  • This paper proposes a method that estimates MIMO channel characteristics analytically using a 3D ray tracing propagation model. We calculate the discrete spatial correlation between sub-channels by considering phase differences of paths, and using this, estimate the mean capacity upper bound of MIMO channel by Jensen's inequality. This analysis model is a deterministic model that do not approach stochastically through measurement nor approach statistically through Monte-Carlo simulations, so this model has high efficiency for time and cost. And based on the electromagnetic theory, this model may analyze quantitatively the parameters which can affect the channel capacity - antenna pattern, polarization mutual coupling, antenna structure and etc. This model may be used for the development of an optimal antenna structure for MIMO systems.

  • Rotational machines such as optical disk drives, hard disk drives, and so on are subject to periodic disturbances caused by their mechanical characteristics. In the meanwhile, it is well known that repetitive control rejects periodic disturbance effectively. This paper presents a practical application of repetitive control to the track-following servo of an optical disk drive. The repetitive control system is composed of two repetitive controllers which compensate for periodic disturbances generated by track geometry and eccentric rotation of disk and a feedback controller stabilizing the feedback loop. A robust stability for all plant uncertainties is proved using linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). In the controller design, a weighting function is introduced for the feedback controller to ensure a minimum loop gain and a sufficient phase margin. The repetitive controllers and the feedback controller are designed by solving an optimization problem which can consider the robust stability condition and the system performance. The developed repetitive control system is implemented in the digital control system with a 16-bit fixed-point digital signal processor (DSP). Through simulation and experiment. The feasibility of the proposed repetitive control system is verified.

  • A dynamic system is called positive if any trajectory of the system starting from non-negative initial states remains forever non-negative for non-negative controls. In this paper, new sufficient conditions for asymptotic stability of the interval positive time-varying linear discrete-time systems with time-varying delay in states are considered. The considered time-varying delay time has an interval-like bound which has minimum and maximum delay time. The proposed conditions are established by using a solution bound of the Lyapunov equation and they are expressed by simple inequalities which do not require any complex numerical algorithms. An example is given to illustrate that the new conditions are simple and effective in checking stability for interval positive time-varying discrete systems.

  • In this paper, we consider the problem of $H_{\infty}$ filtering for continuous-time singular systems with multiple state-delays. The aim of designed filter is to guarantee regularity, impulse-free, asymptotic stability and $H_{\infty}$ norm bound of filtering error singular system. By establishing a finite sum inequality based on quadratic terms, a new delay-dependent BRL (bounded real lemma) for singular systems with multiple state-delays is derived. Based on the result, the existence condition of $H_{\infty}$ filter and filter design method are proposed in terms of LMI (linear matrix inequality). Finally, a numerical example is provided to show the validity of the design methods.

  • A systematic output tracking control design technique for robust control of Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy systems with norm bounded uncertainties is developed. The uncertain T-S fuzzy system is first represented as a set of uncertain local linear systems. The tracking problem is then converted into the stabilization problem for a set of uncertain local linear systems thereby leading to a more feasible controller design procedure. A sufficient condition for robust asymptotic output tracking is derived in terms of a set of linear matrix inequalities. A stability condition on the traversing time instances is also established. The output tracking control simulation for a flexible-joint robot-arm model is demonstrated, to convincingly show the effectiveness of the proposed system modeling and controller design.

  • This paper presents a delay dependent fuzzy $H_{\infty}$ controller design method for delayed fuzzy dynamic systems. Using delay-dependent Lyapunov function, the global exponential stability and $H_{\infty}$ performance problem arc discussed. A sufficient conditions for the existence of fuzzy controller is presented in terms of linear matrix inequalities(LMIs). A simulation example is given to illustrate the design procedures and performances of the proposed methods.

  • This paper considers a method to design sliding mode observers for a class of uncertain systems using Linear Matrix Inequalities(LMI). In an LMI-based sliding mode observer design method for a class of uncertain systems the switching surface is set to be the difference between the observer and system output. In terms of LMIs, a necessary and sufficient condition is derived for the existence of a sliding-mode observer guaranteeing a stable sliding motion on the switching surface. The gain matrices of the sliding-mode observer are characterized using the solution of the LMI existence condition. The results are illustrated by an example.

  • In this paper, we propose the stability analysis and design methodology for the discrete-time affine Type III fuzzy system via the convex optimization technique. First, the stability condition is derived under which the discrete-time affine Type III fuzzy system is quadratically stable in the large. Next, the derived condition is reformulated into the convex optimization problem called Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMI) and numerically addressed. Finally, the effectiveness and the feasibility of the proposed analysis and design methodology is highlighted via an example and its computer simulation result.

  • This paper presents an LMI(Lincar Matrix Inequalities) method for designing the optimal decoupling controller. The proposed controller based on the Two Degree-of-Freedom configuration considers both the performance of controller and decoupling properties. A minimal set of assumptions for existence of the decoupling controller formula is described in the state space formulas. The decoupling controller parameters are obtained from LMI methods for computational efficiency.

  • In this paper, a suboptimal homing guidance law for the homing missiles with an impact angle constraint is presented. Unlike general LQ optimal control, the aided loop ensuring some degrees of freedom for the constraint is introduced. Then an optimal feedback loop in consideration of the aided loop is designed by using Schwartz inequality. The aided loop is synthesized with the optimal control to produce the guidance command. Furthermore, to investigate the characteristics of the guidance law we carry out the comparative studies with other guidance laws. The results of the various computer simulations show the good performance of the proposed law.
