A Speaker Array System for Sound Spotlight in a Reverberant Environment (반향 환경에서의 스피커 어레이를 이용한 소리 집중 기술)

  • This paper proposes an efficient speaker array system to spotlight a sound into a target position in a reverberant environment. The proposed method introduces a criterion of maximizing the energy of system response from each channel to the target position. Simulation results with a sixteen channel speaker array system prove that the performance of the proposed method improves that of the conventional method that uses a broadband beamformer in a reverberant environment.

Prediction of watermelon sweetness using a reflected sound (반향 소리를 이용한 기계 학습 기반 수박의 당도 예측)

  • There are various approaches to evaluate a watermelon sweetness. However, there are some limitations to evaluating cost, watermelon damage, and subjective issue. In this study, we developed a novel approach to predict a watermelon sweetness using reflected sound and the machine learning algorithm. It was observed that higher brix watermelon produced higher spectral power is reflected sound. Based on the spectral-temporal features of reflected sound, the machine learning algorithms could accurately predict the sweetness group at a rate of 83.2 and 59.6 % in 2-groups and 3-groups classification, respectively.

  • 강당, 회의실, 강의실 등과 같은 닫혀진 공간에서 포착된 소리의 질은 반향음과 간섭 잡음 등에 의해 영향을 받는다. 마이크로폰에 수신되는 신호는 직접전달파와 벽면에 의한 반사파들이 더해지므로 해서 실제 발생음을 명확히 얻기가 어렵다. 수신측 마이크로폰에서 반사음의 영향을 제거하면 실제 발생음에 가까운 양질의 소리를 얻을 수 있을 것이다. 잡음과 반향음의 영향이 큰 음향 공간에서 고음질의 소리를 얻기 위한 방법으로 마이크로폰 배열의 병렬 신호 처리 기법이 있다. 본 연구에서 제시된 마이크로폰 배열의 병렬 신호처리 기법은 공간적 음량 선택성을 제공하기 위해 각 마이크로폰 센서들의 matched filter 처리와 병렬 처리 기법을 결합한다. 이 기법은 다중경로 왜곡(반향)과 간섭 잡음을 제거하는 수단을 제공한다.

Real-Time Sound Localization System For Reverberant And Noisy Environment (반향음과 잡음 환경을 고려한 실시간 소리 추적 시스템)

  • Sound localization algorithm usually adapts three step process: sampling sound signals, estimating time difference of arrival between microphones, estimate location of sound source. To apply this process in indoor environment, sound localization algorithm must be strong enough against reverberant and noisy condition. Additionally, calculation efficiency must be considered in implementing real-time sound localization system. To implement real-time robust sound localization system we adapt four low cost condenser microphones which reduce the cost and total calculation load. And to get TDOA(Time Differences of Arrival) of microphones we adapt GCC-PHAT(Generalized Cross Correlation-Phase Transform) which is robust algorithm to the reverberant and noise environment. The position of sound source was calculated by using iterative least square algorithm which produce highly accurate position data.

Echolocation Call Differences among Local Populations of Greater Horseshoe Bats (Rhinolophus ferrumequinum) (관박쥐 (Rhinolophus ferrumequinum)의 지역개체군 간 반향정위 (Echolocation)의 차이)

  • Geographical isolation may lead to the populations having different ecological characteristics. Geographic isolation have been known to cause echolocation call differences in bats. In order to look at geographic differences of echolocation calls of Great Horseshoe Bats (Rhinolophus ferrumequinum), populations of inland and Jeju island habitats were examined in Korea. The study areas were some abandoned mines in the inland and caves of Jeju island, which were known as rest sites of Great Horseshoe Bats during the active season. Recording was done in two ways: Hand-held, Free-flying. Recording pulse was analyzed into five parameters: Maximum Frequency (FMAX), Minimum Frequency (FMIN), Peak Frequency (PF), Duration (D), Inter pulse Interval (IPI). Interestingly, The present study shows that the difference in echolocation between the inland and island populations. The PF of bats inhabited inland was 69 kHz. but, the PF of bats inhabited island (Jeju) was 71 kHz. There was a difference between regions. Discriminant analyses also showed clear difference between the inland and the island populations. Especially, PF of Korea population is lower than that of Europe (82 kHz) and higher than that of Japan (65 kHz).

  • 사람들의 TV 시청 경향을 조사해보면, 시청 도중에 다른 매체를 사용하거나 일을 하면서 소리만 듣는 경우가 많이 있다. 이 경우 화면 출력을 위한 전력 낭비의 문제가 있다. 본 논문에서는 이를 효율적으로 해결하기 위한 기술에 대하여 제안한다. 제안한 방법에서는 키넥트 센서를 이용하여 깊이 및 컬러 영상을 촬영하고 분석하여 사람들이 TV시청을 하지 않을 경우 화면을 자동으로 꺼 주고, 사람이 나타나면 다시 켜주는 형태로 동작한다. 기존 절전 기능이 단지 인간의 습관에 의존하거나, 센서 반향을 이용해 물체의 유무를 따진 후 전원을 완전히 차단하는 등 단순한 방법에 의존하였음에 비해 제안하는 방법은 대상의 움직임을 추적하여 좀 더 세밀하고 효과적인 절전을 가능하도록 한다.

Application and Technology of Voice Synthesis Engine for Music Production (음악제작을 위한 음성합성엔진의 활용과 기술)

  • Differently from instruments which synthesized sounds and tones in the past, voice synthesis engine for music production has reached to the level of creating music as if actual artists were singing. It uses the samples of human voices naturally connected to the different levels of phoneme within the frequency range. Voice synthesis engine is not simply limited to the music production but it is changing cultural paradigm through the second creations of new music type including character music concerts, media productions, albums, and mobile services. Currently, voice synthesis engine technology makes it possible that users input pitch, lyrics, and musical expression parameters through the score editor and they mix and connect voice samples brought from the database to sing. New music types derived from such a development of computer music has sparked a big impact culturally. Accordingly, this paper attempts to examine the specific case studies and the synthesis technologies for users to understand the voice synthesis engine more easily, and it will contribute to their variety of music production.

Global Advertising Creative Trend Based on 2019 Cannes Lion Winners (2019 칸 국제광고제(Cannes Lions)를 통해서 본 글로벌 광고 크리에이티브 트렌드)

  • This study, after analyzing 2019 Cannes Lion winners, suggests five creative trends. It was found that these global five creative trends are multi-sensory experience, integration between data and creativity, real humanism, brand activist, and consideration for socially disadvantaged. Not only visual impact or stimulus, but audio or scent could be utilized in an effort to stimulate consumers and promote brands. In 2019 Cannes Lions advertising campaigns which sought to find consumer insight through data and apply it to creativity received applause from Cannes Lions judges. In addition, advertising campaigns based on real humanism suggest that attitudes are best changed through positive experiences. Nike's 'Dream Crazy' campaign is a good example which shows a company's philosophy and brand purposes. Brands are becoming activists and are being encouraged to take real action, and for good reason. Lastly, projects such as Ikea's 'ThisAbles' and Microsoft's 'Xbox Adaptive Controller' are contrived for the socially disadvantaged.
