's excessive apprehension and avoidance beliefs were the best predictors of children's anger-in, while children's deterministic belief was the best predictor of children's anger-out. Parents' physical neglect behavior appeared to be powerful predictor.
Purpose: As anger may be strongly related to stroke, this study examined the relationship between anger expression style (anger-in, anger-out, anger-control) and risk factors for stroke to investigate the possible attribution of anger expression style to stroke incidence. Methods: The cross sectional study design was employed. The 291 participants signed consent forms and completed questionnaires including the anger expression style scales and risk factors for stroke. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test and One-way ANOVA. Results: The highest score among anger expression styles of the participants was from anger-control. Participants with higher mean value of anger-out were current non-smokers, doing regular exercise, having scores above 23 in Body Mass Index, having scores above 90 cm (male) or 80 cm (female) in abdominal circumference, and having scores below 85 mmHg in diastolic blood pressure. Participants with more than 5 risk factors to stroke had the highest score of anger-in. Conclusion: The results of this study implied anger expression style was psychological risk factor for stroke. Further studies to differentiate the anger expression style contributing to the risk of stroke are needed with a longitudinal study design.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the difference in health behavior according to the anger expression styles in patients with coronary arteries disease. Methods: Participants included 99 patients with coronary artery disease who were treated with a percutaneous coronary intervention in K University Hospital in Seoul, from January to March 2012. The survey data were collected using the Anger Expression Inventory Korea Version and the Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile Version 2. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, acluster analysis, chi-square test, and ANOVA with the PASW 19.0program. Results: The anger expression styles identified from the cluster analysis were anger-control type(43.3%), anger-in/out type(42.4%), and high anger expression type(14.4%). The total score of the Health Promoting Life style Profile for the anger-control type was significantly higher than the other two types. Additionally, anger-control type showed significantly higher scores than the other two types in all domains of the Health Promoting Life style Profile. Conclusion: These results indicated that higher levels of anger-in and anger-out increased the risk of adverse health behavior and that anger control strategies could have some benefit in reinforcing healthy behavior in patients with coronary artery disease.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a lecture on oral presentation and to evaluate changes in anger expression, assertive behavior, and self-esteem after lecture on oral presentation. Methods: The design was a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The participants were university students in nursing, of which 17 were assigned to the experimental group and 15 to the control group. The education was carried out for 2 hours, once a week for 14 weeks. Data was analyzed with SPSS/WIN 14 program, and included chi-square test, independent t-test, and repeated measure ANOVA. Results: Lecture on oral presentation showed significant differences in the changes of anger expression (F=10.122, p=.003) and assertive behavior (F=8.498, p=.007). Conclusion: Findings suggest that this lecture on oral presentation was effective in changing students' anger expression and assertive behavior. Therefore this lecture on oral presentation is recommended for inclusion in education for university students in nursing.

Particularly, to ensure that the anger of emotion is common nature, this study was conducted on the middle class adolescent of stable economic status. Method: The subjects of this study were 357 students, first grade from 3 high schools in Seoul. Data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, correlation, and hierarchial regression, using the SPSS 18.0 program. Results: The main results were as follows: First, in parenting attitude the perception of monitoring and affection was less important for boys than girls, but more important in over expectation and neglect. Second, in anger expression the level of anger-control appeared higher than anger-in and anger-out, no significant gender difference in subfactors. Third, the effect of gender moderated the relationships between parenting attitude and anger expression of adolescent. Conclusions: The results indicated the need to recognize gender difference in controlling anger of adolescent and to improve dysfunctional parenting attitude in middle class. Furthermore, the implications were discussed in enhancing parent-adolescent communication, developing emotional education programs, and preventing juvenile delinquency.

Purpose: This cross-sectional study was designed to identify anger-expression types of adolescent women and investigate the relation between the identified anger-expression types and their problem behaviors and health status. Method: One hundred ninety nine high school freshmen were recruited from September to November, 2003. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, cluster analysis, 2-test, ANOVA, and Duncan's multiple comparison test. Result: Three anger-expression types in adolescent women were found; Anger-out/in, Anger-control/in, and Anger-control type. Adolescent women with frequently using the anger-out/in type and with higher state anger reported more delinquent behaviors, more health risk behaviors, and higher psychosomatic symptoms. However, adolescent women with lower state anger and frequently using the anger-control type reported more depression scores. Conclusion: There is a need to further clarify the relationship between anger-expression type sand depression in adolescent women. The findings suggest the necessity of a development of the program for lowering the anger level and controlling the unfavorable anger expression types such as the anger-out in.
Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the differences in the characteristics of anger expression, positive thinking, gratitude, and trait anger, and factors affecting trait anger in college majors. Methods: The participants were 339 college students and recruited from two universities in P and D cities. Data were analyzed with descriptive analysis, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and stepwise regression analysis using the SPSS/WIN 20.0 program. Results: There were significant differences in anger-in, anger-control, positive thinking, gratitude, and trait anger according to college majors. Moreover, anger-out was a significant factor of trait anger in all college majors. Positive thinking was a significant factor of trait anger in all college majors but natural sciences college. In terms of art, music and physical education college. Three subscales of anger expression and positive thinking were significant factors of trait anger in art music and physical education colleges majors. Conclusion: The finding of this study suggests strategies for promoting appropriate anger expression techniques and enhancing positive thinking of college students in order to decrease trait anger.
Purpose: This cross-sectional study was designed to identify anger-expression types of adolescent women and investigate the relationship between the identified anger-expression types and their problem behaviors and suicide probability. Methods: The participants were 942 students at two female high school located in Gwangju. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, cluster analysis, t-test, ANOVA, and $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ multiple comparison test. Results: Cluster analysis revealed 4 distinct anger expression types; Anger-out, Low anger expression, Anger-control, and Anger-in/out types. Female adolescent women had a higher level of trait anger or who frequently used the anger-in/out type reported internalized-externalized problem behaviors and suicide probability more frequently compared to those who frequently used the other three types of anger expression. Conclusion: Female adolescent women who had the low anger expression type and anger control type managed anger most effectively. The findings suggest the necessity of a development of the program for lowering the trait anger level and controlling the unfavorable anger expression types such as the anger-in/out.
