Visualization Study of Character Type by Emotion Word Extraction (감정어 추출을 통한 등장인물 성향 가시화 연구)

  • 본 논문에서는 영화의 등장인물의 성향을 파악하기 위해 시나리오의 대사로부터 감정어를 추출하고, 등장인물의 감정어들을 긍정, 부정, 중립의 3개로 단순화하여 등장인물의 성향을 가시화 시켜주는 방법을 제안한다. 대사로부터 감정어를 추출하기 위해 WordNet 기반의 감정어 추출 방법을 제안한다. WordNet은 단어 간에 상위어와 하위어, 유사어 등의 관계로 연결된 네트워크 구조의 사전이다. 이 네트워크 구조에서 최상위의 감정 항목과의 거리를 계산하여 단어별 감정량을 계산하여 대사를 30 차원의 감정 벡터로 표현한다. 등장인물별로 추출된 감정 벡터를 긍정, 부정, 중립의 3개의 차원으로 단순화 하여 등장인물의 성향을 표현한다.

Detection of Character Emotional Type Based on Classification of Emotional Words at Story (스토리기반 저작물에서 감정어 분류에 기반한 등장인물의 감정 성향 판단)

  • In this paper, I propose and evaluate the method that classifies emotional type of characters with their emotional words. Emotional types are classified as three types such as positive, negative and neutral. They are selected by classification of emotional words that characters speak. I propose the method to extract emotional words based on WordNet, and to represent as emotional vector. WordNet is thesaurus of network structure connected by hypernym, hyponym, synonym, antonym, and so on. Emotion word is extracted by calculating its emotional distance to each emotional category. The number of emotional category is 30. Therefore, emotional vector has 30 levels. When all emotional vectors of some character are accumulated, her/his emotion of a movie can be represented as a emotional vector. Also, thirty emotional categories can be classified as three elements of positive, negative, and neutral. As a result, emotion of some character can be represented by values of three elements. The proposed method was evaluated for 12 characters of four movies. Result of evaluation showed the accuracy of 75%.

The Power of Reputation: Can Socal Reputation Effect on Likability, Trust and Preference of Interpersonal Relationship? (평판의 위력: 사회적 평판이 호감과 신뢰 및 선호도에 영향을 미치는가?)

  • In our studies, We defined the concept of social reputation and aimed to estimate the effect of social reputation on likability, trust, preference of interpersonal relationship. To accomplish these goal, photographs of 12 persons(six young unmarried man, six young unmarried women) volunteered were shown to 60 raters, and the one male and one female pictures of scores of facial attractiveness are nearest to median were selected as experimental figures in preliminary study. After this, We asked 260 raters to assess likability, trust, preference of interpersonal relationship after showing raters the chosen pictures of man and woman and telling scenario of positive, negative reputation about these two persons. The outcomes showed that in both men and women, likability, trust, preference of persons who gained positive reputation were significantly higher than persons gained negative reputation. Facial attractiveness was effect on likability, trust, and preference, but effect size of reputation was much higher on likability, interpersonal preference, especially trust level. Also, in three-way ANCOVA results, Woman has showed higher likability and trust than man under the condition of good reputation in both woman was rater and object to be assessed, but on the contrary, likability, trust, and preference of woman were lower than man in either woman was rater or object to be judged under the bad reputation,. Lastly, this study's implications and limitations were discussed.

Symbolic Analysis of a Figure Character in Satirical Cartoon 'National Intelligence Service Female Agent' (만평 속 인물캐릭터인 '국정원 여직원'의 기호적 분석)

