Knowledge Representation Characteristics of Categories and Scripts: An Investigation on Hierarchy and Typicality Effects (개념지식의 유형에 따른 표상차이: 범주와 각본의 위계성과 전형성 비교1))

  • This study was conducted to investigate some characteristics of representation of category knowledge and script knowledge. Using primed lexical decision task with higher level primers in the representation structure, Experiment 1 examined the interaction effects between knowledge type and concept typicality. It was found that the concept typicality has some effects in category representation, while it has no significant effect in script representation. In Experiment 2, primers of the lower hierarchy in the representation structure were employed. The results showed that the main effect of knowledge type was significant: the response time for category knowledge was faster than that for script knowledge. Typicality effect did not show in this experiment. The results of t the two experiments suggest that category knowledge is represented in hierarchy and typicality. while script knowledge may lack in that characteristics. Other aspects of the differences in characteristics of category- and script- knowledge representation were discussed,

Categorization of Young Children by Object Categorical Hierarchy (사물의 범주 위계에 따른 영아의 범주화 수행)

  • The purposes of this study were to investigate how children's categorization differs in object categorical hierarchy and to examine whether these aspects were different according to the children's age of 18 months, 24 months, 30 months. The participants consisted of 120 young children aged 18 months, 24 months, and 30 months from 31 child-care centers located in middle-income regions of Seoul and Kyonggi Province. The major findings were as follows : First, all the children from all three age groups could consistently differentiate the superordinates; however, they could not consistently differentiate basic categories. Second, 24 month appears to be a critical change period in category development. Third, as the children become older, they are able to acquire more knowledge regarding categories. These results suggested that the advent of ordering, in terms of basic categories as well as superordinates which occurred around the age of 24 month, was confirmed in category development.

  • Three studies examined the Keil's(1983)arguments that ontological categories form a hierarchy and they could be strong constraints on induction.In experiment 1,the jungments of sentence acceptability of 5-year-olds and adults showed that they have the hierarchically structured ontological knowledge.In experiment 2,it has been demonstrated that the both age group of subjects use their ontological knowledge to make inferences about the properties of the unknown things described in terms of a predicate.In the last experiment it has been demonstrated that subject can use the ontological knowledge in order to infer what other things could have the unknown organs.

A Test of Hierarchical Model of Bilinguals Using Implicit and Explicit Memory Tasks (이중언어자의 위계모형 검증 : 암묵기억과제와 외현기억과제의 효과)

  • The study was designed to investigate implicit and explicit memory effec representations of bilinguals. Hierarchical model of bilingual information processing word naming and translation tasks in the context of semantically categorized or rar Experiments 1 and 2, bilinguals first viewed stimulus words and performed naming or tr then implicit and explicit memory tasks. In experiment I, word recognition times(exp were significantly faster for semantic category condition than random category condi naming task and lexical decision taskOmplicit memory task)showed no difference in e experiment 2, naming task and exlicit memory task showed categorization effect but fOWE a and implcit memory task showed no categorization effect. These findings support the which posits that memory representations of bilinguals are composed of two independer a and one common conceptual store.

A Study on Concept Mapping of the Citizen-initiative (주민주도성에 관한 개념도(Concept Mapping) 연구)

  • The citizen-initiative has been frequently mentioned in community building project which is being promoted by Seoul City. The citizen-initiative has become an important concept in the direction of community welfare efforts. However, this concept has not been defined clearly in social welfare. In this context, the purpose of this study is to find how the practitioners of the social welfare practice field recognize the concept of citizen-initiative. In this study, concept mapping method was used to generate 59 statements about the citizeninitiative in 10 social workers in Seoul. Multidimensional scaling analysis and hierarchical cluster analysis are used to do mapping and grouping the 59 statements. The results are as follows. A total of 6 categories were derived. The six categories are named "Inducement of Participation", "Practice", "Procedure", "Awareness and Interest extension", "Expression of Opinion", "Attitude and Emotion". "Practice" category was revealed as a core category in the concept of citizen-initiative. This study is meaningful as a first step to discuss "what is the citizen-initiative?" and to make consensus in social welfare academic area and practice field.

The Structure and Processing of the Korean functional category (한국어 기능범주의 정보처리)

  • 본 연구는 한국어 기능 범주(functional category)의 처리를 살펴보기 위하여 실문법증 환자를 대상으로 실시되었다. 일반적으로 수형도에서 기능 범주는 보문소구(Complementizer Phrase), 시제구(Tenxe Phrase), 일치소구(Agreement Phrase)의 순으로 구성되어 있다. 본 실험은 Grodzinsky(1997)의 수형도 가지치기 가설과 실문법증의 엄밀성 척도를 바탕으로 한국어 기능 범주의 처리에 있어서도 두 가지 가설의 적용이 타당한지 여부를 검증하기 위해 실시되었다. 실험 1은 일치소(Agr)의 처리를 살펴보기 위하여 실시되었는데, 국어의 존칭 선어말 어미를 중심으로 살펴보았다. 국어의 존칭선어말 어미는 크게 '-시-'삽입에 의한 존칭과 다른 어휘로 대체하는 보충법에 의한 존칭으로 구분된다. '-시-'삽입에 의한 존칭은 AgrP의 범주로 보충법에 의한 존칭은 동사구(Verb Phrase)의 범주로 설정하여 문법에 어려움을 보이는 실문법증의 경우 어휘부에 혹하는 보충법에 의한 존칭을 문법범주에 속하는 '-시-'삽입의 존칭보다 더 잘 할 것으로 가정하였다. 실험 2는 AgrP의 범주인 '-시-'선택의 장애가 TPqja주인 시제 선택에 역시 영향을 미칠 것이라는 가정아래 설계되었다. 수형도 상에서 '-시-'는 일치소(Agr)로서 시제(TP)의 아래에 위치하므로 실험 3은 '-시-'삽입 존칭과 시제에서 어려움이 보문소(CP)의 선택에 역시 영향을 미칠 것이라는 가정하에서 실시되었다. 실험 1의 결과 '-시-'삽입에 의한 존칭을 처리하는데 보충법에 의한 존칭보다 어려움을 보였다. 실험 2의 결과 '-시-'삽입 존칭에 어려움을 보인 환자는 시제 선어말 어미를 선택하는데도 어려움을 보임이 확인되었다. 실험 3 역시 실험 1과 실험2에서와 동일하게 처리의 어려움을 보였다. 이러한 실험 결과들은 국어의 존칭과 시제 선어말 어미가 통사부에서 구(XP)와 결합하여 새로운 구를 형성하는 통사적 접사로 해석할 수 있으며 Grodzinsky의 가설을 지지하는 결과를 보여 줌으로서 국어에서도 AgrP, TP, CP 사이의 통사적 위계가 있음을 뒷받침하는 증거가 된다.

