  • In this study, 3D networked poly(sodium acrylate) gel was polymerized and controlled with the crosslinking environment to evaluate the mechanical properties and swelling behavior. In general, as the degree of crosslinking in a pre-gelled solution increases, the swelling ratio of the 3D networked gel decrease while the mechanical strength of the gel increases. Interestingly, this study demonstrates that the polymerization and crosslinking efficiency in gelling process could be depended on the crosslinking environment by evaluating the number of elastically cross-links in 3D networked gel. As a result, the number of elastically corss-links would be changed with 3.6 times as varying of the crosslinking environment while keeping the degree of crosslinking. It is expected that the 3D networked gel would be optimized as an effective absorbing agent for VOCs by using the gel evaluation method based on the number of elastically cross-links.

  • A seismic refraction study in estimation of depth to the bedrock demonstrates that 1) the average velocity in the medium is about 250 m/s in the surface layer (< 4 m), 2,500 m/s in the weathered formation, and greater than 3,000 m/s in the bedrock, 2) the depth to the deepest reflector assumed to be the bedrock is about 17 m; however, according to the cores collected in a borehole in study area, the bedrock (granite) occurred at depth 25 m, 3) according to the density and velocity logging, at depth 17 m, a measurable velocity and density increase are observed, and 4) the velocity of the weathered formation is relatively high and therefore, the acquisition offsets ($70{\sim}80m$) are turned out not to be long enough to record the refracted signal from the bedrock at depth 25 m as first arrivals.

  • The objective of this paper is to compare spatial prediction capabilities of univariate kriging algorithms for generating GIS-based thematic maps from ground survey data with asymmetric distributions. Four univariate kriging algorithms including traditional ordinary kriging, three non-linear transform-based kriging algorithms such as log-normal kriging, multi-Gaussian kriging and indicator kriging are applied for spatial interpolation of geochemical As and Pb elements. Cross validation based on a leave-one-out approach is applied and then prediction errors are computed. The impact of the sampling density of the ground survey data on the prediction errors are also investigated. Through the case study, indicator kriging showed the smallest prediction errors and superior prediction capabilities of very low and very high values. Other non-linear transform based kriging algorithms yielded better prediction capabilities than traditional ordinary kriging. Log-normal kriging which has been widely applied, however, produced biased estimation results (overall, overestimation). It is expected that such quantitative comparison results would be effectively used for the selection of an optimal kriging algorithm for spatial interpolation of ground survey data with asymmetric distributions.

  • An autonomous driving system is based on the deep learning system built by big data which are obtained by various IoT sensors. The miniaturization and high performance of the IoT sensors are needed for diverse devices including the autonomous driving system. Specially, the miniaturization of the sensors leads to compel the miniaturization of the fixer structures. In the viewpoint of the miniaturization, metallic structure is a best solution to attach the small IoT sensors to the main body. However, it is hard to manufacture the small metallic structure with a conventional machining process or manufacturing cost greatly increases. As one of solutions for the problems, in this work, metallic FDM (Fused depositon modeling) based on metallic filament was proposed and the FDM process was investigated to fabricate the small metallic structure. Final part was obtained by the post-process that consists of debinding and sintering. In this work, the relationship between infill rate and the density of the part after the post-process was investigated. The investigation of the relationship is based on the fact that the infill rate and the density obtained from the post-processing is not same. It can be said that this work is a fundamental research to obtain the higher density of the printed part.

  • According to the data analysis of the regional fracture systems in southern Korea, the fracture orientations show three dominant sets : NNE, NW and WNW. A NNE set is the most abundant and includes most of the largest fractures. The highest fracture density is shown in the Taebaegsan mineralized area corresponding to Ogchon nonmetamorphic belt and the lowest one in the southwestern area of southern Korea. In addition, the density is higher in nonmetamorphic sedimentary rocks such as Choseon Supergroup. Pyeongan Supergroup, Daedong Supergroup and Kyeongsang Supergroup than in Precambrian basements and Jurassic granites. The regional fractures in southern Korea can be classified into four orders designated $F_1,{\;}F_2,{\;}F_3{\;}and{\;}F_4${\;}and{\;}F_4$ on the basis of their trace length. It is quite significant that fractures of each order are self-similar with respect to orientation and the combined fracture length distribution indicates a power-law distribution with an exponent of -2.04. As fractures were analyzed based on the tectonic provinces, Gyeonggj Massif and Kyeongsang Basin have all orders of fractures from $F_1$ to $F_4$. Most of the large scale faults may be ascribed to the products of slip accumulation through multiple deformation. Others besides $F_1$ fractures are thought to be evenly distributed through the whole area of southern Korea.

