An Analysis of the Hydroelastic Response of Large Floating Structures in Oblique Waves (사파중에 놓인 거대 부유체의 응답에 대한 유탄성 해석)

  • In this paper, the fluid-structure interaction of large floating structures has been rigorously analyzed and the shear effect on the structural deformation has been investigated in oblique waves. A constant panel method(CPM) based on the Green function method is implemented for computing the hydrodynamic pressure, while a finite element method(FEM) is applied for the structural response based on the Mindlin plate theory with including shear deformation. In order to validate the method, we compared numerical results with experimental ones of Mega Float carried out by Yago & Endo in head waves. General behavior shows good agreement but the local displacement at the ends is slightly different. The numerical results show that the radiation pressure due to the fluid-structure interaction is locally larger than that of wave excitation and mooring devices greatly reduce the response. It is observed that the shear effects among the total deformation constitutes about 4% in the case of Mega Float in oblique waves.

Reactor Neutron Activation Analysis by a Single Comparator Method

  • A method of activation analysis, based on the irradiation and counting of an iron wire which contains manganese impurity as the single comparator. has been elaborated by critical evaluation of nuclear data involved in activation and activity measurement. The variation of effective cross section is investigated as a function of the spectral index and other parameters such as a measure of the proportion of epithermal neutrons in the reactor spectrum. The errors induced by shifts in the neutron spectrum in the irradiation positions are discussed. The known amount of each element is irradiated simultaneously together with the single comparator, and the obtained values are compared with the known amount of each element. The results show that en general the random errors are not greater than those obtained by using the conventional relative method, but the systematic errors were up to about 20%. This method is applied to the determinations of fourteen rare earth elements in monazite as well as other seven elements in the standard kale powder. The satisfactory reproducibility of the present method makes possible the determination of the elements with an accuracy attainable with the conventional relative method.

p-Version Finite Element Model of Stiffened Plates by Hierarchic $C^0$-Element (계층적 $C^0$ - 요소에 의한 보강판의 p-Version 유한요소 모델)

  • A general stiffener element which includes transverse shear deformation is formulated using the p-version finite element method. Hierarchic C/sup o/-shape functions, derived from Integrals of Legendre polynomials, are used to define the assembled stiffness matrix of the stiffener with respect to the local reference frame is transformed to the plate reference system by applying the appropriate transformation matrices in order to insure compatibility of displacements at the junction of the stiffener and plate. The transformation matrices which account for the orientation and the eccentricity effects of the stiffener with respect to the plate reference axes are used to find local behavior at the junction of the stiffener and the relative contributions of the plate and stiffener to the strength of the composite system. The results obtained by the p-version finite element method are comared with the results in literatures, especially those by the h-version finite element analysis program, MICROFEAP-II.

  • This paper investigates the variation of post-buckling behaviours of 2-dimensional shallow arch type truss after sizing optimization. The mathematical programming technique is used to produce the optimum member size of 2D arch truss against a central point load. Total weight of structure is considered as the objective function to be minimized and the displacement occurred at loading point and member stresses of truss are used as the constraint functions. The finite difference method is used to calculate the design sensitivity of objective function with respect to design variables. The postbuckling analysis carried out by using the geometrically nonlinear finite element analysis code ISADO-GN. It is found to be that there is a huge change of post-buckling behaviour between the initial structure and optimum structure. Numerical results can be used as useful information for future research of large spatial structures.

Active Vibration Control of a Cantilever Beam Using Fuzzy Control Scheme and PID Controller (퍼지 기법과 PID 제어기를 이용한 외팔보의 능동 진동 제어)

  • This paper is concerned with the fuzzy control scheme and PID controller for the vibration suppression control of a cantilever beam equipped with a laser sensor and an electromagnetic actuator. The PID controller is being widely used in industrial applications. However, it is difficult to determine the appropriate PID gains in nonlinear systems and systems with time variant characteristic and so on. In this paper, we design the fuzzy based PID controller of which output gains are adjusted automatically and the designed controller is applied to active vibration control of a cantilever beam using electromagnetic actuator with strong nonlinearity. The tuning PID parameters of proposed controller are determined by using Fuzzy algorithm. Effectiveness and performance of the designed controller are verified by both simulation and experiment results. Experimental results demonstrate that better control performance can be achieved in comparison with the PID cotroller.

