Objectives: Pig farmers are known as the high risk group for the zoonoses, but the study for pig farmers to zoonoses has been rare in Korea. So we surveyed the awareness on zoonoses among pig farmers to suggest directions for education. Methods: We visited four regional spots (Gyeongsangnam-do, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Jeollanam-do, and Chungcheongnam-do) where the self education programs of Korea pork producers were convened. We conducted a questionnaire survey of the general, work-related characteristics and the awareness on zoonoses among 278 pig farmers. Results: The awareness rate of zoonoses itself, brucellosis, tuberculosis and salmonellosis were 52.9%, 85.6%, 87.8%, 89.6%, respectively. The awareness rate of the content related to zoonoses, "Human can be infected by the disease of pig", was 46.9%. Awareness rate of zoonoses tended to increase as the school career, and awareness rate of salmonellosis tended to increase as working duration of pig raising. Conclusions: The pig is the principal reservoir of zoonoses. Therefore, effective working guidelines to prevent zoonoses for pig farmers must be developed and an educational program on zoonoses is needed for pig farmers. Furthermore, publicity activities about the prevention of zoonoses are needed for high-risk groups.

This study was conducted to determine the appropriateness of systemic radiation exposure control for students in clinical practice by comparing radiation exposure in radiography employees at different stations of a hospital with that of students conducting clinical practice using identical stations. Overall, 121 students who conducted clinical practice in the department of radiology area of C university hospital from July 2014 to August 2014 and 62 workers working in the same medical facility (47 in the department of radiology, 8 in the department of radiation oncology, 7 in the department of nuclear medicine) were investigated. The radiation exposure experienced by students was measured for 8 weeks, which is the duration of the clinical practice. Additionally, radiation exposure of workers were classified into 4 groups, department of radiology, department of radiation oncology, and department of nuclear medicine was compared. Dose was measured with OSLD and differences among groups were identified by ANOVA followed by Duncan's multiple range test. Among employees, those in the department of radiology, oncology and nuclear medicine were exposed depth doses of $0.127{\pm}0.331mSv$, $0.01{\pm}0.003mSv$, and $0.431{\pm}0.205mSv$, respectively, while students were exposed to $0.143{\pm}0.136mSv$. Additionally, workers in the department of radiology, oncology and nuclear medicine were exposed to surface doses of $0.131{\pm}0.331mSv$, $0.009{\pm}0.003mSv$, and $0.445{\pm}0.198mSv$, respectively, while students were exposed to $0.151{\pm}0.14mSv$, which was significantly different in both doses (p < 0.01). The average dose that students received is higher than that of the other groups (except for nuclear medicine workers), indicating that further improvements must be made in systemic controls for individual radiation exposure by including the students as subjects of management for protection from radiation.

The purpose of this study was to examine violence response, burnout, and job satisfaction according to violent episodes of emergency room workers. Methods : This Study was a descriptive survey design using convenience sampling. This study was exempt from needing an IRB approval. There were 167 emergency room workers, who agreed to participate in this study, and took a self-report questionnaire between July and August 2015. SPSS 21.0 version was used for descriptive analysis, frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, independent t-test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression. The major findings of this study were as follows: 1) 84.4% of participant experienced violent episodes. The frequency of verbal violence was highest. Violent attackers were patients and guardians with drunken state. The time of violence episodes was usually during the night. Violent experience of doctors and nurses was very high. 2) There were significant differences in the emotional response according to violent episodes (t=2.528, p=0.12) 3) The correlation between \response and burnout was statistically significant, and indicates a high positive correlation (r=.616, p=<.001). The correlation between violence response and job satisfaction was statistically significant, indicating a negative correlation (r=-.512, p=<.001). There was a negative correlation between burnout and job satisfaction with statistical significance (r=-.568, p=<.001). 4) Significant factors influencing job satisfaction were emotional response to violence and burnout. Conclusion: The findings of this study provide basic information for the strategies of preventing violence, decreasing burnout, and improving job satisfaction by developing a violence management program.
