Measuring Technologies of Traffic Conflict Risk between Vehicles and Pedestrians (차량-보행자간의 상충위험도 측정 기술 연구)

  • In Korea, traffic accidents between pedestrians and vehicles in 2015 account for 38.8% of all accidents. This study proposes a system design that can measure the risk of conflict between a vehicle and a pedestrian. Firstly the systemdetect and estimate the position, speed, and directional data of the vehicle and the pedestrian. And then it estimate the conflict point between a vehicle and a pedestrian. The risk of conflict is quantified by estimating the pedestrian safety margin (PSM), which is the time difference between the arrival of the pedestrian at the crossing point to the point of conflict and the vehicle approaching the point. In this system each data is acquired through an external monitoring based evaluation module and an individual wearing module. In the future, such a system can be used for decision making such as the design of road hazard improvement facilities and the designation of the elderly protection area.

광안리 도시공간의 해양문화공간 발전방안에 관한 연구

  • 부산 광안리 일대는 해수욕장과 광안대교 그리고 불꽃축제와 해양레저센터 등을 두루 갖춘 국제적인 관광명소이다. 특히 김해국제공항으로부터 부산에 진입하는 경우 공항에서 연결된 자동차 전용도로가 광안대교에 연결되어 있기 때문에 외지에서 볼 때, 가장먼저 부산의 바다를 보게 되는 장소이기도 하다. 따라서 광안리 도시공간은 바다와 내륙의 관광명소가 어우러진다는 부산의 정체성을 잘 보여주는 장소로서 그 의미가 더욱 크다. 그러나 광안리 도시공간이 국제적인 명소로 확고하게 정착되기 위해서는 보완해야 할 공공디자인적 요소들이 있다. 그것은 도시공간의 결절점과 확장성, 광안리를 향한 보행자의 접근로, 해변공간의 구조, 건축물들의 파사드와 같은 것들이다. 본 연구는 이러한 요소들을 정리하고 분석하여 광안리 도시공간의 업그레이드를 위한 방향을 제시하고자 한다. 이를 통하여 부산의 대표적인 관광명소인 광안리와 그 일대의 도시공간이 향후 세계적인 규모의 행사 수용은 물론 장기적인 발전이 가능해지는 초석이 될 것이다.

The Guidelines for Station layouts and Their Assessments in Railroad Transfer Centers (철도 환승센터의 시설배치기준 및 평가방안)

  • The mass transit networks in Korea, such as buses, metro and subway, are co-related and the number of transfer points, in which a lot of pedestrian movement is generated, are rising. The functions of the transfer centers, in which several travel modes cross at a point, have to include convenience and comfort for pedestrians using the transfer centers, and such functions can make transit a more attractive travel option and thus eventually contribute to increases in ridership. However, the guidelines for station layouts and their assessments in transfer stations are not suggested so far. So the pedestrian pattern data (pedestrian walking distances and times, pedestrian approaching distances and times, pedestrian walking paths in the inside of stations) was collected and analyzed. Based on the results of the analysis, the ways to measure the quality of comfort for those who using transfer facilities were suggested using the times that pedestrians consume to transfer from a travel mode to another. The walking time of pedestrians at the inside of stations was also measured by pre-selected pedestrian pathways as the guidelines for station layout assessment in transfer facilities.

An Effectiveness Analysis of pedestrian crosswalk signal on roundabout (회전교차로의 보행신호 설치효과 분석)

  • Roundabouts have been operated in Europe, America and Australia since the 1970s, and many relevant researches continually was carried out. Though many studies regarding roundabout have been recently conducted in korea, most of them have focused on its operational safety and efficiency. Moreover, roundabout design guideline did not define a clear criteria related to pedestrian in roundabout, but seldom investigate the influences of pedestrian on crosswalk. In this study, we seek ways to operate the pedestrian crosswalk signal on roundabout maximizing their operational effects in exceptional case such as rush hour or intersection near the special facilities. We proved that roundabout signal operation is effective under certain circumstances in according to the number of pedestrian, and suggested the optimal signal timing plan for signalized roundabouts. For pursuing the above, we conducted the simulation test using the VISSIM model. The results show that the operational effectiveness of signalized roundabout was evaluated to be better than non-signalized roundabout in specific pedestrian volume condition. In addition, those results are confirmed using simulation analysis conducted on the real roundabout.

Analysis on Effectiveness of Transit Mall by Visitor Perception (시민 만족도 분석을 통한 대중교통전용지구 도입 평가 연구)

  • The main objective of study was to analyze the effectiveness of transit mall. To this end, this study compared operational status of transit malls in operation (Daegu, Seoul and Busan). For the city of Busan where the latest transit mall became operational in 2015, a discriminant model was proposed to determine user satisfaction/dissatisfaction. The outcomes of comparative study showed that each city has different operational focus - Seoul has focus on traffic demand management, Busan has focus on walking environment, and Daegu has focus on accessibility to public transportation. Also, the discriminant model indicated that market sentiment, convenience of bus service, traffic accident risk, number of pedestrian, market user number have effects on user satisfaction. These results implied that, to improve user satisfaction, measures for market revitalization such as opening events and forming consultative groups need to be prepared and traffic conditions should also be improved through expansion of curfew time, linkage with subway station.

