The immune activities of the extracts from Ephedrae Herba and Rubi Frutus extraction with ultrasonification at $60^{\circ}C$ were compared with the extracts though water extraction at $100^{\circ}C$. The growth of human T cells was increased up to $13{\times}10^4\;viable\;cells/m{\ell}$ in adding $1.0\;g/{\ell}$ of the ultrasonification extracts of R. Fructus at $60^{\circ}C$, compared to adding the extracts at $100^{\circ}C$. The secretion of $TNF-{\alpha}$ for human T cells were also increased up to $13.9{\times}10^{-4}$ pg/cell by adding extracts at $60^{\circ}C$, compared to extracts at $100^{\circ}C$. The extracts of R. Fructus at $60^{\circ}C$ increased NK cell activities up to 50% and the secretion of $NO^{-1}$ from macrophage to $31\;{\mu}M$ for ultrasonification extracts at $60^{\circ}C$.

The relationship between the orientation of molecules adsorbed on $_TiO2$ and their photoproducts was examined by employing HBPCA (4-hydroxy-biphenylcarboxylic acid) as a model organic pollutant. For this purpose, the Photoproducts after irradiation with UV radiation at various pH were compared by utilizing UV and Raman spectroscopies. It was found from these studies that pH affected the photoproducts probably due to the different orientations of the adsorbed molecules, and that the orientation of the adsorbed molecules and their photoproducts were closely correlated.
It confirmed the applicability as an anti-inflammatory material from Rubus occidentalis seed (RSE) extract. In HaCaT cells to evaluate the anti-inflammatory potential as a material RSE extract on the activity of the inflammatory factors caused by UVB and $IFN-{\gamma}/TNF-{\alpha}$. We measured the activity of ROS, interleukin-$1{\beta}$ ($IL-1{\beta}$), interleukin-6 (IL-6) and interleukin-8 (IL-8) by ROS-Glo $H_2O_2$ assay and ELISA kit. Our results showed that the RSE extracts inhibit the UVB and $IFN-{\gamma}/TNF-{\alpha}$-induced ROS activities and expression of $IL-1{\beta}$, IL-6 and IL-8 in a dose-dependent manner. Also it was found that inflammatory mediators of the expression of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibition were also brought, the expression of which is increased $PGE_2$ by COX-2 also inhibited. Finally RSE extracts measure the seed expression of filaggrin in the skin barrier, the main factor of the extract could be confirmed to increase the expression of the filaggrin damaged as a result of this concentration-dependent manner. Through this, it was able to confirm that the efficacy RSE extract to protect the inflammation by restoring the damaged layers of the epidermis. Results from more than RSE extract was able to confirm that the extract that has anti-inflammatory effects by improving the inflammation being produced from UVB.
This study investigated the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of seed ethanol extracts from Rubus coreanus Miquel (SERC). To investigate the antioxidant activity, total polyphenol and flavonoid content, ABTS and DPPH radical scavenging activity, and reducing power were measured. The total polyphenol and flavonoid contents in seed ethanol extracts of R. coreanus Miq. were 4.09 ㎍ gallic acid equivalents (GAE)/mg and 16.25 ㎍ quercetin equivalents (QE)/mg, respectively. DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activity showed concentration-dependent scavenging activity, and the RC50 values of SERC were 26.68 ㎍/mL and 39.30 ㎍/mL, respectively. Moreover, the ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assay was performed to assess the reducing power, and SERC showed 0.61 ± 0.01 mM FeSO4 E/mg. To measure the anti-inflammatory effect, the cytotoxicity and nitric oxide (NO) production inhibitory efficacy in RAW 264.7 cells was confirmed. SERC showed a NO production inhibitory effect at 500 ㎍/mL without cytotoxicity. As a result of verifying the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity using SERC, its potential as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory material was confirmed.
