The objectives of this research are to evaluate the effect of membrane materials, particulate matter and membrane pore size on permeate flux. It was shown that the removal efficiency of high MW organic matter more than 10 kDa was lower than that of low MW organic matter for $MIEX^{(R)}$ process. For the change of permeate flux by the pretreatment process, $MIEX^{(R)}+UF$ process showed high removal efficiency of organic matter as compared with coagulation+UF processes, but high reduction rate of permeate flux was presented through the reduction of removal efficiency of high MW organic matter. The pretreatment of the raw water significantly reduced the fouling of the hydrophilic membrane, but did not decrease the flux reduction of the hydrophobic membrane. Flux decline on MF process increased due to the pore clogging, while the permeate flux decline of UF process decreased due to the formation of cake layer. It was shown that particle matter was not effect on MIEX+membrane process. But, for coagulation+membrane process, particle matter was important factor on permeate flux.
Nondestructive deterioration diagnosis has been carried out for the former ore dressing plant of the Yongwha mine in Yeongyang (Registered Cultural Property No. 255). Deterioration rates about organic contaminant and soil of the upper part (7 to 13 layer) indicate higher than the lower part (1 to 6 layer) of the ore dressing plants. By contrast, deterioration rates such as crack, break out and discoloration of the lower part indicate very higher than the upper part. It is estimated that the plants of the lower part that mechanical and chemical process had been done for flotation were damaged severely by physicochemical weathering with reaction of concrete and chemical solution. As results of ultrasonic velocity measurement, average p-wave velocity of plants were measured 2,462m/s (compressive strength $529kgf/cm^2$). As for the analytical results of surface contaminants and soil compositions using P-XRF, they were identical with major elements (Cu, Zn, Pb, Fe and As) of ore minerals from the Yongwha mine. Therefore, the ore dressing plant should be treated by phytoremediation with conservation because heavy metals could impinged upon plants and natural environment.

Securing of radioactive waste disposal site and the related operations for disposal of low and intermediate level radioactive waste is being actively carried out in Korea. For disposal of radioactive wastes, physicochemical and radiological status and integrity of radioactive wastes must be secured first. Also, waste generators must provide this information to disposers. In addition, to secure the safety of waste disposal, waste acceptance criteria (WAC) and site specific waste acceptance criteria (SWAC) to consider characteristics of the disposal site are required. Radioactive wastes must be processed, generated, managed and transferred in accordance with these criteria. [1] For this, evaluation of properties on each of the radioactive wastes must be performed. However, in reality, atomic power plants are experiencing difficulties in relation to this due to the large quantity of radioactive waste generation. In order to solve this problem, IAEA and major overseas countries have developed, thus are using waste certification program (WCP) and quality assurance program (QAP) [2,3]. On the basis of these programs, radioactive waste certification program has been developed for safe disposal of radioactive wastes in Korea to satisfy the provisions specified in 'low and intermediate level radioactive waste transfer guidelines' of announcement No. 2005-18 from the Ministry of Science and Technology and specific site waste acceptance criteria (tentative plan). In addition, it is being planned to administer amendment on commercial atomic power plant related procedures and ensile staff training in order for early introduction and operation of radioactive waste certification system.

