The purpose of this study is to promote growth as a professional counselor based on the process of giving meaning to and recognizing their experiences through insight into the unconscious. Therefore, we used dream-integrated art therapy to have a process of recognizing unconscious dreams that clearly express expectations for oneself, others, and the world, and to explore this process more flexibly. The research participants selected three students enrolled in the master's and doctor's courses from among the applicants who applied through public relations and adopted the phenomenological Giorgi research method for data collection and analysis through in-depth interviews with the research participants. The main research results are as First, the intern counselors had a motive for wanting their own unconscious insight through dream-integrated art therapy and were able to gain insight into the problems revealed in their unconscious through dreams, music, and art media. Second, it was found that the intern counselors felt a deepening of concentration and comfort through recent dreams, music, and art media in common. Third, as a defense mechanism that was revealed without the combination of dream integrated art therapy, the avoidance tendency of not wanting to reveal oneself was common, but this showed a gradual decrease. Fourth, it was reported that intern counselors gained flexibility for themselves about the future growth direction had an opportunity to accept themselves, and had a plan for the future direction to become professional counselors. Therefore, it is suggested that follow-up studies using various media, studies to verify the effectiveness of the dream integration program, and various case studies are necessary.

  • Expert system implementation of human expert's diagnosis in art psychotherapy requires extensive knowledge on: (1) characteristics in a drawing; (2) psychological symptoms in a client; (3) relationships between the characteristics and the symptoms; (4) decision process; (5) knowledge elicitation and aquisition methods. Experts from many different fields provide such knowledge, ranging from art therapists who is on the spot, psychiatrists, psychologists, artists to knowledge engineers who know how to implement the decision system to a computer. The problems that make the implementation difficult are the expert's complex decision process and the ambiguity, the inconsistency and even the contradiction in the huge volume of the knowledge. Modeling the expert's decision process, we develope a framework of the system and then analyze and classify the knowledge. With the proposed classification, we present a suitable method of knowledge elicitation and aquisition. Then, we describe the subsets of knowledge in a unified structure using the ontology concept and Protege 2000 as a tool. Finally, we apply the system to a real case to show its usability and suitability.

  • This study aimed at examining an effect of a group art treatment program on isolated children's self-concept and adaptation to the school life in an elementary school. To achieve this goal, the two hypotheses were made. Hypothesis 1. Children in the experimental group that participated in the group art treatment program will show more improvement in self-concept than those in the control group. Hypothesis 2. Children in the experimental group that participated in the group art treatment program will show more improvement in the ability to adapt themselves to the school life than those in the control group. To test the hypotheses, the socio-emotional isolation test developed by Heo Seung-hi (1993) was carried out with 120 third-graders at K elementary school in Busan; then, 24 isolated children (12 boys and 12 girls) at the upper 25 percent level were randomly sampled and assigned to each of experimental and control groups. The five-stage art treatment program as a reconstruction of the prior study to meet the goal of this study was provided to children in the experimental group at the researcher's classroom after school for 13 sessions, two sessions per week. The self-concept test manufactured by Song In-seop (1996), the school life adaptation test developed by Lee Yeong-seon (1997), and the experimental group's school life drawing (KSD) were used to test an effect of the program. For data analysis, two methods, a quantitative analysis of two tests and a qualitative analysis of KSD, were used. The findings were as follows: After implementing the art treatment program with the experimental group, there was significant improvement in all areas. This study concluded that if a group art treatment program is applied to elementary school practice, it will help isolated children improve their self-concept and ability to adapt themselves to the school life.

Conclusion : The Mandala art therapy bas a potential to be used for medical diagnosis and treatment in the oriental medicine. Therefore, it is necessary to research and develop various Mandala art programs and assess their effectiveness through applications to medical cases.