Water has the melting point, the boiling point, the heat of fusion, and the heat of vaporization all much higher than would be normally expected from the hydrogen compounds of the other members of the oxygen family. Another unique characteristic of ice-Ⅰ is its volume decrease which takes place in its melting. A number of significant efforts have been made in the past to explain these properties quantitatively. The authors, reasoning from the unusually great free surface energy of water and the characteristic volume change on melting, propose the structural model of liquid water as follows. On melting, fluidized vacancies of a molecular size are introduced. Thereupon, for the unusually great surface energy density, molecules surrounding the vacancies become to have close packed arrangement. But molecules not in direct contact with vacancies should still possess the original structure i. e., ice-Ⅰ. When a molecule adjacent to a vacancy jumps into the vacancy, the molecule attains the gaslike degree of freedom. Using the above model, the authors had developed the liquid partition function of water by applying the theory of significant structures in liquids. Molar volume, vapor pressure, entropy of fusion and entropy of vaporization were calculated over a wide temperature range. The results show good agreement with experimental observations.
From 7 different medicinal herbs, Rubus coreanus miquel, Therminalia chebula Retz and Rhus javanica was selected by paper disk method against 10 different microorganisms. The ethanol extracts of selected herbs was added into Tofu, and the total viable cell counts was determined. After 4 days, total viable cell count reached to $10^7$ and the Tofu putrefacted. The tested sample added with 0.01% of Terminalia Chebula Retz extract, the shelf-life was extended as 108.8%, with 0.05% was 117.3% and with 0.1% was 132.6%. Among 3 kinds of medicinal herb, Therminalia chebula Retz has better powerful activity than others.
A number of investigators have reported the formation of the radiolytic ultrafine particles produced by the interaction of ionizing radiation with water vapor. Previous studies have suggested that a very high localized concentration of the OH radical produced by the radiolysis of water can react with trace gas like organic vapors and produce lower vapor pressure compounds that can then nucleate. In order to determine water vapor dependence of the active, positively charged, first radon daughter(Po-218), an experiment was conducted using a well-controlled radon chamber. The activity size distribution of the radon daughter in the range of 0.5-100nm was measured using the parallel graded wire screens system. Measurements were taken for different relative humidity. The resultant activity size distributions were analyzed. The addition of water vapor to the radon carrier gases resulted in the formation of ultrafine particles by OH radicals formed by radon radiolysis. It may be due to the neutralization of charged Po-218 ion with water vapor through the radio lysis.
In this study, in order to build a molecular dynamics simulation model of ionomer for water electrolysis, an ionomer model that reflects the characteristics of a water electrolysis system in which excess water molecules exist was compared to an ionomer built according to the conventional simulation method of the fuel cells membrane. The final ionomer MD models have a strong phase separation and water channel that is one of the important characteristics of the perfluorinated ionomer, and are stable and water-insoluble under excessive water and high temperature conditions. In the ionomer MD models built in this study, the excess water molecules decrease an ion conductivity due to the dilution of ions, but increase a hydrogen diffusivity. Therefore, it is necessary to design the molecular structure of ionomers for water electrolysis in experimental studies as well as molecular dynamics studies according to the characteristics of the water electrolysis system reported in this study.

Antioxidative activities of methanol extracts of 7 natural products which have been orientally used or studied as ophthalmic drugs were investigated. All of 7 extracts assayed - Rubus coreanus, Dendrobium monile, Eriocaulon sieboldianum, Ligustrum japonicum, Cassia tora, Cicadae Periostacum and Polygonatum odoratum var pluriflorum had some electron-donating ability to OPPH radicals, in which R. coreanus and D. monile showed strong activity as similar as ascorbic acid or BHT. At the concentration of $200{\mu}g/m{\ell}$, methanol extract of L. japonicum showed superoxide dismutase-like activity the same as 0.1 mM ascorbic acid and methanol extract of R. coreanus inhibited effectively the production of ABTS radical produced by $H_2O_2$. Furthermore, methanol extract of C. tora showed the highest nitrite scavenging ability. The inherent antioxidative activities of these natural products appear to be responsible for its ophthalmic effects.