Analysis of Current-Voltage Characteristics Caused by Electron Injection in Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Devices (전자주입에 의해 야기되는 MOS 소자의 전류-전압 특성 분석)

  • A simple two-terminal cyclic current0voltage(I-V) technique was used to measure the current-transients in metal-oxide-semiconductor capacitors. Distinct charging/discharging currents were measured and analyzed as a function of the hold time, the delay time, the gate polarity during the FNT electron injection, the injection fluence and the annealing time after the injection had stopped. The charge-exchange current was distinguished from total current-transients containing the displacement current components. Charging/discharging current caused by the charge exchange was strongly dependent not only on the density of positive charges in the $SiO_2$, but also on the density of interface traps generated during the FNT electron injection. Several tentative mechanisms were suggested.

Hydraulic Relation of Discharge and Velocity in Small, Steep Mountain Streams Using the Salt-dilution Method (Salt-dilution 방법을 이용한 산지소하천의 유량과 유속 관계 분석)

  • Reach-average velocity prediction in steep mountain streams is important for understanding fluvial processes and practical applications of erosion control in mountain streams. little studies have been conducted in reach-average velocity, but hydraulic researches have been carried out to examine the relationship between discharge and reach-average velocity in torrent reaches using a relatively large amount of discharge data. In this study, a total of 87 data were measured in 8 torrent reaches. Salt-dilution method was used to estimate discharge. Reach-average velocity was calculated from harmonic mean of travel time that were measured by salt-dilution technique. In order to exlpore the hydraulic relation, both discharge and velocity were non-dimensionalized by using $D_{50}$, $D_{84}$, ${\sigma}_{pro}$ and $IPR_{90}$. It also indicated that ${\sigma}_{pro}$ and $IPR_{90}$ were good variables as roughness height for develop the relationship between non-dimensional discharge and velocity in mountain streams. Generally, reach-average velocity could increase exponentially as discharge increases.

p-Version Finite Element Model of Cracked Thick Plates Including Shear Deformation under Flexure (휨을 받는 두꺼운 균열판의 전단변형을 고려한 p-Version 유한요소모델)

  • The new p-version crack model is proposed to estimate the stress intensity factors of the thick cracked plate under flexure. The proposed model is based on high order theory and $C^{\circ}$-plate element including shear deformation. The displacements fields are defined by integrals of Legendre polynomials which can be classified into three groups such as basic mode, side mode and internal mode. The computer implementation allows arbitrary variations of p-level Up to a maximum value of 10. The stress intensity factors are computed by virtual crack extention approach. The effects of ratios of thickness to crack length(h/a), crack length to width(a/W) and boundary conditions are investigated. Very good agreement with the existing solution in the literature are shown for the uncracked plate as well as the cracked plate.

  • In this study, the deformation oi wall thinning elbow is measured and the position of the internal thinning defect is found out by shearography. Shearography is an optical method which has applied to nondestructive testing (NDT) and the strain/stress and deformation analysis. This technique has the merit of the directly measuring the first derivative of displacement with sensitivity which can be adjusted by handling the tilt mirror in the interferometer. In this paper, we tested carbon steel pipe locally wall thinned and loaded internal pressure and the shearography was applied to measure the out-of-plane deformation of wall thinning elbow and to investigate the internal thinning defect of it. From the results, it was confirmed that this technique is proper to the practical application on the pipe line system with internal defect.

A Study on the Laterally Dynamic Characteristics and the Finite Elements of Concrete Slab Track (슬래브궤도에 대한 유한요소와 횡방향 동특성에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, Interaction among each element was construed by the unit of new stiffness matrix to analyze the finite element about Japanese precast concrete slab track and improved slab track. Dynamic analysis which is assumed a static analysis and a trainload on the transverse and the longitudinal load of the train into a series periodic function was performed by using the common program. And then, the difference of the movement between an improved section and an existing structure type was realized. Longitudinal static analysis indicated that the stress of the improved section is smaller than that of the protrusion of the existing slab track. And static and dynamic analysis on transverse load showed a little decrease of the displacement on new slab track. But the dynamic analysis result showed that new track system was considerably decreased by 30% compared with the existing Japanese slab track.
