  • This study have researched on feasibility of bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA, which is simple useful evaluation tool for predictive factor of cardiovascular disease) to patients who have to travel along the sea for a long-period time and have difficulty in visiting medical institutions. We studied on the basis of total cholesterol value, which is nowadays widely used tool for predictive factor of cardiovascular disease, and also studied its association with BIA value via statistical analysis. Our result showed correlation with fat thickness of individual sites, and especially, fat thickness of left thigh showed high relation with total cholesterol value. This result shows that people who are in travel of long-period of time at sea are feasible of using BIA to evaluate changes of left thigh fat thickness as predictive factor for cardiovascular disease. Due to lack of advanced researches further studies should be done. And based on special circumstances in sea, more studies should be done to validity concerning this circumstances and accuracy of this evaluation tool.

  • In this study, a column member of an existing architecture finished with gypsum board was assumed to examine fire resistance characteristics according to the type and thickness of finishing material. All specimens showed spalling to the reinforcing part after fire resistance test. For temperature characteristics, rapid temperature increase of 100${\sim}$200 $^{\circ}C$ was shown between 35 ${\sim}$ 60 minutes in the sequence of 9.5 T, 9.5 T (2 pieces), 12.5 T, 15 T and fire resistant 12.5 T. The analysis suggested that finishing materials with better fire resistance are necessary.

  • In recent times, large strands have become increasingly popular in the pretensioned prestressed industry and have found wide applications in varying geometries of sections. However, use of such elements and their behavior in several situations have been questioned with respect to anchoring of these strands in concrete. In addition, the experimental results available on bond are limited and information relating to large strands is rare. This study was conducted to determine the influence of some of the inadequately examined properties on transfer length of prestressing strand. The principle variables considered were strand size, concrete strength and clear bottom cover. The experimental results indicate clearly that concrete strength at transfer and cover size influence transfer length significantly. An attempt was made to suggest prediction equation for transfer length including above parameters.

  • Variable thickness plates are commonly encountered in the majority of mechanical/structural components of industrial applications. And, as a result of the unsymmetry of the structure or the load and the anisoptropy of the materials, the cracks in engineering structures are generally subjected to combined stresses. In spite of considerable practical interest, however, a few fracture mechanics study on combined mode crack in a variable thickness plate have carried out. In this respect, combined mode I/III stress intensity factors $K_I$ and $K_III$ at the crack tip for a variable thickness plate were obtained by 3-dimensional finite element analysis. Variable thickness plates containing a central slant crack were chosen. The parameters used in this study were dimensionless crack length $\lamda$, crack slant angle $\alpha$, thickness ratio $\beta$ and width ratio $\omega$. Stress intensity factors were calculated by crack opening displacement(COD) and crack tearing displacement(CTD) method.

  • A model for the effective moment of inertia $I_{\epsilon}$ as expressed in Branson's equation, in which reduction of the flexural rigidity of RC beams due to cracking are aptly taken into accoun,t is presented. However, KCI Code isn`t considered tension stiffening as it is in debonding of reinforcing bar. Therefore, this equation need to set up suitable to our design Code. The experimental work consisted of casting and testing a total of 6 simply supported reinforced concrete beams and a total of 4 continuos reinforced concrete beams under two point concentrated loads. Main parameters are concrete strength, coverage, bond between concrete and reinforcing bars, are known as have an effect on deflection and tension stiffening. Every test beams had the same $250{\times}350$mm rectangular section, with a simply supported clear span of 4,400 mm and a continuos clear span of 6,500 mm. Comparison of the test results with values obtained using the KCI Code equation of the effective moment of inertia showed a noticeable difference.

  • In designing a high strength bolted beam splice using steel for building structures, it is necessary to present the appropriate steel grade selection criteria for how to determine the cover plate steel grade. This study examined the difference in tensile behavior according to the steel grades through static tensile tests simulating the beam member high strength bolt joints flange. For this purpose, the specimens were designed and fabricated with the main variables, such as the thickness, steel grade and the strength of flange and cover plate, which are expected to affect the splice strength and behavior. The tensile test results for a total of 48 specimens showed that the tensile-load capacity exceeded the design tensile strength applied with a nominal strength of steel in all specimens. When the design strength of the cover plate exceeded 1.25 times that of the flange plate, the flange plate governed the behavior of splice. The change in maximum tensile load due to the change in flange steel grade is not very large, but there is a difference in deformation. The test results confirmed that the steel grade and thickness of the cover plate were the main factors affecting the beam splice behavior.

  • Steel-concrete single-leaf blast-resistant doors are protective structures consisting of a steel box and reinforced concrete slab. By the domestic blast-resistant doors, the structure is not designed efficiently because few studies have examined the effects of variables, such as the blast pressure, rebar ratio, and steel plate thickness on the structural behavior. In this study, the structural behavior of the doors was analyzed using the FE method, and the support rotation and ductility ratio used to classify the structural performance were reviewed. The results showed that the deflection changes more significantly when the plate thickness increases than when the rebar spacing is a variable. This is because the strain energy absorbed by the door is reduced considerably when the plate thickness increases, and as a result, the maximum deflection becomes smaller. According to a comparison of the calculated values of the support rotation and the ductility ratio, the structural performance of the doors could be classified based on the support rotation of one degree and ductility ratio of three. On the other hand, more explosion tests and analytical studies will be needed to classify the damage level.

  • Aging and severe environments are major causes of damage in reinforced concrete (RC) structures such as buildings and bridges. Deterioration such as concrete cracks, corrosion of steel, and deformation of structural members can significantly degrade the structural performance and safety. Therefore, effective and easy-to-use methods are desired for repairing and strengthening such concrete structures. Various methods for strengthening and rehabilitation of RC structures have been developed in the past several decades. Recently, FRP composite materials have emerged as a cost-effective alternative to the conventional materials for repairing, strengthening, and retrofitting deteriorating/deficient concrete structures, by externally bonding FRP laminates to concrete structural members. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) in predicting behavior of circular type concrete column retrofitted with FRP. To construct training and testing dataset, experiment results for the specimens which have different retrofit profile are used. Retrofit ratio, strength of existing concrete, thickness, number of layer, stiffness, ultimate strength of fiber and size of specimens are selected as input parameters to predict strength, strain, and stiffness of post-yielding modulus. These proposed ANFIS models show reliable increased accuracy in predicting constitutive properties of concrete retrofitted by FRP, compared to the constitutive models suggested by other researchers.

  • A total of 6 stepwise constructions were made for building the floating mass concrete foundation. The optimal curing strategies and specialized construction guidelines were adoptively extracted from the 1.5m cube mock-up test prior to the main concrete work. Two different thermal crack index(TCI) calculations from current construction manual exhibit relatively low values as comparing the measured temperature data. This implies that the hydration-induced cracking could be developed in parts of concrete mass. However, the controversial phenomenons in reality were observed. No significant surface cracks are detected at the successive construction stages. Thereby, this paper raises the question regarding on the existence of characteristic length with varying size and shape of a target specimen which are missing in the current construction manual. The isothermal core area and high thermal gradient area in the edge volume should be identified and be introduced to TCI calculation for the purpose of an accuracy.