The purpose of this study is to empirically analyze the impact of role stress (role conflict, role ambiguity, and role overload) on career commitment and turnover intention in small and medium-sized hospital workers in Busan. The subjects of the study were 418 nursing and administrative workers engaged in hospitals and general hospitals in Busan. Frequency analysis, correlation analysis, and regression analysis were conducted for empirical analysis. The results of the study are as follows. First, significant differences in some research variables were identified according to gender, age, educational background, marital status, and working years. Depending on the job type, there were significant differences in all variables such as role conflict, role ambiguity, role overload, career commitment, and turnover intention. Second, role stress was found to have a significant negative effect on career commitment and a significant positive effect on turnover intention. Among the role stress, it was confirmed that the role overload had the strongest influence on career commitment and turnover intention. This study is meaningful in that it analyzed the influence of role stress, including workers in all occupations, including nursing jobs, and empirically revealed the meaning of role stress as an explanatory variable of career commitment and turnover intention.

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of implementation of the healthcare accreditation system on patient safety, quality of medical care, organization culture and management performance of convalescent hospitals. Ten hospitals were selected at random from among 36 convalescent hospitals in Daegu that had obtained accreditation until September 2015. To accomplish this, hospital staff were surveyed from 15 February to 25 March, 2016 using a questionnaire with 253 objects. We investigated how the healthcare accreditation system has influenced patient safety, service quality, organization culture and performance of hospital management. The change in the treatment support system showed the highest score of 3.93 among quality change and medical service items, while that of personnel source culture showed the highest score of 3.78 points among organization culture items, and that of internal process view, study and growth view showed the highest score of 3.71 among management performance items. Multiple regression analysis revealed that factors positively changing hospital management performance were nurses, employees and managers, basic value systems, organization culture, personnel source culture, open system culture, hierarchical culture, and production oriented culture. The quality of patient safety and medical care was positively influenced by changes in the quality of convalescent hospitals after implementation of the healthcare accreditation system. However, among the four types of organizational culture, the financial perspective was relatively low compared to other perspectives.
Purpose: We tested a sample of nuclear medicine workers at Korean healthcare institutions for internal contamination with radioactive isotopes, measuring concentrations and evaluating doses of individual exposure. Materials and Methods: The detection and measurement was performed on urine samples collected from 25 nuclear medicine workers at three large hospitals located in Seoul. Urine samples were collected once a week, 100~200 mL samples were gathered up to 6~10 times weekly. A high-purity germanium detector was used to measure gamma radiations in urine samples for the presence of radioactive isotopes. Based on the detection results, we estimated the amounts of intake and committed effective doses using IMBA software. In cases where committed effective doses could not be adequately evaluated with IMBA software, we estimated individual committed effective doses for radionuclides with a very short half life such as $^{99m}Tc$ and $^{123}I$, using the methods recommended by International Atomic Energy Agency. Results: Radionuclides detected through the analysis of urine samples included $^{99m}Tc$, $^{123}I$, $^{131}I$ and $^{201}Tl$, as well as $^{18}F$, a nuclide used in Positron Emission Tomography examinations. The committed effective doses, calculated based on the radionuclide concentrations in urine samples, ranged from 0 to 5 mSv, but were, in the majority of cases, less than 1 mSv. The committed effective dose exceeded 1 mSv in three of the samples, and all three were workers directly handling radioactive sources. No nurses were found to have a committed effective dose in excess of 1 mSv. Conclusions: To improve the accuracy of results, it may be necessary to conduct a long-term study, performed over a time span wide enough to allow the clear determination of the influence of seasonal factors. A larger sample should also help increase the reliability of results. However, as most Korean nuclear medicine workers are currently not necessary to monitored routinely for internal contamination with radionuclides. Notwithstanding, a continuous effort is recommended to reduce any unnecessary exposure to radioactive substances, even if in inconsequential amounts, by regularly surveying workplace environments and frequently monitoring atmospheric concentrations of radionuclides.