  • Satirical cartoon features figure characters that liken to particular figures or social phenomenon to satirize particular figures or social phenomenon. Through the words and actions of figure characters in satirical carton, fraudulentact of man in power or irrational social phenomenon is revealed. The National Intelligence Service (NIS) female agent that is the figure character of this study has been appearing in satirical cartoon for a long time and it likens to social phenomenon instead of a actual figure. The reason why the NIS female agent has been appearing as a figure character in satirical cartoon for a long time is because related social phenomenon has not ended and is still in progress. In addition, the reason why it likens to social phenomenon instead of an actual figure is based on the fact that it is not easy to identify her face that has been hidden, which makes it difficult to exaggerate the characteristic of the figure. Her hidden face is also an expression of the desire to hide that is symbolized by baseball cap and muffler. Her hidden face and the desire to hide make it easy to substitute to other related figure or social phenomenon instead of actual figure. Namely, outward appearance of the NIS female agent has a good condition for combining 'added significance' in satirical cartoon. Irrelevant to actual NIS female agent, a satirical cartoon figure of NIS female agent is being combined with various meanings when needed and it is substituted as another figure, group or social phenomenon as the actual figure disappears. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to reveal the role of figure character in satirical cartoon by symbolically analyzing the figure character that appears in satirical cartoon as 'NIS female agent'. The followings were revealed through the symbolic analysis of figure character in satirical cartoon in this study. First, satirical cartoon satirizes social phenomenon. Figure character in satirical cartoon satirizes social phenomenon in place of actual figure. Second, satirical cartoon satirizes core or embarrassing area of irrational social phenomenon created by politics. Figure character in satirical cartoon satirizes core or embarrassing area of social phenomenon by revealing it in place of actual figure. Third, satirical cartoon sends a message of warning to a responsible person of irrational social phenomenon created by politics. Fourth, satirical cartoon provides catharsis for enduring wound or stress received by individual due to irrational social phenomenon created by politics.   • This study examines how disability pride of people having acquired visual impairment can be constructed. The theme is explored with the Japanese TV drama "Challenged". The paradigms regarding construction of disability pride and acceptance of disability are fundamentally different. In this context it can be said that a criticism of disability acceptance theory has something with a criticism of medical model of disability. It is main character Hanawa and chairman of teachers, and principal who were noticeable specifically at the point of forming disability pride, and these characters show a common feature that social idealism is embodied in their awareness. Other characters of the drama show a change of their consciousness to social idealism. As a conclusion this study suggests importances of humanistic and social scientific analysis as well as of educational effects achieved by means of drama.

An Analysis on the Distribution of Books on Korea in WorldCat: With a Focus on Biographies for Juvenile Readers (WorldCat과 한국 관련 장서의 분포에 관한 연구 - 청소년 대상 전기를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to review the current status of disseminating knowledge on Korean people by analyzing biographies for juvenile and general audiences with the subject term 'Korea' in WorldCat. Languages and topics of 15,007 bibliographic records and topic facets, biographees, and holding libraries in the U.S. of 487 biographies for juvenile audiences were analyzed. Major findings are as follows: 1) 30 English biographies are held by may libraries in the U.S. and the most popular subjects are Kim Il-song and Kim Jong-il, 2) 457 Korean biographies are not held by many libraries, and King Sejong and the General Yi Sun-sin are the most popular subjects, 3) many Korean biographies are picture books for the very young readers with the focus on Korean folklores and anecdotal biographies, and 4) there are some errors in topic facets, dispersion of biographees, and inaccurate holding lists of bibliographic records. Therefore, there seems to be little to read with an interest and promote the diffusion of knowledge on Korean people through libraries.

  • San-he-ming-zhu-bao-jian-quan-zhuan(三合明珠寶劍全傳), this work is characterized as follows: First of all, San-he-ming-zhu- bao-jian-quan-zhuan's charaters appear equally, the readers feels familiar. this work is formed a universal consensus. Ordinary people must empathize about xia-yi(俠義) and retribution, this work was well represented. Because the readers would have liked to this story. It was an intimate relationship between China and the Joseon Dynasty(朝鮮) all the way, The Joseon Dynasty imported books and the products of civilization. High official, official interpreter, woman loves the classic Chinese novel. The classic Chinese novel was transcribed, published, translated into a book. San-he-ming-zhu-bao-jian-quan-zhuan were introduced in the Joseon Dynasty, Sungkyunkwan(成均館) University holds one version. This work is being compromised, many missing words. Domestic holdings are rare. San-he-ming-zhu-bao-jian-quan-zhuan is a novel of chivalry, the character are classified into the chivalry, negative hero, person of affection, fantastic figure. This work is centered around Majun(馬俊). Maluanying(馬鸞英) is the heroin, seen as the classic case of overcoming adversity. Quzhongcheng(屈忠成) is the prime minister, negative figure, he fight with the chivalry, was defeated at the end. Liuxu(柳絮) is person of affection, overcoming adversity, marries the two lady, has a heroic side. Fantastic figure is more enriching the contents of the work, is Buddhist and Taoist figure, serves as the positive and the negative role. San-he-ming-zhu-bao-jian-quan-zhuan is a similar assessment on Zheng-chunyuan(爭春園)'s character and plot, But Liuxu's love story is strengthened. Therefore, continued research is needed for this work.

