This study presents the application of the numerical and analytical technique to simulate the Load Distribution Ratio (LDR) and to define axial stiffness on reinforcing pile foundation ($K_{vr}$) in vertical extension remodeling structure. The main objective of this study was to investigate the LDR between existing piles and reinforcing piles. Therefore, to analyze the LDR, 3D FEM analysis was performed as variable for elastic modulus, pile end-bearing condition, raft contacts, and relative position of reinforcing pile in a group. Also, using the axial stiffness ($K_{ve}$) of existing piles, the axial stiffness of reinforcing pile was defined by 3D approximate computer-based method, YSPR (Yonsei Piled Raft). In addition $K_{vr}$ was defined by reducing the $K_{ve}$considering the degradation of the existing piles.
In this study, the axial stiffness of reinforcing piles (Kvr) for the vertical extension remodeling structures was estimated through 3D finite element analysis. In the computation of the minimum required axial stiffness of reinforcing piles, proposed maximum axial stiffness of old and deteriorated existing piles (Kve) based on theoretical and experimental approaches will be applied. Through this, the required increase rate of axial stiffness of reinforcing piles in order to support the increased structural loading was proposed for end-bearing and friction piles by different slenderness ratio (L/D). The numerical model was validated by comparing the computed results with actual field measurements. Based on the computed results, it was concluded that the end-bearing reinforcing pile needs 44% - 67% increase in axial stiffness to deal with the deterioration of existing piles and support the additional structural load due to vertical extension remodeling.
To find out the most efficient arrangement of root piles reinforcing sandy soil under a strip footing, a series of model tests for the patten A of by R.H. Bassett and N.C. Last are carried out. In the model test, the variables adopted are a pile length, longitudinal spacing, and the number of rows of piles. According to the results, the most efficient longitudinal spacing of piles is six times of a pile diameter. When the pile length exceeds five times of footing width, no further increase of reinforcing effect is observed. In the pattern A, piles of second row exhibit the largest reinforcing effect and the fifth row show no significant reinforcing effect on the soil.
Recently, there are increasing technical needs for foundation retrofit project such as vertical extension of apartment building. This paper focuses on the load distribution characteristics of existing and reinforcing piles when reinforcing pile is installed to the existing foundation. Allowable bearing load was initially applied on the foundation slab supported with four existing piles and then, one reinforcing pile was installed at the center of foundation slab and additional load was applied. The experimental results showed the Load Distribution Ratio (LDR) between existing and reinforcing piles converged after the applied load exceeded allowable bearing capacity of all piles. Laboratory tests were also performed for the cases of 60 %, 80 %, 100 % unloading level of allowable bearing load. After unloading step, one reinforcing pile was installed at the center of foundation slab and additional load was applied. The results showed that reloading load level at which LDR between existing and reinforcing piles converged decreased as the amount of unloading load increased.

In the current work, a series of three-dimensional finite element analysis was carried out to understand the behaviour of pile when the tunnel passes through the lower part of a single pile or group piles. At the current study, the numerical analysis analysed the results regarding the ground reinforcement condition between the tunnel and pile foundation. In the numerical modelling, several key issues, such as the pile settlements, the axial pile forces, the shear stresses and the total displacements near the tunnel have been thoroughly analysed. The pile head settlements of the single pile with the maximum level of reinforcement decreased by about 16% compared to the pile without ground reinforcement. Furthermore, the maximum axial force of the single pile with the maximum level of ground reinforcement experienced a 30% reduction compared to the pile without reinforcement. It has been found that the angle of ground reinforcement in the transverse direction affects the pile behaviour more so than the length of the ground reinforcement in the longitudinal direction. On the other hand, in the case of the pile group with the reinforced pile cap, the ground displacement near the pile tip appears to be similar to the corresponding ground displacement without reinforcement. However, it was found that the pile cap near the pile head greatly restrained the pile head movement and hence the axial pile force increased by about 2.5 times near the pile top compared to the piles in other analysis conditions. The behaviour of the single pile and group piles, depending on the amount of ground reinforcement, has been extensively examined and analysed by considering the key features in great details.
For the interests in the economical and safe design of foundation system, the concern on the piled raft or disconnected piled raft foundation system is increasing now. In this study, the behavior and the effects of the disconnected piled raft foundation not studied actively in this country were examined using the triaxial compression tests in place of laboratory model tests. The triaxial test samples were prepared with Jumunjin standard sand and the carbon rods, which simulate the ground soil and piles respectively. After the sample in which carbon rods were arranged was laid inside the triaxial chamber, the confining pressure was applied and then loading test was conducted. To analyze the reinforcing effects of the disconnected piled raft foundation, a few number of tests were carried out by changing the number, the diameter and the length of the model piles. As a result of this study, in the disconnected piled raft foundation system, even though the number of pile is few and the diameter of pile is small, the settlement of the foundation system decreased greatly.
One of the construction methods applied as a pier foundation type is a single type cast-in-place pile. In applying a pile bent system as a foundation type, the main concern in designing can be said to secure the lateral bearing capacity of pile structure in system. In addition, to increase the rigidity of the pile structure, a method of increasing the lateral bearing capacity by reinforcing the pile structure with a casing has been used. However, although the reinforcing effect and appropriate reinforcing length of casing may vary depending on the soil conditions, there is insufficient studies on this, and for this reason, the entire pile structure in a pile bent system is reinforced with a casing, in the field. In addition, if the length of the entire pile is reinforced with a casing, it may lead to delays in construction and increase in construction costs. That is, in order to more effectively reinforce the pile structure with a casing, it is necessary to study the lateral bearing characteristics of the reinforced pile structure in system. And it should be determined the appropriate reinforcing length of the casing from the evaluated bearing characteristics. Therefore, in this study, the lateral bearing characteristics of piles applied with the reinforcing length of casing for each condition were evaluated through a numerical analysis. And, based on the analysis results, the appropriate reinforcing length of casing was proposed. As a result of the study, it was found that in order to effectively increase the lateral bearing capacity of pile structure, the reinforcing length of casing should be applied twice the influence range of the bending behavior of the pile, 1/β.

