Environmental Factor Analysis of Helminthosporium-Leaf-Spot-Disease Occurrence in Rice (벼 깨씨무늬병 발생의 환경요인 분석)

  • In the late growth stage of rice plant, the growth declines even though they grow well in early growth stage. This phenomenon is called autumn declining and it often accompanies the infection of Helminthosporium leaf spot disease. This study was carried out to identify the related environmental factors and to establish the integrated control system of Helminthosporium Leaf Spot Disease in rice. The total area of infected paddy field by Helminthosporium leaf spot was 470 ha in 2000 and 1,004 ha in 2001, which occupied about 1% of the total paddy area in Gyeongbuk province, Korea. The ill-drained sandy paddy occupied 50% of the total area of infected paddy fields and followed by sandy paddy (28%). Comparing the content of soil elements between infected and normal paddy, it was clarified that the organic matter content of normal was higher than that of infected paddy and the contents of inorganic elements such as Mn, Fe, Zn and available $SiO_2$ were also higher in normal paddy. The results of comparing the inorganic elements between infected and normal rice plants also showed the same results. The contents of inorganic elements such as MgO, $SiO_2$, Fe, Mn were higher in normal rice plants. Especially highly significant difference of $SiO_2$ content on both soil and rice plants was noticeable.

A Clinical and Epidemiologic Study on Varicella in Children (수두의 임상 및 유행 양상에 대한 연구)

  • Purpose : Varicella is a common contagious illness and vaccine against it has been used in healthy Korean children. We studied clinical and epidemiologic features of varicella and the effect of vaccination. Methods : We analyzed clinical and epidemiologic features of varicella and vaccination effect against it in children treated in Hangang Sacred Heart Hospital from March 1994 to December 1996. Results : 1) Total 73 cases of varicella, 46 male and 27 female patients were included. Annual incidence was 31, 20 and 22 cases from '94 to '96 respectively, with an increase during the period June to July and December to January. 2) Mean age was $46{\pm}37.2$ months and 84.9% of the patients were younger than 7 years old including 16.4% of infants. 3) Varicella occurred after a contact with varicella patients in 40(54.8%) patients. 4) Fever developed in 44(60%) patients with mean $38.4{\pm}0.8^{\circ}C$ and persisted for mean $3{\pm}2.4$ days. Nine(12.3%) patients had complications and eighteen(25%) patients were admitted for mean $4{\pm}2.1$ days but all recovered. 5) Twenty(27.8%) patients were affected despite preceding vaccination against varicella but the number of vesicles decreased significantly in vaccinees(P<0.01). 6) The rate of secondary cases in healthy siblings was 27 out of 35(77.1%) and was not affected by preceding vaccination. Conclusion : Varicella occurred mainly in children younger than 7 years old and showed seasonality. Because 27.8% of cases developed despite preceding vaccination and the rate of secondary cases was not affected by vaccination, further study for vaccine efficacy is necessary.

소 세균성 폐렴과 예방대책

  • 소에서 발생하는 호흡기 질병은 가축이 가지고 있는 내적인 요인과 사육환경의 악화나 각종 스트레스 등의 외적인 요인과의 복합적인 균형의 파괴에서 시작된다고 볼 수 있다. 이와 같은 질병발생요인은 다른 축종이나 소화기 등 타 질병에서도 동인한 사항으로 생각될 수 있으나 호흡기질병의 경우 환경적인 요인이 더욱 중요한 발병이자로 작용하게 된다. 즉 밀집다두사육, 환절기의 낮과 밤의 큰 일교차, 환기불량이나 우사내의 유해가스, 장거리 수송 등의 스트레스가 일차적인 발병인자가 되며, 이타적으로 가축이 가지고 있거나 외부에서 유입된 여러 가지의 병원 미생물의 다량증식하고, 동물개체는 면역력이 떨어지면서 질병에 감염되어 단일 또는 복합적인 임상증상으로 나타나는 것이다. 호흡기질병의 원인균에는 다양한 종류의 세균 및 바이러스에 의해 이루어지며, 단일의 원인균에 의한 질병발생보다는 복합적으로 감염되어 병을 악화시키고 피해를 크게 하는 것이 일반적이다. 본고에서는 소에서 흔히 나타날 수 있는 주요한 세균성 호흡기 질병의 종류와 임상증상 및 일반적인 방제대책에 대하여 기술하고자 한다.

Analysis of Bacterial Spot Disease in Red Pepper Caused by Increase of CO2 Concentration (CO2 농도 상승 효과에 의한 고추 세균점무늬병 발병 양상 분석)

  • An increase in $CO_2$ will affect plant pathogenic microorganisms, the resistance of host plants, and host-pathogen interactions. This study used Capsicum annuum and Xanthomonas euvesicatoria, a pathogenic bacterium of pepper, to investigate the interactions between hosts and pathogens in conditions of increased $CO_2$ concentrations. Our analysis of disease resistance genes under 800 ppm $CO_2$ using quantitative RT-PCR showed that the expression of CaLRR1, CaPIK1, and PR10 decreased, but that of negative regulator WRKY1 increased. Additionally, the disease progress and severity was higher at 800 ppm than 400 ppm $CO_2$. These results will aid in understanding the interaction between red pepper and X. euvesicatoria under increased $CO_2$ concentrations in the future.