Policy Implications of Creative-Based Strategies and Culture-Art Creative Urban Policy in Japan: Focusing on Kanazawa and Yokohama (일본의 문화예술창조도시정책과 창조기반전략의 정책적 함의: 가나자와와 요코하마를 중심으로)

  • This study examines the characteristics of creative city policy for Japanese culture and arts creation cities and finds the implications of culture and arts city policy by reexamining the examples of Kanazawa and Yokohama from the viewpoint of creation-based strategy of the city. The policy implications of creative-based strategies are as follows. First, in terms of the governance of the creative-based strategy, Kanazawa conducted governance through a citizen-led cooperative network, while Yokohama promoted creative city policy through a local government-led cooperative network. Second, The mechanism of action of the endogenous resources of Kanazawa and Yokohama was different. Third, the territorial embeddedness in Kanazawa and Yokohama was easy for pedestrians to access to the customer center in the creation core area. Both cities have good access to domestic and international demand, and amenity is well established.

Psychometric Analysis for Designing Elderly Customized Walking Assist Device (고령자 맞춤형 보행보조서비스 설계를 위한 심리측정 분석)

  • In accordance to rapid aging of population, the accidents of elderly pedestrian and pedestrian safety are becoming very important issues. In terms of smartphone technologies, older people are increasingly looking for useful and friendly ICT services that which can add a value on their silver life. This paper introduced a new IT-based service for elderly walking assist using a smart-phone accompanied by a wearable watch. We describe the functional requirements and a systems architecture model with an interface between a smart-phone and wearable watch. Moreover, this study attempted to verify what services are needed and to estimate elderly pedestrians' WTP (willingness to pay) for IT-based walking assistance device. A total of 189 elderly pedestrians were randomly surveyed through face-to-face interviews. The questionnaire consisted of 3 categories: (1) questions pertaining to socio-economic status, (2) 12 questions regarding walking attitudes, and (3) a question to measure WTP. With this gathered data, factor analysis and path model estimating were conducted. The results identified the elderly user requirements and the use-value of new innovative products for IT-based walking assistance services by two groups(latent elderly and elderly). The modeling result shows that elderly's service preference would increase the possibilities for the commercialization of IT-based walking device with improving their walking safety.

The Effect of Neighborhood Environmental Perception on Park Use for Health Improvement - The Case of Suseong-gu in Daegu City - (거주지 주변 환경에 대한 인식이 건강증진 목적의 공원이용에 미치는 영향 - 대구광역시 수성구를 대상으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of neighborhood environmental perception on park use for health. The study area is focused on neighborhood parks in Suseong-gu, Daegu city. The analysis results are based on questionnaires of 303 respondents. According to the results, park use for health improvement was significantly associated with the perceptions of accessibility to a marketplace, availability of public transit, accessibility to the park, enough sidewalks, number of crosswalks, and athletic population. The probability of park use increased by 2.326 times as the satisfaction of accessibility to the park increased. Also, greater athletic population, fewer crosswalks, and more sidewalks lead to increase of park use by 1.701, 1.617, and 1.642 times, respectively. Therefore, it is important to increase the available neighborhood parks around residences and to develop exercise programs that people can use continuously in order to vitalize park use for health improvement. Also, it is necessary to improve the convenience of walking such as development of pedestrian streets or malls between residences and parks.

A Study on the Changing Connectivity of Pedestrain Network Using Space Syntax - Focussing on Restoration of Cheonggyecheon - (Spacee Syntax를 이용한 보행자 네트워크 연결성 변화연구 - 청계천복원사업을 중심으로 -)

  • This study examines the consequent impact which Cheonggyechoen restoration project of Seoul makes on pedestrian network structure around the inner city, especially in terms of sustainable developments and the city's balanced development. It identifies variation of Global Integration and Local Integration of the pedestrian networks which is compared by before and after conditions with east-west and south-north walking axis by using Space Syntax. The results show respectively different set of Global and Local Integration. First, Global Integration shows high performance along the east-west axis, while pedestrian spatial networking is balancing through Donhwamunno and Samillo. Second, Local Integration illustrates both performance along both the east-west axis and the south-north axis after restoration of network. It is primarily concentrated in Taepyeongno$\sim$Samillo section(business and commercial-centered) before the restoration. In addition, total integration is holistically improved while the networking in Samillo$\sim$Baeogaegil section(the instrument shopping streets) if almost same as one another Moreover, in Baeogaegil$\sim$Dongdaemun Stadium section(market-centered), the connectivity of Cheonggyechoenro is improved after the restoration. All in all, Cheonggyechoen restoration project of Seoul allows traffics to be equally accessible from the east-west axis and the south-north axis and contributes to the connectivity improvement of the east-west axis as well as the south-north axis.