In this study, three-dimensional finite element analysis was used to analyze the behavior of existing and reinforcing piles according to the pile support conditions for vertical extension remodeling. Cap support conditions (group pile, piled raft foundation) and pile tip conditions (rock, soil embedment) were considered as factors influencing existing and reinforcing piles behavior. For the quantitative analysis of existing and reinforcing piles, the displacement, load distribution ratio, and axial force by depth according to the analysis stage were analyzed. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that the largest settlement occurred in the reinforcing pile due to the pre-loading method. In particular, a large amount of settlement occurred in group piles regardless of the embedment conditions. In the piled raft foundation, it was confirmed that the displacement and load distribution ratio of existing piles and reinforcing piles were reduced due to the influence of the raft. The axial force by depth showed a difference between group pile and piled raft foundation, which appears to be a major factor affecting displacement and load distribution ratio. Based on the numerical analysis results, it was confirmed that cap support conditions and pile tip embedment conditions should be considered in the design of pile foundations for vertical extension remodeling.
The typical bonding methods which connect steel pipe pile and spread footing is bolted bonding method using +type cover plate for reinforcing a head of steel pipe pile. In this paper, stability of spread footing in pile foundation have been evaluated by loading test of +type cover plate for reinforcing a head of pile and hook type bonding method. The presents results from a series of pilot model test on vertically loaded piles foundation of bolted bonding method and hook type bonding method, pile foundation is identified to safety due to pile foundation exceed 8.5~21% which more than yield stress of steel pipe pile. As the results of horizontal loading tests, peak load of piles foundation of hook type bonding method has estimated in 41.1tonf and it was exceed about 33% which more than pile foundation of bolted bonding method.

In the current work, a series of three-dimensional finite element analyses have been carried out to understand the behaviour of pre-existing single piles and pile groups to adjacent Shield TBM tunnelling by considering various reinforcement conditions. The numerical modelling has analysed the effect of the pile cutting, ground reinforcement and pile cap reinforcement. The analyses concentrate on the ground settlements, the pile head settlements, the axial pile forces and the shear stress transfer mechanism at the pile-soil interface. In all cases of the pile tips supported by weathered rock, the distributions of shear stresses presented a similar trend. Also, when the pile tips were cut, tensile forces or compressive forces were induced on the piles depending on the relative positions of the piles. Furthermore, when the pile tips are supported by weathered rock, approximately 70% of the load is supported by surface friction, and only the remaining 30% is supported by the pile tip. Furthermore the final settlement of the piles without reinforcement showed approximately 70% more settlement than the piles for which ground reinforcement is considered. It has been found that the ground settlements and the pile settlements are heavily affected by the pile cutting and reinforcement conditions. The behaviour of the single pile and group piles, depending on the pile cutting, conditions of ground and pile cap reinforcement, has been extensively examined and analysed by considering the key features in great details.
