A Canonical Piecewise-Linear Model-Based Digital Predistorter for Power Amplifier Linearization (전력 증폭기의 선형화를 위한 Canonical Piecewise-Linear 모델 기반의 디지털 사전왜곡기)

  • Recently, there has been much interest in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) for next generation wireless wideband communication systems. OFDM is a special case of multicarrier transmission, where a single data stream is transmitted over a number of lower-rate subcarriers. One of the main reasons to use OFDM is to increase robustness against frequency-selective fading or narrowband interference. However, in the radio systems it is also important to distortion introduced by high power amplifiers (HPA's) such as solid state power amplifier (SSPA) considered in this paper. Since the signal amplitude of the OFDM system is Rayleigh-distributed, the performance of the OFDM system is significantly degraded by the nonlinearity of the HPA in the OFDM transmitter. In this paper, we propose a canonical piecewise-linear (PWL) model based digital predistorter to prevent signal distortion and spectral re-growth due to the high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of OFDM signal and the nonlinearity of HPA's. Computer simulation on an OFDM system under additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channels with QPSK, 16-QAM and 64-QAM modulation schemes and modulator/demodulator implemented with 1024-point FFT/IFFT, demonstrate that the proposed predistorter achieves significant performance improvement by effectively compensating for the nonlinearity introduced by the SSPA.

Analysis of Communication Performance According to Detection Sequence of MMSE Soft Decision Interference Cancellation Scheme for MIMO System (다중 입출력 시스템 MMSE 연판정 간섭 제거 기법의 검출 순서에 따른 통신 성능 분석)

  • In this paper, we analyzed BER (Bit Error Rate) communication performance according to the detection order of MMSE (Minimum Mean Square Error) based soft decision interference cancellation. As the detection order method, antenna index order method, absolute value magnitude order method of channel elements, absolute value sum order method of channel elements, and SNR (Signal Noise Ratio) order method are proposed. BER performance for the scheme was measured and analyzed. As a simulation environment, 16-QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) modulation is used in an uncoded environment of an M×M multiple-input multiple-output system, and an independent Rayleigh attenuation channel is considered. The simulation results show that the performance gain is about 1.5dB when the SNR-based detection order method is M=4, and the performance gain is about 3.5dB when M=8 and about 3.5dB when M=16. The more BER performance was confirmed, the more the detection order method of the received signal prevented the interference and error spreading occurring in the detection process.

  • Cryptographic hash functions are also called one-way functions and they ensure the integrity of communication data and command by detecting or blocking forgery. Also hash functions can be used with other security protocols for signature, authentication, and key distribution. The SHA-1 was widely used until it was found to be cryptographically broken by Wang, et. al, 2005. For this reason, NIST launched the SHA-3 competition in November 2007 to develop new secure hash function by 2012. Many SHA-3 hash functions were proposed and currently in review process. To choose new SHA-3 hash function among the proposed hash functions, there have been many efforts to analyze the cryptographic secureness, hardware/software characteristics on each proposed one. However there are few research efforts on the SHA-3 from the point of power consumption, which is a crucial metric on hardware module. In this paper, we analyze the power consumption characteristics of the SHA-3 hash functions when they are made in the form of ASIC hardware module. Also we propose power efficient hardware architecture on Luffa, which is strong candidate as a new SHA-3 hash function. Our proposed low power architecture for Luffa achieves 10% less power consumption than previous Luffa hardware architecture.

A Quantization-adaptive Watermarking Algorithm to Protect MPEG Moving Picture Contents (MPEG 동영상 컨텐츠 보호를 위한 양자화-적응적 워터마킹 알고리즘)

  • This paper proposed a blind watermarking method for video contents which satisfies both the invisibility and the robustness to attacks to prohibit counterfeiting, modification, illegal usage and illegal re-production of video contents. This watermarking algorithm targets MPEG compression system and was designed to control the amount of watermarking to be inserted according to the adaptive quantization scale code to follow the adaptive quantization of the compression system. The inserting positions of the watermark were chosen by considering the frequency property of an image and horizontal, vertical and diagonal property of a $8{\times}8$ image block. Also the amount of watermarking for each watermark bit was decided by considering the quantization step. This algorithm was implemented by C++ and experimented for invisibility and robustness with MPEG-2 system. The experiment results showed that the method satisfied enough the invisibility of the inserted watermark and robustness against attacks. For the general attacks, the error rate of the extracted watermark was less than $10\%$, which is enough in robustness against the attacks. Therefore, this algorithm is expected to be used effectively as a part in many MPEG systems for real-time watermarking, especially in the sensitive applications to the network environments.