The Envy and Suffering: Feelings of Characters Appearing in Self-Development Narrative - Focusing on a Soap Opera (시기심과 고통: 자기계발 서사에 나타난 감정 연구 - 막장드라마 <아내의 유혹>을 중심으로 -)

  • This study aims at analyzing the trend of feeling under the neo-liberalism era through the soap operas. In particular, this article focuses on 'envy'. Unlike jealousy, envy is the feeling of comparison appearing in people in similar circumstances that is displayed within the dual relation with its characteristic of having dynamics on the fortune (victory) of the other party for an unpleasant feeling, denial and interference. However, under the neo-liberalistic order with unlimited competition as its characteristic, 'envy' has the tendency to discourse with its passion of subjects participating in the limited share of competition. This begins in 'envy' under a soap opera to lead to competition to reproduce as the drama to dream of success for self-development. Under the circumstances, the feeling or behavior of characters not showing the general pattern but to individualize with the envious behavior of evil characters to turn away from the structural context for characters of issue of suffering originated within. For example, the soap opera imagines with 'envy' for the feeling of characters to reproduce the neo-liberalistic subject in darkness as well as to transfigure the suffering or context encountered by the characteristics to present the issues.

A Study on HanYongUn's Sijo (한용운 시조의 내면 세계와 표현 미학)

  • This paper is written in order to research for the contents and expression of HanYongUn's Sijo. HanYongUn is very famous as monk and independent campaigner, modern poet in Korea. He wrote many kinds of literary works, for example, many modern poetry, modern novels, Sijo, Chino-Korean Poetry etc. It's very exceptional that he wrote a lot of Korean traditional Sijo and Chino-Korean Poetry. Because he was a many modern poet as same as modern novelist. So studying on his Sijo can help someone to understand the essence of HanYongUn's all literature. That's why I'm studying on HanYongUn's Sijo. The firstly, in aspect of the the contents of HanYongUn's Sijo, HanYongUn was expressing three kinds of themes, that is ideology, reality, daily life in his Sijo. The ideology consists of Buddhism and Confucianism and the reality is related with social conditions, the daily life is deeply connected with Nim. These features of his Sijo are different from his modern poetry and Chino-Korean Poetry which had a simple theme, for example, love with Nim, daily life. The secondly, in aspect of the expression of HanYongUn's Sijo, I studied the expression of HanYongUn's Sijo in three angles, that is, vocabulary and the developing of poet thinking, rhetorics. HanYongUn used essential words for expressing three kinds of themes effectively in his Sijo. And he was developing of his poet thinking by three steps in his Sijo. He applied several representative rhetorics to his Sijo, those are question and answer, exclamation, irony, distich etc. Even though I studied the characteristics of HanYongUn's Sijo in two aspects But there could be the other things to study about these kinds of theme. I might continue researching the other kinds of theme next time in the near future.

A Study on the Relationship between the Evaluation of Morality on the Korean Drama Characters and the Drama Enjoyment and Quality Evaluation by Foreign Audience (외국 시청자들의 한국 드라마 등장인물에 대한 도덕성 평가와 드라마 '흥미도'와 '질 평가'와의 관계 분석)

  • In this study, we examined how the United States, Chinese, and Japanese viewers perceive the morality of the main characters in the family drama 'Take Care of Mom' and the influence of the perceived morality has on drama enjoyment and quality evaluation. Results show that the viewers from all three countries evaluated 'Hoonjae' favorably and evaluated selfish older brother, 'Hyung Kyu', unfavorably. This means there are common norms that exist in all three countries for judging the good and evil in a drama. However, the main female characters that played opposing characteristics were evaluated differently from all three countries. This is because the relationship between parents and children, and the role of mother and woman were perceived differently from each country. These results support the argument that consumption of drama may differ by viewer's cultural background. Additionally, the research hypothesis that 'moral evaluation of major characters will influence the drama enjoyment and evaluation of the drama quality' was not supported in China and Japan, and was only supported by the U.S. viewers.
