This study examined the effect of the SSI argumentation program based on social and emotional learning(SEL). The program consisted of 3 stages: (1) express their own feelings about SSI, identify the issues of SSI, and define a goal; (2) think of many possible solutions and envision results through argumentation; (3) select the best solution and make a decision based on warrants, data, and rebuttals. In each stage, the social-emotional strategies of self-awareness, self-management, social-awareness, relationship-management, and responsible decision making were used. Seventeen preservice biology teachers participated in this study during one semester dealing with four socioscientific issues. The results indicated that the preservice teachers, as time went on, became accustomed to expressing identifiable rebuttals, dispute talk, and asking questions. At the first SSI argumentation, argumentation mainly consisted of cumulative talk with no rebuttals, representing level 2 argumentation. Level 3 argumentation represented rebuttals that were implicit and weak, with cumulative talk. In level 2 and 3 argumentation, the preservice teachers represented understanding of others and compassion for self and others. Level 4 argumentation had rebuttals that were explicit, asking critical questions of the opposite sides. In addition, level 5 argumentation represented more than two controversial points with several instances of dispute talk. In levels 4 and 5, the preservice teachers became actively engaged in communication, inquiry self with others, managing vulnerability and negotiation.

In his paper "Structural Equations Approach to Token Causation: The Active Route Account Revisited" Professor Sungsu Kim defends the active route account. The active route account is the theory of causation which overcomes counterexamples to the counterfactual theories of causation, while maintaining the counterfactual theorist's essential intuition that an effect depends counterfactually on a cause. Unfortunately, there are counterexamples to the active route account itself. Professor Sungsu Kim attempts to defend the active route account by rebutting those counterexamples. In this paper, I argue that his defense of the active route account is not successful.

It takes much of times and efforts for mathematical knowledge to be regarded as truth. Mathematical knowledge has been added, and modified, and even proved to be false. Mathematical knowledge consists of mathematical languages, statements, reasonings, questions, metamathematical views. These elements have been changed constantly by investigations and refutations of mathematicians, by modification of proofs considering the refutations, by introduction of new concepts, by additions of questions about new concepts, by efforts to get answers to new questions, by attempts to apply previous studies to the present, constantly. This study introduces the change of mathematical knowledge instituted by filcher, and presents examples of the change.

As a design research, this study aims to identify students' collaborative problems solving patterns using the Wiki and design factors triggering MKB(mathematical knowledge building) in virtual environment. For 70 days, 14 Korean secondary gifted students, who enrolled in calculus II courses in one of gifted institutions in Korea, solved 10 math problems together using the Wiki. In this study, I considered five design factors; motivation, practice of LaTeX, norms of participation, epistemic agency, and two types of educational settings. The primary pattern emergent in students' collaborative problem solving process is identified as 'solutions and refutations' along the double helix consisting of the constructive line and the critical line, which is very similar to the pattern of 'Conjectures and Refutations'(Lakatos, 1976). Despite that most participants had difficulty in using LaTeX for mathematical expressions, this study shows that Wikis are valuable tools for providing Korean secondary students opportunities to learn social virtue such as humility and courage (Lampert, 1990), which is considered to be have been neglected in Korean educational environment but is emphasized as precious for doing mathematics in the field of mathematics education.

Recent research has shown that elementary school students can experience epistemic affect -emotions and feelings experienced within epistemic practices, such as the enjoyment of having a wonderful idea or uncomfortable feeling of at a cognitive dissonance- during modeling process. This study explores how an introverted elementary student could participate in the modeling process by constructing an epistemic affect. Based on the theory of constructed emotion, we analyzed one elementary student's constructed epistemic affect using data resources such as emotion diaries, video recordings, and post interviews. We selected one introverted student (a fifth grader), showing peripheral and full participation during modeling. Specifically, we explored which emotions were constructed when she participated in modeling peripherally -and which epistemic affect was constructed when she participated fully- during the construction, evaluation, and revision processes. The research results showed, first, that the introverted elementary student came to participate in the model construction process by constructing the epistemic affect called aha. Second, the results showed that she came to participate in the model revision process by constructing the epistemic affect called feeling that the reasoning was wrong when confronting the rebuttals of the other student. Finally, she came to participate in the model evaluation process by constructing the epistemic affect called dislike of another student's idea. Through our exploration of the constructed epistemic affect of the introverted elementary student, we deduced that it is important to help each student to construct an epistemic affect that facilitates his or her participation in modeling. Also, we discussed that it is important to understand the impact of the emotional load that can occur for each student, depending on the constructed past, present, and future emotions.

하림의 양돈산업 진출로 촉발된 계열화사업은 올해 양계업계의 화두라 해도 과언이 아니다. 대기업이 양돈산업까지 진출해 양돈 농가들을 이른바 '소작농'으로 전락시킬 수 있다는 주장이 제기되면서 계약문제 등을 포함한 계열화사업 전반에 대한 문제의식이 높아졌다. 계열업체들은 규모의 경제를 앞세워 다국적 식품 회사들과 당당하게 경쟁하기 위해서는 계열화사업은 불가피하다는 입장을 내세우고 있지만 농가들은 지금의 계열화 구조로는 선진국의 계열화 사업을 따라잡을 수 없다는 반박논리를 세우고 있다. 특히 생산원가가 보장되지 않은 상황에서 무조건 규모화만을 내세우는 계열사들의 논리는 농업의 특수성을 무시한 채 배부른 사람만 배부르게 만드는 일반 시장경쟁에 농업을 내치는 처사라고 강하게 반발하고 있다.

필자는 이 글에서 박병철의 저서 Phenomenological Aspects of Wittgenstein's Philosophy (Kluwer 1998)에 대한 박정일 박사의 서평과 김영건 박사의 비판에 대한 반론을 제시하고 있다. 먼저 현상학과 현상론의 구분이 불분명하다는 비판에 대한 반론에서 시작하여, 유아론에 대한 비판을 반박하고 있으며, "논리-철학 논고"에서의 대상의 본성에 대한 견해도 밝히고 있다. 필자는 무엇보다도 자신의 시도가 여전히 불투명한 비트겐슈타인의 철학을 놓고 벌어지는 다양한 해석의 스펙트럼의 한 부분을 이룰 수 있을 것이라고 주장한다.