Scientists Behaving Badly, Why? : 연구윤리의 저해요인들

  • 본 인식 조사에서 나타난 결과와 개선 방안의 도출과 관련한 시사점을 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 국내 연구부정행위 실태는 우려할만한 수준으로 나타났다. 위조, 변조, 표절, 부당한 저자 배분, 업적 부풀림 등 연구부정행위에 대해 연구비 유용이나 횡령보다 훨씬 더 만연한 것으로 응답하였다. 연구부정행위가 발각되는 정도에 대해서는 의견이 분분하였으나 처벌의 수위는 엄격하지 않다고 생각하는 것으로 나타났다. 본인의 연구윤리 의식이 타인에 비해 높은 것으로 자부하고 있으나 부정행위 인지시의 행동에 대해서는 바람직하다고 생각하는 행동과 자신의 예상 행동 사이에 괴리를 보였고, 바람직하다고 생각하는 행동도 매우 소극적인 것으로 나타났다. 부정행위 실태 조사에서 나타난 중요한 사실은 주로 기초 연구를 수행하는 과기부/교육부 사업 수행자가 응용이나 개발 연구를 수행하는 산자부/정통부 사업 수행자에 비해 자신의 연구 분야에서 연구부정행위가 훨씬 더 만연해 있는 것으로 응답한 것이다. 둘째, 가장 심각한 연구윤리 저해 요인에 대해서는 단기간 성과의 강조, 연구 수주의 경쟁 심화, 정량적 성과 주의 등을 꼽았으며, 전체적으로 개인적/문화적 요인보다는 구조적/조직적 요인, 특히 구조적 요인이 더 중요한 것으로 인식하고 있었다. 신뢰도 분석 결과 제3장에서의 분석을 바탕으로 본 연구에서 제시한 구조적, 조직적, 개인적, 문화적 요인의 구분은 유효한 구분으로 나타났다. 대학에 비해 정출연 소속 연구자들이 구조적 요인이 연구부정행위와 더 관련이 많다고 인식하고 있었으며, 기업 소속 연구자들은 구조적 요인이나 조직적 요인과의 관련성이 더 적은 것으로 인식하고 있어 본 연구에서 제시한 여러 저해 요인들이 대학이나 정출연에 더욱 밀접한 것으로 나타났다. 개인적 요인에 대해서는 여성이나 고연령층에서 부정행위와의 관련성을 더 크게 느끼고 있었다. 셋째, 개선 방안에 대해서는 과도한 연구비의 집중 방지, 소규모 개인과제 확대, 평가의 전문성과 공정성 확보를 가장 효과적인 방안으로 인식하고 있었다. 부정행위에 대한 처벌의 강화와 양적 평가의 개선에 대해서도 효과를 높이 기대하고 있었다. 연구윤리 교육이나 상대 평가의 강화, 진실성 검증 시스템의 보완 등에 대해서는 큰 효과를 기대하지 않고 있었으나 이는 국내에서 그동안 연구윤리에 대한 체계적 교육이나 진실성 검증 시스템이 존재하지 않은 탓에 연구자들이 그 효과를 잘 인식하지 못하고 있다는 점이 고려되어야 할 것이다. 개선 방안을 크게 평가, 선정, 수행, 연구윤리의 인프라로 구분하였을 때에는 선정과 평가와 관련된 개선이 시급한 것으로 인식하고 있었다. 사업별로는 과기부/교육부 사업 수행자가 선정과 관련된 개선의 효과를 더욱 크게 느끼고 있었고 소속기관으로는 대학 연구자들이 더욱 크게 느끼고 있어, 소규모 과제의 확대와 연구비 집중 문제 해결, 경쟁 완화 등이 대학과 기초연구분야에 더욱 절실하다는 것을 나타내었다. 전체적으로 제시된 세부 항목에 대해 과기부/교육부 사업 수행자가 산자부/정통부 사업 수행자보다 효과성을 높게 보고 있는 것은 연구부정행위 실태에 대해서도 더 심각하게 인식하는 것과 맥락을 같이한다고 볼 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서 제안하는 여러 개선 방안들을 단계적으로 적용한다고 할 때 우선 기초연구나 개인 단위 과제 중심으로 적용하는 것이 효과성이나 필요성의 측면에서 모두 바람직한 것으로 판단된다.