  • In wireless sensor networks, a moving object tracking scheme is one of core technologies for real applications such as environment monitering and enemy moving tracking in military areas. However, no works have been carried out on processing the failure of object tracking in sparse sensor networks with holes. Therefore, the energy consumption in the existing schemes significantly increases due to plenty of failures of moving object tracking. To overcome this problem, we propose a novel moving object tracking scheme based on polynomial regression prediction in sparse sensor networks. The proposed scheme activates the minimum sensor nodes by predicting the trajectory of an object based on polynomial regression analysis. Moreover, in the case of the failure of moving object tracking, it just activates only the boundary nodes of a hole for failure recovery. By doing so, the proposed scheme reduces the energy consumption and ensures the high accuracy for object tracking in the sensor network with holes. To show the superiority of our proposed scheme, we compare it with the existing scheme. Our experimental results show that our proposed scheme reduces about 47% energy consumption for object tracking over the existing scheme and achieves about 91% accuracy of object tracking even in sensor networks with holes.

  • In this study, we analyze the structure of the Korea-Japan Joint Development Zone (JDZ) using gravity, magnetic, and seismic data. Gravity and magnetic data analysis confirmed that the Jeju Basin exhibits low anomalies compared to adjacent areas. We applied the total gradient to the Bouguer anomaly to identify basin boundaries, and computed the analytic signal from the total magnetic anomaly data to enhance the edges of the magnetic anomalies. The Taiwan-Sinzi Belt, exhibits high magnetic anomalies and crosses the center of the JDZ in the northeast-southwest direction; we presume that intrusive rocks are sporadic in the JDZ. The 3D inversion results of the gravity and magnetic data show a strong correlation between magnetic susceptibility and density (i.e. a low-density zone in the Jeju Basin and the Ho Basin, and a high magnetic susceptibility distribution in the Taiwan-Sinzi Belt). Comparison of the density and seismic profiles of the Jeju Basin shows that high densities are associated with sill, horst, and basement highs, whereas low densities are associated with basement low and grabens. These results suggest that interpretations based on seismic, gravity and magnetic data can effectively reveal the subsurface structure of the JDZ.

  • The CNTFET, which is attracting attention as a next-generation semiconductor device, can obtain ballistic or near-ballistic transport at a lower voltage than that of conventional MOSFETs by depositing CNTs between the source and drain of the device. In order to increase the performance of the CNTFET, a large number of CNTs must be deposited at a high density in the CNTFET. Thus, various manufacturing processes to increase the density of the CNTs have been developed. Recently, the Directional Shrinking Transfer Method was developed and showed that the current density of the CNTFET device could be increased up to 150 uA/um. So, this method enhances the possibility of implementing a CNTFET-based integrated circuit. In this paper, we will discuss how to evaluate the performance of the CNTFET device compared to a MOSFET at the circuit level when the CNTFET is fabricated by the Directional Shrinkage Transfer Method.

  • In wireless sensor networks, energy is the most important consideration because the lifetime of the sensor node is limited by battery. The clustering is the one of methods used to manage network energy consumption efficiently and LEACH(Low-Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy) is one of the most famous clustering algorithms. LEACH utilizes randomized rotation of cluster-head to evenly distribute the energy load among the sensor nodes in the network. The random selection method of cluster-head does not guarantee the number of cluster-heads produced in each round to be equal to expected optimal value. And, the cluster head in a high-density cluster has an overload condition. In this paper, we proposed both a token based cluster-head selection algorithm for guarantee the number of cluster-heads and a cluster selection algorithm for uniform-density cluster. Through simulation, it is shown that the proposed algorithm improve the network lifetime about 9.3% better than LEACH.

  • LiDAR, unlike satellite imagery and aerial photographs, which provides irregularly distributed three-dimensional coordinates of ground surface, enables three-dimensional modeling. In this study, urban area was classified based on 3D information collected by LiDAR. Morphological and spatial properties are determined by the ratio of ground and non-ground point that are estimated with the number of ground reflected point data of LiDAR raw data. With this information, the residential and forest area could be classified in terms of height and density of trees. The intensity of the signal is distinguished by a statistical method, Jenk's Natural Break. Vegetative area (high or low density) and non-vegetative area (high or low density) are classified with reflective ratio of ground surface.