This study was aimed to survey the level of service education in the people engaging in medical services and identify the influence of the education on their job performance. This study was conducted from February 10th, 2000 to March 10th, 2000, centering on Seoul and Kyonggi area. A total of 341 questionnaires were distributed for the survey. The result ware as followings: (1) In a question about the satisfaction over general medical services such as the location of medical institutions, medical equipments and devices, and the attitudes of medical personnel, the group with service education marked 4.07 while the group with no education earned 3.97, showing statistically significant difference(p<.05). (2) In the area of medical institutions image, level of medical services and promotion, the group with service education showed 4.01 while the group with no education gained 3.83, also showing statistically significant difference(p<.05). (3) No statistically meaningful difference was revealed in the area of satisfaction for over all medical services such as the contentment about the medical services being provided, rooms for improvement and the adequacy of the number of medical personnel. The group with education acquired 3.32, with the group with no education 3.34. (4) Satisfaction about the education and awareness about medical services were high in the group of dental hygienists and showed a statistically meaningful difference. (5) The average number of education recorded 1.83 and satisfaction over service education inside the hospital was low, registering 3.24. (6) Teamwork among the personnel in the hospital was 3.70, which is relatively high. The fulfillment over given tasks posted 3.56 and the recommendation for medical institutions was low, recording 3.24. (7) The necessity of medical service education for medical personnel gained 4.40, indicating heightened awareness over the need for service education.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the use of hospital, hospitalization, medical service, discharge and power of medical care patients who are concerned about moral hazard. We conducted focus group interview with 3 medical care patients and their families and 5 workers who had worked for more than 4 years in a nursing hospital. The main results and implications are as follows. First, admission to nursing hospitals was mostly based on the linkage between the medical institutions and the competition to attract the patients rather than the choice of the patients. Second, the main cause of the long-term hospitalization of medical assistance patients was the lack of social protection measures such as absences of residence and care giver, although there are factors that cause moral hazard such as low self-pay. Third, most of the patients were in need of treatment, but they were admitted to the hospital even though their needs were not higher than those of the health insurance patients. Fourth, the rehabilitation service is the mainstay of the medical service of the nursing hospital, and the roles of nursing staff and care givers are important. Fifth, medical care patients are paying medical expenses for nursing hospitals due to cost of living and family support, but they are exempted from the hospital expenses or the burden of their own expenses in the hospital. Sixth, public institutions and social welfare institutions have not managed continuously since commissioning patients to nursing hospitals and have neglected the connection with community services after discharge.
This study has been implemented to explore the method to improve job satisfaction and service quality of its staff by figuring out the effect of job satisfaction of geriatric hospital staff on service quality. For this reason, we conducted a questionnaire survey on April 2 to May 22, 2013 to target 300 people ten geriatric hospital workers in Busan Metropolitan City area, was utilized to study the final total of 276 parts. Firstly, It was found that work satisfaction, wage satisfaction and colleague satisfaction have an effect on job satisfaction, and Secondly, satisfaction and fellow satisfaction of business, were analyzed to affect, but had no effect conservative satisfaction Thirdly, for the effect of job satisfaction on the service quality, it was found that job satisfaction has an effect on service quality. Therefore, it can be concluded that service quality for patients can be improved only if job satisfaction of staff is improved, and by reducing stress caused by overwork of staff and boosting their morale through reasonable wage and compensation.
The study was conducted to find out way that improves service quality for external customers by identifying the impact of Total Quality Management(TQM) on the internal customer satisfaction and then raising the personnel satisfaction measurement in medical institutions. To this end, we carried out a survey of 500 employees from five university hospitals in three metropolitan cities of Busan, Deagu and Ulsan and Gyeongsangnam-do province from February 2 to April 30, 2015, and utilized 476 cases for this study finally. First, in the result of analysis, the leadership of management hierarchy affects education and training and employee participation, but not human resource management nor quality of the work among quality management activities. Secondly, the culture of medical service organization has an effect on every variable of quality management activities. And finally, internal customer satisfaction is influenced by quality management activities, the leadership of management hierarchy and the culture of medical service organization.
