  • Four series of fiber reinforced concrete deep beams without shear reinforcement were tested to determine their cracking shear strengths and ultimate shear capacities. Results of tests on 20 reinforced concrete deep beams (including 16 containing steel fibers) are reported. Three parameters were varied in the study, namely, the concrete compressive strength, volume fraction of fibers, and the shear span to depth ratio. The effects of fiber incorporation on failure modes, deflections. strains, cracking shear strength, and ultimate shear strength have been examined. Resistance to shear stresses have been found to be improved by the inclusion of fibers. Based on these investigations, a method of computing the shear stress of steel fiber reinforced concrete deep beam is suggested. The comparisons between computed values and experimentally observed values are shown to validate the proposed theoretical treatment.

  • This study investigated experimentally the tensile behavior of polyetylene fiber-reinforced cementless composite. Four types of polyetylene fiber-reinforced cementless composite were designed. The water to binder ratio was 0.30-0.38, and the amount of polyetylene fiber was 1.75 vol%. A series of experiments including uniaxial tension, density, and compression tests were performed to evaluate the performance of the composites. From the test results, it was exhibited that the composite has superior tensile performance such as high tensile strength and tensile strain capacity compared with other types of composites.

  • Even though a lot of laboratory and field tests for asphalt pavements using geosynthetics have been conducted recently, any rational and systematic analysis for the economic efficiency of the asphalt pavement systems reinforced by using geosynthetics has not been proposed yet. In this study, the economic analysis considering the traffic characteristics for the glass fiber sheet reinforced asphalt pavement was performed using the Life Cycle Cost Analysis(LCCA) which is commonly used for the economic analysis technique. The economic efficiency for the glass fiber sheet reinforcement and the traffic characteristics was examined by applying the test results from the literature review to the economic analysis model.

  • This paper presented a mechanism of the soil structure reinforced by geosynthetics, in which the reinforcing mechanism is treated as the effect arising from the reinforcement process to prevent the dilative deformation of soil under shearing. A full-scale in-situ model test was carried out by introducing the prestress method to enhance the geosynthetic-reinforcement, and the prestress effect through the FEM is also examined. The elasto-plastic model and the initial parameters needed in the FEM are presented. Moreover, the theoretical prediction is compared with the experimental results, which were obtained by a full-scale in-situ model test.

  • The major pavement distress types found in the domestic roadways include rutting, fatigue cracking, and reflection cracking which are results of the environment and repeated traffic loads. These distresses usually occur before pavements approach their design life, and therefore, a significant amount of national budget is spent for maintenance of roadway pavements. The purpose of this study is to establish a geosynthetics-asphalt pavement system. For the study, wheel tracking tests are conducted to analyze the controlling effect of geosynthetics on rutting of asphalt pavement. On the basis of these works, the reinforcement effect of geosynthetics on the rutting of the asphalt pavement is clarified and deformation characteristics of geosynthetics-asphalt mixture is examined.

  • When assessing crack initiation of fiber reinforced concrete, usually tensile strength or flexural strength is becomes indicator, but also depend on the curing effect take place during the production of specimen. In general, after conducting concrete specimen is cured by water at temperature $20{\pm}3^{\circ}C$ in laboratory, and accomplished the assessment of strength, but most of concrete structure is kept in drying condition after moist curing through the prescribed period. However, unlike these trends that technological advances have been made, influence of the difference of curing method on crack strength is not yet clear. Therefore, in this study, it is examined on the effect of curing methods affecting the mechanical property of fiber reinforced concrete, especially crack strength.

  • Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) sheets have been widely used to retrofit and rehabilitate RC structures, while in case of retrofitting steel structures, there are no codes and researches. It stems from configuration of member and characteristics of bonding behavior. This study focused on the static behavior of steel beams reinforcement by AFRP sheets. The main objective of the experimental programme was the evaluation of the force transfer mechanism, the increment of the beam load carrying capacity and the bending stiffness. A bending test was conducted on a H-shaped steel beam, with aramid FRP sheets bonded to its flanges. The mid-span deflection and the strain from three points along AFRP sheets were recorded Test results exhibit that the increment of the load-carrying capacity with reference to a mid-span deflection level of 15 mm(1/125mm of the clear span) was equal to 9.4% and for the two layers case, an elastic stiffness increment is slightly higher than one layer case.

  • In recent years, fiber reinforced polymer(FRP) plates have shown a great promise as an alternative to steel plates for reinforced concrete beam rehabilitation. Reinforced concrete beams strengthened with externally bonded FRP sheets to the tension face can exhibit ultimate flexural strengths several times greater than their original strength if their bond strength is enough. Debonding failure, however, may occur before the strengthened beam can achieve its enhanced flexural strength. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the debonding failure strength of FRP-strengthened reinforced concrete beams. An analytical procedure for calculating debonding load between concrete and strengthening FRP is presented. Based on the local bond stress-slip relationship in the previous studies, uniform bond stress is assumed on the effective bond length. The analytical expressions are developed from linear elastic theory and statistical analyses of experimantal results reported in the literature. The proposed method is verified by comparisons with experimental results reported in the previous researches.

  • In this study, the effect of natural jute fiber volume fraction on the bond characteristics of polyolefin based macro fiber in natural jute fiber reinforced cement composites, including bond strength, interface toughness, and microstructure analysis are presented. The experimental results on polyolefin based macro fiber pullout test of different conditions are reported. Natural jute fiber volume fractions ranging from 0.1% to 0.2% are used in the mix proportions. Pullout tests are conducted to measure the bond characteristics of polyolefin based macro fiber from natural jute fiber reinforced cement composites. Test results are found that the incorporation of natural jute fiber can effectively enhance the polyolefin based macro fiber-cement matrix interfacial properties. The bond strength and interface toughness between polyolefin based macro fiber and natural jute fiber reinforced cement composites increases with the volume fraction of natural jute fiber. The microstructural observation confirms the findings on the interface bond mechanism drawn from the fiber pullout test results.