Simulation and Examination for Beam Profile of DFB Laser with an Anti-reflection Coated Mirror (무반사 면을 갖는 DFB 레이저의 빔 분포 시뮬레이션과 검정)

  • Lasers for optical broadband communication systems should have excellent frequency selectivity and modal stability. DFB lasers have low lasing frequency shift during high speed current modulation. In this paper, when a refractive index grating and a gain grating are simultaneously present in a DFB laser having a wavelength of 1.55 ㎛, the dielectric film is coated so that reflection does not occur on the right mirror surface, so that ρr=0. For the first mode, which requires a minimum gain at the threshold, the beam distribution of the oscillation mode in the longitudinal direction and the radiated power ratio Pl/Pr were analyzed and compared for the cases of the phase of ρl=π and π/2. If the phase of ρl=π, in order to obtain a low threshold current and high frequency stability, κL should be greater than 8. In the case of the phase of ρl=π/2, for low threshold current, κL is necessary to be 1.0, where the oscillation frequency coincides with the lattice frequency. Analysis of the Causes of Subfrontal Recurrence in Medulloblastoma and Its Salvage Treatment (수모세포종의 방사선치료 후 전두엽하방 재발된 환자에서 원인 분석 및 구제 치료)

  • Purpose: Firstly, to analyze facto in terms of radiation treatment that might potentially cause subfrontal relapse in two patients who had been treated by craniospinal irradiation (CSI) for medulloblastoma, Secondly, to explore an effective salvage treatment for these relapses. Materials and Methods: Two patients who had high-risk disease (T3bMl, T3bM3) were treated with combined chemoradiotherapy CT-simulation based radiation-treatment planning (RTP) was peformed. One patient who experienced relapse at 16 months after CSI was treated with salvage surgery followed by a 30.6 Gy IMRT (intensity modulated radiotherapy). The other patient whose tumor relapsed at 12 months after CSI was treated by surgery alone for the recurrence. To investigate factors that might potentially cause subfrontal relapse, we evaluated thoroughly the charts and treatment planning process including portal films, and tried to find out a method to give help for placing blocks appropriately between subfrotal-cribrifrom plate region and both eyes. To salvage subfrontal relapse in a patient, re-irradiation was planned after subtotal tumor removal. We have decided to treat this patient with IMRT because of the proximity of critical normal tissues and large burden of re-irradiation. With seven beam directions, the prescribed mean dose to PTV was 30.6 Gy (1.8 Gy fraction) and the doses to the optic nerves and eyes were limited to 25 Gy and 10 Gy, respectively. Results: Review of radiotherapy Portals clearly indicated that the subfrontal-cribriform plate region was excluded from the therapy beam by eye blocks in both cases, resulting in cold spot within the target volume, When the whole brain was rendered in 3-D after organ drawing in each slice, it was easier to judge appropriateness of the blocks in port film. IMRT planning showed excellent dose distributions (Mean doses to PTV, right and left optic nerves, right and left eyes: 31.1 Gy, 14.7 Gy, 13.9 Gy, 6.9 Gy, and 5.5 Gy, respectively. Maximum dose to PTV: 36 Gy). The patient who received IMRT is still alive with no evidence of recurrence and any neurologic complications for 1 year. Conclusion: To prevent recurrence of medulloblastoma in subfrontal-cribriform plate region, we need to pay close attention to the placement of eye blocks during the treatment. Once subfrontal recurrence has happened, IMRT may be a good choice for re-irradiation as a salvage treatment to maximize the differences of dose distributions between the normal tissues and target volume.