Synthesis of Pyto-patch as Silver Nanoparticle Product and Antimicrobial Activity (은나노 제품인 Pyto-patch의 제조공정 및 Pyto-patch의 고추 탄저병 방제효과)

  • The commercial product "pyto-patch" prepared as nano sized silver particle less than 5 nm, has effective antifungal activity against Collectotrichum gloeosporioides, Botrytis cinerea, Sclerotinia sclerotiorum in vitro. As a fungal growth inhibiton mechanism, it can reduce spore germination rate and mycelial growth. As s promising fungicide, Phyto-patch can control anthracnose effectively. The spore of C. gloeosporioides dipped in 5 ppm phyto-patch dilute suppressed germination rate to 13.2%, and mycelial growth stopped for 15 days at 10 ppm. The spore postinoculated on 10 ppm phyto-path smeared PDA surface could not germinate for 3 days and prohibit pathogen infection effectively. In field test, the anthracnose development of 4 ppm phyto-patch treated plot was less than 7% after 21 days compaired to 40% of it in untreated plot. In heavy rainfall season, pepper anthracnose effectivly contrrolled by regular 10 ppm phytopatch spraying every 7 days. The diseased pepper fruit decreased to 5.8% compaired to 94.6% in untreated plot. During drying period, the diseased pepper fruit havested in phyto-patch treated plot was 24.2%, but pepper fruit havested in untreated plot destroyed to 100% within 3 days. The nano silver particle coated on multching textile prevented late blight of pepper effectively and disease occurance delayed about month.

  • 계절, 서식 환경의 구분없이 발병하는 병원성 미생물로 인하여 어류의 감염피해 및 경제적 손실이 막대하며 병원성 미생물을 저해하기 위해 투여한 항생제의 오남용으로 인하여 내성을 갖는 세균들의 출현 위험성이 상재하고 있다. 따라서 항생제 사용에 대한 효과 감소는 물론 과량 투여에 따른 양식업의 경쟁력 약화로 이루어질 가능성이 높기 때문에 보다 환경 친화적이며 어병의 효율적인 생물학적 제어를 시도하기 위해 어류의 gastrointestinal(GI) track으로부터 수산용 probiotic 유산균을 분리 동정하고 그 특성을 조사하여 앞으로 수산용 probiotic으로서 이용가능성을 알아보고자 하였다.   • 국내 동물약품회사 대표주자로 성장해온 (주)고려비엔피가 뉴캣슬병(이하 ND) 생독백신 시장에 도전장을 던졌다. 제1종 법정 전염병인 ND는 급성 열성 호흡기 질병으로 국내를 비롯한 아시아 전역에 확산되면서 발병을 막기 위해 생독백신을 사용해왔다. 지금까지 대부분 수입 생독백신이 사용되어 왔지만, 국내기업에서 '달구방 N+ 생백신' 제품이 출시되면서 동물약품 업계가 주목하고 있다. 특히 '달구방 N+생백신'은 최근 유행하고 있는 7형 유전형에 방어력이 뛰어난 제품으로 항원 상동성이 매우 높고 안전성이 뛰어난 차세대 ND 생백신이라는 점에서 인정받고 있다. 지난달 '달구방 N+ 생백신' 출시와 관련 기자간담회를 통해 송기연 대표이사를 만나 인터뷰한 내용을 정리하였다.

Knowledge, Attitude and Health Behaviors Related to Cardiovascular Disease Prevention in Postmenopausal Women Workers (폐경기 여성 근로자의 심뇌혈관질환 예방 관련 지식, 태도 및 건강행위에 관한 융합 연구)

  • This study was conducted from November 1, 2017 to November 30, 2017 in 268 women in late postmenopausal period in D and S shipyards located in G city. The subjects were divided into two groups according to the risk factors of cerebrovascular disease according to the presence or absence of risk factors of cerebrovascular disease. The subjects were divided into two groups according to their general characteristics, cerebrovascular disease prevention knowledge, attitude and health behavior. The variables that had statistically significant difference in health group and risk group were age (F=92.239, p<.001), cohabitation type ($x^2=20.056$, p<.001), income level ($x^2=39.023$, p<.001), the number of working hours per week (F=32.217, p<.001), the number of working years (F=12.310, p=.001), family history of cardiovascular disease ($x^2=233.442$, p<.001), subjective health status($x^2=19.058$, p=.001). There was a significant difference between the two groups in the degree of knowledge related to prevention of cardiovascular disease (F=2.679, p=.008) and health behavior fulfillment (F=4.339, p<.001). (r=.348, p<.001), the risk group had a higher knowledge (r=.279, p=.002), and the other group Attitude (r=.194, p=.030) showed a statistically significant correlation. Based on this, it is necessary to develop and apply an intervention program considering the characteristics of vulnerable group of cerebrovascular disease.