초등학교 5학년 학생들의 넓이 측정과 관련된 지식 상태의 분석

  • 새로운 것을 학습할 때 학생들은 자신이 어떤 지식 상태를 갖고 있는지에 따라 상당히 다른 이해의 정도를 나타낸다. 유의미한 이해를 이끌어 내기 위해서 교사들은 학생들의 사전 지식상태를 파악하고 그것에 근거하여 학습과제를 제시할 필요가 있으며, 어떤 단원을 학습한 후에 학생들의 지식상태를 파악해 보는 방법도 모색되어야 할 것이다. 본 연구는 충청북도 C도시 4개 초등학교 5학년 학생 285명에게 수학 5-가 6단원을 학습한 후 넓이 측정과 관련된 지식상태 검사를 실시하고 그 결과를 Doignon & Falmagne(1999)의 지식공간론을 활용하여 분석하였다. 학생들의 답안에서 평면도형의 넓이 측정과 관련된 지식의 상태를 파악하고 세 가지 범주-측정의 의미 파악, 공식 활용, 전략의 사용-에서 지식 상태의 위계도를 작성하였다. 첫 번째 범주인 측정의 의미 파악과 관련하여 학생들은 둘레나 넓이의 속성 파악에서 혼동을 보이거나 직관적으로 넓이를 비교해야 하는 과제에서도 계산을 시도하는 지식 상태가 반 이상인 것으로 드러났다. 두 번째 범주인 공식 활용과 관련해서는 학생들의 상당수가 부적합한 수치를 넣어 무조건 넓이 계산을 시도하고 있었다. 또한 세 번째 범주인 전략 사용에 관해서는 분할이나 등적변형 등의 전략을 알고 있는 학생 중에도 40% 가량은 문제를 표상하는데 어려움이 있어 해결하지 못하는 것으로 드러났다.

The Effects of Macrostructure of Discourse Processing (대형구조가 글 애해에 미치는 영향)

  • This study investigated the effects of macrostructure on discourse processing. In this study, three different story were employed to form macrostructures on different times, and reading time, sentence verification time and free recall rate were measured as dependent vari- ables. The results showed that forming the macrostructure influenced the reading and verification times and the recall rate. The results were interpreted to indicate that the macrostructure is important to comprehend and recall the stories, and that the story grammars, hierarchies of story schema and causal relation of sentences affect the comprehension and recall through their interaction in macrostructure.

What Kinds of Rearing Stress Do the Mothers of the Gifted Have?: Using a Concept Mapping Approach (영재 자녀를 둔 어머니들의 양육 스트레스 분석: 개념도 기법을 활용하여)

  • This research investigates gifted students' mothers' rearing stress based on the concept mapping method. For this, 12 gifted students' mothers solicited, gathered and analyzed related statements, and then did multidimensional scaling and hierarchical cluster analysis. The stress value was .273 which was appropriate for the two level concept mapping study. In addition 101 mothers of gifted students rated for the rearing stresses they experience. Results were as follows. First, 79 concrete statements were solicited and as a result of concept mapping were categorized as 'burden and conflict as mothers of the gifted', 'possible negative characteristics due to the giftedness', and 'self-esteem and pressure by the title of the gifted'. Especially following items showed relatively high average: worrying about how to give the child a specific help for his/her career(M=4.65); worrying that she might be intervening too much in their child's behaviors(M=4.60); getting pressured supporting the child to get involved in the gifted education system continually(M=4.46); worrying if her child is not developing his/her talent enough due to the lack of time and money(M=4.44); being concerned that her high expectations might be putting her child under too much pressure (M=4.43). Implications of the study related to gifted education practices were discussed.

A Study on the Cultural Characteristics of Korean Society: Discovering Its Categories Using the Cultural Consensus Model (한국사회의 문화적 특성에 관한 연구: 문화합의이론을 통한 범주의 발견)

  • This study attempted to discover the dimensions of Korean culture, with the presumption that the cross-cultural studies(Hofstede, 1980, 1997; Schwartz, 1992, 1994; Trompenaars and Hampden-Turner, 1997; House et al., 2004) have limitation to explain non-western culture including Korean culture. Even though there are some Korean cultural studies, they used heuristic approaches applying the authors' experiences and intuitions. This study applied the Cultural Consensus Theory to overcome the previous studies' shortcomings and to discover the dimensions that can be empirically proved by data. In specific this study conducted in-depth interview, used content analysis, did frequency analysis, and applied pilesort technique, multidimensional scaling and network analysis. As a result, this study obtained five categories: public self-consciousness, group-focused orientation, affective human relations, hierarchical culture, and result-orientation. It is expected that these dimensions can be used as important variables that may explain Korean social phenomena.
