A new failure criterion for concrete, which takes into account the effect of the intermediate principal stress, is proposed. The new criterion, which takes the advantages from both the Mohr-Coulomb and the Willam-Warnke criteria, is linear in the meridian section, while its octahedral section is always smooth and convex. Fitting the triaxial compression data with the proposed criterion shows the high performance of the new criterion. A new formula for the factor of safety of concrete is defined based on the new failure criterion and it is employed in the stability analysis of the concrete plugs installed in the pilot plant. The new formula for the factor of safety measures the degree of closeness of a stress state to the failure surface in the octahedral plane. Finally, 3-D finite element analyses of pilot plant were carried out to obtain the stress distributions in the plugs. Then, the stress distributions are converted to those of factor of safety by use of the proposed formula. Based on the distribution of factor of safety in the concrete plugs, the stability of the tapered and wedge-shaped plugs is evaluated.

For the large scale reinforced concrete cooling tower shells, the shape imperfection can be introduced due not only to mistakes in the process of construction but also to the long term behavior of concrete. The shape imperfection evokes the additional responses such as displacements and stresses in addition to the design values. In this study, the statistical behavior of the RC cooling tower shell due to the shape imperfection is investigated using the Monte Carlo simulation. The radius of cooling tower and the shell thickness are adopted as the parameters which cause the shape imperfection. The shape imperfection is modeled as a stochastic field rather than the local one of axisymmetric or bulge type of imperfection. The randomness in the radius is shown to be more affecting the structural responses than the randomness in the shell thickness. In addition to the geometrical randomness, the effect of randomness in the modulus of elasticity on the structural response is also investigated and compared with that of the geometrical ones.

An effective algorithm for tracking rigid or non-rigid moving object(s) which segments local moving parts from image sequence in the presence of backgraound motion by camera movenment, predicts the direction of it, and tracks the object is proposed. It requires no camera calibration and no knowledge of the installed position of camera. In order to segment the moving object, feature points configuring the shape of moving object are firstly selected, feature flow field composed of motion vectors of the feature points is computed, and moving object(s) is (are) segmented by clustering the feature flow field in the multi-dimensional feature space. Also, we propose IRMAS, an efficient algorithm that finds the convex hull in order to cinstruct the shape of moving object(s) from clustered feature points. And, for the purpose of robjst tracking the objects whose movement characteristics bring about the abrupt change of moving trajectory, an improved order adaptive lattice structured linear predictor is used.

In this paper, we propose a Geometrical Centroid Contour Distance(GCCD) which is described by shape signature based on contour sequence. The proposed method uses geomertrical relation features instead of the absolute angle based features after it was normalized and aligned with dominant feature of the shape. Experimental result with MPEG-7 CE-Shape-1 Data Set reveals that our method has low time/spatial complexity and scale/rotation robustness than the other methods, showing that the precision of our method is more accurate than the conventional desctiptors. However, performance of the GCCD is limited with concave and complex shaped objects.

