The effect of exposure times on the aging characteristics of carbon fiber/epoxy composite ring specimen was evaluated using an accelerating aging tester. Combined exposure conditions, such as temperature, moisture, and ultraviolet, were applied up to 3000 hours. Tensile properties and flexural properties including the effect of curvature were evaluated on the specimens subject to various exposure times through a material testing system. Their aging surfaces were observed through a scanning electron microscope. According to the results, tensile modulus was little affected by the exposure times. However, tensile strength, at the early stage of the exposure times, increased due to physical aging and curing reaction, but tensile strength slightly decreased due to degradation as the exposure times increased. The flexural modulus and flexural strength increased at the early stage of the exposure times, but slightly decreased as the exposure times increased. Aging surfaces of the specimens examined using the scanning electron microscope revealed a different morphology in various exposure times and provided useful information for identifying the degradation in mechanical properties of the composite subject to various exposure times.

In this study, salt-water immersion tests were experimentally performed for up to 12 months to investigate the hygrothermal effect of salt-water environments on the mechanical properties of carbon/epoxy composites. The composites were manufactured by laminating prepregs composed of carbon plain-woven fabric and epoxy resin. The specimens were subjected to temperatures of 35, 55, and $75^{\circ}C$ while being exposed to the salt-water environments. Mechanical test results showed that the tensile modulus and tensile strength decreased at a small rate, and the compressive modulus and compressive strength decreased at a relatively larger rate, as the exposure temperature and time increased. The rate of decrease in compressive strength became larger as the exposure temperature became higher. This is because a higher environmental temperature accelerates the salt-water uptake; this, in turn, reduces the compressive strength more rapidly.

The aim of this study is to fabricate composite bone plates consisted of unidirectional biodegradable glass fibers (BGF) and polylactic acid (PLA) and evaluate the performance of the composite bone plates according to the temperature ($50.0^{\circ}C$) of PBS (Phosphate Buffer Saline) solution and exposure time (0~3 weeks). Mechanical characteristics, such as bending stiffness, flexural strength, water uptake and mass loss, were investigated and the results showed that mechanical properties of the plates decreased as soaking duration increased due to loss of composite material.

In this study, a series of degradation test for structural adhesives was performed to investigate the possibility of replacement of the alternative adhesives to the conventional adhesives. Four types of the adhesives were exposed to combined environmental conditions over 1000 hours at an accelerated aging tester, which can simulate natural weather conditions such temperature, moisture and ultraviolet. Mechanical and chemical properties of the adhesives were evaluated through material testing system and FT/IR spectrometer. According to the results, the conventional adhesives can be replaced by the alternative adhesives because the alternative adhesives were more stable to environmental conditions rather than the conventional adhesives.
Geotextile composites to improve the resistance to the application environment were manufactured of recycled polyester geotextile with carbon black as ultraviolet stabilizer and polypropylene geotextile by needle-punching method. Mechanical properties, ultraviolet resistance and chemical stability were evaluated. Retention ratio of tensile properties of polypropylene geotextiles were decreased about 50% with the exposed condition by ultraviolet but those of geotextile composites showed the slightly decrease. Geotextile composites which have larger weights of recycled polyester geotextile were more stable against ultraviolet. For chemical stability, the changes of tensile strength values of geotextile composites were in the range of -20~+10% at the various chemical conditions.
Carbon/epoxy composite bipolar plate (BP) is a BP that is likely to replace existing graphite bipolar plate of vanadium redox flow cell (VRFB) due to its high mechanical properties and productivity. Multi-functional carbon/epoxy composite BP requires graphite coating or additional surface treatment to reduce interfacial contact resistance (ICR). However, the expanded graphite coating has the disadvantage of having low durability under VRFB operating conditions, and the surface treatments incur additional costs. In this work, an excessive resin absorption method is developed, which uniformly removes the resin rich area on the surface of the BP to expose carbon fibers by applying polyester fabric. This method not only reduces ICR by exposing carbon fibers to BP surfaces, but also forms a unique ditch pattern that can effectively hold carbon felt electrodes in place. The acidic environmental durability, mechanical properties, and gas permeability of the developed carbon/epoxy composite BP are experimentally verified.
ESR spectrum change has been investigated for the PECVD deposited a-C : H films exposed in the atmosphere. Though depending on the deposition conditions, it was observed that generally ESR signal height decreased and linewidth increased as the exposure time increased. The spin density decreased down to 40-80% depending on samples. The decrease of spin density of the a-C : H films in the air was attributed to permeation of moisture into the films and subsequent migration and redistribution of hydrogens. And the ESR signal height increased again and the linewidth decreased when the a-C : H samples were placed again in the vacuum, which was attributed to oxygens extracted from the samples. Consequently, the ESR spectrum change for the a-C : H films exposed in the air was regarded to be associated with the decrease of spin density as well as the permeation of oxygens into films.

The stack effect in high-rise buildings is expected more significant at nights in winter due to the large temperature difference between the inside and outside of the buildings. However, the existence of large openings such as natural ventilators on the floor may effect the position of neutral plane, smoke spread at fire and thus obstruct the door openings for rescue. In this paper, the vertical and horizontal pressure distribution with different openings of natural smoke ventilators was experimentally analyzed by investigating pressure differentials.
