  • The present study examined the effects of child maltreatment and self-control on reactive aggression amongst middle-school students and investigated whether students' self-control had any form of moderating effect on the relationship between child maltreatment and reactive aggression. The participants of this study consisted of 482 students (204 boys and 278 girls) from four middle schools located in Seoul and Gyoung-gi province. The Peer Conflict Scale (Marsee, Kimonis, & Frick, 2004) was used to measure the level of reactive aggression. The level of child maltreatment was assessed by means of the Child Trauma Questionnaire (Bernstein & Fink, 1998). Self-control was measured by the Self-Control Scale (Nam, 1999). Statistical analyses of data used for this study comprised the following methods; frequency, mean, standard deviation, and hierarchical regression. The moderating effect of self-control was analyzed by using the procedures proposed by Baron and Kenny (1986). The results indicated that the level of child maltreatment increased the level of reactive aggression whereas the level of self-control decreased the level of reactive aggression. In addition, self-control moderated the influence of child maltreatment on student's reactive aggression. As a result, the influence of child maltreatment upon reactive aggression was greater when the level of self-control was low, compared to when it was high.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop and evaluate an attachment improvement program for families adopting an older child. The objectives and contents of this program reflected on the experiences of adopted parents and the characteristics of older-age adoptee children with attachment disruption. The program consisted of three components: parent-child relationship building, parenting skills enhancement for adopted parents, and negative emotions mediation for the older-age adoptees. The subjects of program were eight parent-child dyads. Differences between pre- and post-test data showed statistically significant improvements in the quality of parent-child relationships, communication levels with parents, and the parents' autonomic levels. There was also a reduction in the children's social problems. The implications of this study were discussed in terms of improving parent-child attachments in families adopting an older child.

The data were analyzed by Chi-square test, t-test, one-way ANOVA and stepwise multiple linear regression. In multiple stepwise regression analysis, less depression, higher resilience, higher self-esteem, more affectionate parenting behavior, lower age enhances the life satisfaction of adolescents with allergic disease. Educational program is necessary to improve the life satisfaction of adolescents with asthma or atopic dermatitis which is reflecting the result of this study.

  • The purpose of this study was development and application of a multiple box model for long term prediction and control of water quality in estuary reservoir. The model was composed of one main model and two sub models for hydrology and water quality. Water quality constituents for modeling were temperature, chlorophyll-a, BOD, DO, N, and P. The model had been applied to Asan reservoir, and the reservoir had been devided into three boxes-two boxes for a upper layer and one box for a lower layer-to represent stratification. The model appeared satisfactory in representing long term trend of water quality variations by comparing measured and simulated results. According to the application of the model to study alternatives for water quality improvement to deal with increase in future pollution load, use of non-phosphorous detergent for chlorophyll-a, advanced sewage treatment for BOD and T-N, reduction of livestock waste for T-P were evaluated as more effective ones than any others, respectively.

  • As the ratio of double-income households and parental leave use increase, there is an increasing demand for products that help when raising children alone. In particular, there is a lot of demand for baby beds that help raise children without difficulty even by themselves. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a real-time monitoring of a smart crib using a sound sensor. The proposed bed uses a sound sensor to detect the child's crying and condition, and the measured sensor output value can be checked with a mobile application. When the sound sensor output value is more than a certain value, a voice file such as a lullaby recorded with the voice of the parents is played, and if the sensor output value is less than a certain value, the playing voice file is stopped. If the sensor output value continues to exist after a certain period of time, a pop-up notification is sent to the mobile application. This allows the child to quickly calm down with a sense of stability and comfort through the recorded voices of the parents, and the parents can remotely monitor the child's condition in real time.

  • Cooperation of the patients in orthodontic treatment is an essential element. This study examines the internal and external restriction factors and level of cooperation for orthodontic treatment of adolescent orthodontic treatment patients, and the factors that impart influence on the level of cooperation for orthodontic treatment. 'Form for students' among the indices of internal and external restrictions for orthodontics, which is an adaption of 'Orthodontic Locus of Control Scale' was used as survey tool, and 'Reliability and Stability of the Orthodontic Patient Cooperation Scale' was used as survey tool for the level of cooperation of orthodontic patients. As the result of examination of the effect of internal and external restriction factors on level of cooperation for orthodontic treatment by compensating the general characteristics in the multiple regression analysis, it was found that the level of cooperation for orthodontic treatment is higher for the patients who believe there is strong influence of external restrictions-patents-on the events that determines orthodontic treatment. In order to enhance the level of cooperation for orthodontic treatment of adolescent orthodontic patients, there is a need to assess the relationship between the patient and parents as well as the attitude or psychological state of the patients on orthodontic treatment.

Second, the examination of educational environments of kindergartens told that teachers and parents thought that opportunity to enter the kindergarten is not equal for all children in our country, and quality of kindergarten teachers is satisfactory. Also, they thought that curriculums of preschool educational organs have been set well according to children's developmental stages, education quality is different according to preschool education organs' foundation-types. They recognized that facilities and apparatus of preschools are satisfactory, security and neatness of preschools are satisfactory, too. Third, the examination of developmental directions of preschool education as a public education proved following facts; as for foundation-types of kindergartens in the future when promoting preschool education as a public education, parents answered financial support and supervision by the government, teachers answered aid and management of operational fees as well as support for teacher personnel expenses.