Aspheric glass lenses was fabricated by glass molding press(GMP), which is a plano-aspheric convox shape and intended for use as an optical design of 3 megapixel and 2.5 magnifications zoom in a camera phone module. Transcription ratio of form accuracy (PV) as well as resolution properties was measured for evaluation the molded lens. Form accuracy (PV) of the mold surface was $0.127\;{\mu}m$ in an aspheric and $0.168\;{\mu}m$ in a plano, in case of the molded lens it shows $0.205\;{\mu}m$ and $0.223\;{\mu}m$, respectively. Resolution of the molded lens was measured as a MTF[Contrast]. The molded lens shows contrast of 32.9% at 80 1p/mm and the value is similar with contrast of 33% obtained simulation.
We introduce a geometric processing method for freeform surfaces based on high-precision torus patch approximation, a new spatial data structure for efficient geometric operations on freeform surfaces. A torus patch fits the freeform surface with flexibility: it can handle not only positive and negative curvature but also a zero curvature. It is possible to precisely approximate the surface regardless of the convexity/concavity of the surface. Unlike the traditional method, a torus patch easily bounds the surface normal, and the offset of the torus becomes a torus again, thus helps the acceleration of various geometric operations. We have shown that the torus patch's approximation accuracy of the freeform surface is high by measuring the upper bound of the two-sided Hausdorff distance between the freeform surface and set of torus patches. Using the method, it can be easily processed to detect an intersection curve between two freeform surfaces and find the offset surface of the freeform surface.
The authors observed the ultrastructure of the pigment cells of the frog, Rana nigromaculata Hallowell, during the hibernation. The specimens from the skin were fixed in 2.5% glutaraldehyde-paraform-aldehyde fixative in phosphate buffer at pH 7.2 prior to fixation in 2% osimium tetroxide, dehydrated in graded ethanol and acetone, embedded in Epon 812 mixture, and sectioned with LKB-ultramicrotome. the ultrathin sections were contrasted with uranyl acetate and lead citrate and observed with a JEOL-100B electron microscope. The results were as follows. In hibernating phase, pigment cells of the frog were consisted of the three kinds of chromatophores (xanthophore, iridophore and melanophore) in their dorsal skin. The traits of these cells were as follows. 1. Xanthophores A. Xanthophores were filled with pterinosomes and carotenoid vesicles. Many ribosomes, a few mitochondria and glycogen particles were dispersed in the cytoplasm. B. Pterinosomes were spherical or ellipsoidal in shape. They were divided into 6 types (type I, type II, type III, type IV, type V, type VI pterinosomes) by the their inner structure and especially, type I, type II, type III pterinosomes were well developed.
To evaluate the performance of ultrasound imaging system, we investigated the change of spatial resolution according to changing sonic velocity change parameter provided by ultrasound equipment. Ultrasound phantom images were obtained using a 3.0 ~ 5.0 MHz convex transducer in an ultrasound diagnostic device used at a medical institution located at Iksan. N-365 multi-purpose ultrasound phantom was used to measure longitudinal distance measurement accuracy and longitudinal and transverse resolution. In the same manner, the sonic velocity of the ultrasound equipment was changed from 1580 m/sec to 1400 m/sec in six steps, and the full width at half maximum(FWHM) was measured using the image J program to determine whether the measured values were different. As a result, lateral resolution was measured from 1.91 mm to 5.3 mm according to the speed change, and the smallest FWHM was 1.91 mm at 1420 m/sec. The axial resolution was measured from 1.03 mm to 1.14 mm according to the speed change, and the smallest FWHM was 1.03 mm at 1400 m/sec. The slower the sound velocity of the ultrasound equipment, the shorter the length of longitudinal measurement.

This study investigated the temperature-salinity spatio-temporal variability around the Ulleung-do Island (UI) by using CTD profiles obtained by the ARGO floats far the period of Oct.,2003 to Aug.,2005. The waterbody in the upper 700 m around the UI could be classified into five water masses, which is consistent to traditional water characteristics in the East Sea. In the upper surface layer, the temperature and salinity in fall season became even lower than those properties in the summer time. The East Sea Intermediate Water (ESIW) characterized by the salinity minimum layer shows the range of potential temperature between 1 to $5^{\circ}C$ and salinity lower than 34.06 psu. The ESIW lies approximately at 265 m depth with average thickness of 175 m. This thickness of the ESIW continues to be relatively uniform regardless of spatio-temporal space. However, the depth of the ESIW shows vertical variation influenced by the Ulleung warm eddy (UWE). Since the UWE lies in the upper layer, the Upper Portion of the Japan Sea Proper. Water (UPJSPW) is also affected to show the vertical variation. The influence extorted by the UWE reached down to 700 m depth in terms of temperature. The CTD profiles obtained with the high sampling rate by ARCO floats over two-year period provided with very useful and detailed informations in investigating the spatio-temporal variability In the study area.
The primary purpose of this study is to estimate the structure of Byeongpungsadaseok (屛風莎臺石) and Nanganseok (欄干石) in Geonwonneung (建元陵) and Heonneung (獻陵), which were built in the early of 15th century, based on the Annals of King Sejong. In addition, the ultimate purpose of this study is to reveal structural changes and their significance by comparing the differences with the contents of the dismantlement survey. Geonwonneung, Jereung(齊陵), and Heonneung were repaired at the same time in 1442, and the structural changes were the similar. The purpose of the repair in 1442 was to prevent water from flowing into the underground palace with smooth drainage. As a result of estimating the structure of Geonwonneung and Heonneung according to the records of the Annals of King Sejong, it was created in a very similar form to the Hyeonneung and Jeongneung of Goryeo. And it was clearly recognized that the Royal Tomb of Goryeo was followed. However, as the structure was improved in 1442, the unique characteristics of the Royal Tomb of the Joseon Dynasty were formed. First is the appearance of the Bokbuhyeong lime (覆釜形石灰, which is a convex roof on the Byeongpungsadaseok that serves to prevent rainwater from penetrating into the burial mound. It also plays a role in connecting and fixing the Manseok (滿石) and the Inseok (引石), which are the upper structures of the Sadaseok (莎臺石). Second, the Bakseok (薄石) between the nanganseok and the sadaseok has been transformed into the Sangseok (裳石) with a slope. This plays a role in protecting the inner stone chamber by expanding the length of the bakseok, which forms an overall slope, like the eaves of the roof. After both of these features were first attempted in 1442, they were applied to all Royal Tombs of the Joseon Dynasty and became unique features of these Royal Tombs.