The Family History of Chronic Diseases, Food Group Intakes, and Physical Activity Practices among School Children in Seoul, Korea (서울지역 일부 초등학생의 생활 습관병 가족력, 식품군 섭취 형태 및 활동량 평가)

  • In this study, we examined family history of chronic diseases, food group intake and physical activity in $5^{th}\;and\; 6^{th}$ grade elementary school children. Food group intake was compared with the KDRI food guides for children. The measurements of daily physical activity, television viewing, computer use, and daily servings of five food groups, including grains, meats, dairy products, fruits, and vegetables, were based on child and parent self-reports. As indices of obesity, the obesity index(%) and BMI(Body Mass Index) were used. The results were as follows. In boys, 83.2% were normal weight with 7.4% slightly obese, 7.4% moderately obese, and 2.0 were highly obese while the percentages of normal and slightly obese in girls were 89.9% and 6.2% respectively (p<0.05). The boys had more hours of daily physical activity(p<0.05) and more hours of computer usage(Internet searching or games)(p<0.05) than the girls. Slightly over 50% of the subjects met the daily recommended servings of grains, dairy products, fruits, and vegetables according to the KDRI food guides. However, only 26% of boys and 27% of girls met the recommended daily servings of protein foods such as meats, beans, and eggs. Thirty two percent(32%) of girls consumed high fat snacks everyday while 32% consumed high sugar snacks every day. The girls consumed more vegetables(p<0.05) and more high sugar snacks(p<0.05) than the boys. The children with family histories of obesity showed greater obesity rates(p<0.05) and sedentary lifestyles(p< 0.05) than those children without a family history of obesity. Children with family histories of high blood pressure consumed more sewings of vegetables and high fat snacks than the controls(p<0.05). The children with family histories of obesity consumed more high sugar or high fat snacks than the controls(p<0.05).

  • 말라리아는 Plasmodium 속 원충으로 인하여 적혈구와 간 세포내에 발병하는 감염병으로, 매년 약 3-5억의 발병과 100만 명 이상의 사망자로 인하여 세계보건기구(WHO)가 선정한 6대 열대병 중에서도 가장 중요한 질환으로 고려되고 있다. 우리나라에서도 법정전염병 제3군으로 지정된 중요한 감염병이다. 국내에서는 지난 2000년 이후 감소 추세를 보이던 국내 말라리아 환자발생(현역 군인 포함)이 2005년 1,324명, 2006년 2,021명, 2007년 2,192명으로 2007년 국내 말라리아 환자는 전년대비 8.5%의 증가를 보이고 있다. 일반적으로, 매개체를 통한 감염병은 생태계 내에서의 상호 작용에 영향을 받기 때문 기후 인자와도 큰 영향을 받는 것으로 알려져 있다. 특히, 모기 매개 질병은 기후의 영향을 크게 받으며, 기온, 강수량, 습도 등의 수문기상 요소가 중요한 영향을 미치며, 그 중에서도 말라리아는 매개체에 의한 전염병 중 가장 중요하게 다루어지는 전염병인 동시에 기후변화에 가장 민감한 질병이다. 이 때문에 말리리아와 기후 인자 및 기후변화를 연관 지으려는 연구가 다수 수행되어 왔으며, 특히 최근에는 습지와 기후 인자와 말라리아의 상관관계를 분석하는 등의 다각적인 분석도 이루어지고 있다. 또한, 최근에 기후변화가 현실적인 문제로서 부각되면서 말라리아의 발생 문제에 대한 연구도 다각적으로 수행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 기후 인자 및 기후변화와 상관성이 높은 감염병 중에서 국내 발병자 수가 많아서 분석이 용이한 말라리아를 주요한 감염병으로 선정하고, 말라리아의 발생과 기후 인자와의 상관관계를 살펴보고, 이를 바탕으로 기후 인자에 따른 말라리아의 발생을 모의할 수 있는 모형을 구축하고, 실제 적용성을 검증하였다. 이를 위하여 2001년부터 2011년까지의 월간 말라리아 감염병 발생 현황과 전국 기상대의 기후인자를 수집하였다. 말라리아와의 상관 분석을 위해서 포함된 기후인자는 평균기온($^{\circ}C$), 상대습도(%), 강수량(mm)을 이용하여 연관성을 분석하였으며, 이를 회귀 모형화 하였다. 연구결과, 구축된 회귀 모형이 말라리아 발생자료에 대한 설명력이 있는 것으로 나타났다.