In this study, Anaerobic sewage sludge in a batch reactor operating at $35^{\circ}C$ was used as the seed to investigate the effect of pretreatments of waste activated sludge and to evaluate its hydrogen production potential by anaerobic fermentation. Various pretreatments including physical, chemical and biological means were conducted to utilize for substrate. As a result, SCODcr of alkali and mechanical treatment was 15 and 12 times enhanced, compared with a supernatant of activated sludge. And SCODcr was 2 time increase after re-treatment with biological hydrolysis. Those were shown that sequential hybridized treatment of sludge by chemical & biological methods is most efficient process for sludge treatment. The pre-treatment activated sludge was tested to conform hydrogen production potential in batch experiments. When buffer solution was added to the activated sludge, hydrogen production potential increased as compare with no addition.
Growth stimulatory material for lactic acid bacteria was extracted from radish and radish green juice and its growth stimulatory effect was tested. Dried methanol-precipitated growth stimulatory material was lightly grayish white powder, Its ash content is 44% and approximately 50% of the ash is sulfur. It has reddish brown color upon solubilization in water. The material had unchanged stimulatory effect when it was treated with proteinase or pectinase, or ashed. The growth stimulatory activity was dialyzable. The material was able to counteract the growth inhibitory effect of EDTA. When selected lactic acid bacteria were grown at $30^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours in peptone(0.5%)-yeast extract(0.5%)-glucose(2%) broth with and without 0.5% growth stimulatory material, the material stimulated the growth of Lactobacillus plantarum, L. fermentum, L. leichmanii, L. sake, L. brevis, L. acidophilus, L. casei, Pediococcus pentosaceus, Leuconostoc mesenteroides, Streptococcus faecalis, S. lactis, S. cremoris and S. thermophilus by 19, 1833, 133, 444, 840, 32, 14, 18, 6, 17, 4, 5 and 4 times, respectively.
For effective teaching-learning activities for students with diverse talents in science high schools, it is important for teachers to understand students' individual differences in perceiving and processing information in the natural world, depending on the students' various talents and subject characteristics. The purpose of this study is to examine the students' cognition of chemistry in science high school through correlations and factor analysis of mathematics/science achievement. In addition, this study attempted to examine the cognition of chemistry subject according to R&E classes. The main participants of the study were freshmen of G science high school (296 students) who entered after three times of curriculum reforms and new admission processes and the students in two other science high schools in Gyeongnam and Ulsan were included. The correlation and factor analysis were conducted by exploratory factor analysis by IBM SPSS Statistics 25 programs. The results of this study were as follows: First, in the correlation analysis between mathematics and science achievement, it was confirmed that the Pearson's coefficient of chemistry showed higher positive correlation coefficient than that of other science subjects. Second, in the factor analysis of mathematics and science achievements, it was found that the factor indicators were divided into two factors as logical-mathematical (mathematics and physics) and naturalistic (life science and earth science). Third, in the factor analysis, it was confirmed that the chemistry is recognized as the subject that requires both logical-mathematical and naturalistic intelligence. Finally, it was confirmed that students' cognitions of chemistry subject were found to differ according to the R&E classes. In other words, the participants of R&E chemistry class, unlike other students, were found to recognize chemistry as the subject that logical-mathematical intelligence is needed.
This study was focused on iron removal from illite by L-ascorbic and oxalic acids. Iron has been shown as a secondary mineral such as iron oxides and hydroxides in illite ores. It is also known as a primary agent to degrade brightness index of the ores. Methods such as physical separation and chemical leaching with strong inorganic acids have been widely used to remove the iron from the ores. However, these methods are expensive and give rise to environmental problems. In this study, we examined an alternative method using solutions with different set of combination of sulfuric, hydrochloric, L-ascorbic, and oxalic acids. Compared to chemical treatments with only inorganic acids, our results demonstrate that an addition of L-ascorbic acid in inorganic acids results in decreasing both total concentrations of the inorganic acids and time for the treatments. The treatment with 0.15 M L-ascorbic acid and 0.25 M sulfuric acid in solution for 60 min significantly improved the brightness index from 42.4% to 74.4%. This improvement is similar to that of treatment with only 2.5 M sulfuric acid alone for 150 min. Mineralogical and chemical analyses were performed to compare the effect of acid leaching on illite powders. No obvious differences are observed in the mineralogical characteristics and particle size distributions of the samples. These results suggest that the treatment with the addition of L-ascorbic acid in sulfuric acid could effectively remove iron without modifying the physicochemical properties of illite under conditions used in this study.
In this sturdy, spherical activated carbon(SPAC) contained $TiO_2$ was made by ion-exchanged treatment and heat treatment for applying fluidizing bed system. The ion-exchange resin was treated by $TiCl_3$ aqueous solution. The treated resin and raw resin were heat-treated under nitrogen condition to convert into Ti-SPAC. During the heat-treatment, burn-off weight amounts and the element were measured by means of TGA and TGA/MS, individually. The physicochemical properties of Ti-SPAC was characterized by means of XRD, SEM, EDS, BET, EPMA, ESR, intensity and titanium content. The Ti-SPAC had spherical shape with diameter size about $350{\mu}m{\sim}400{\mu}m$ and $617m^2/g$ specific surface area. Structure of $TiO_2$ in Ti-SPAC was anatase and rutile form. Also, $TiO_2$ on SPAC were found that the $TiO_2$ were uniformly distributed through EPMA analysis. Moreover, the Ti-SPAC showed indirect photocatalyst activity estimation through ESR analysis, characteristics of photocatalyst potentially. Over all results, Ti-SPAC was used in fluidizing bed UV/photocatalyst system to remove HA(Humic Acid). That results were HA removal efficiency was about 70% and Ti-SPAC intensity was preserved during reaction. Ti-SPAC showed practical possibility as photocatalyst in fluidizing bed system.

In order to vitrify the Ion-Exchange Resin(IER), Dry Active Waste(DAW), and borate concentrate generated from the commercial nuclear facilities, the glass formulation study based on the their compositions was performed. Two glasses named as RG-1 and DG-1 were formulated as the candidate glasses for the vitrification of hte IER and DAW, respectively. A glass named as MG-1 was also formulated as a candidate glass for the vitrification of the mixed wastes containing the IER, DAW, and borate concentrate. The process parameters, product qualities, and economics were evaluated for the candidate glasses and confirmed experimentally for the some properties. The glass viscosity and electrical conductivity as the process parameters were in the desired ranges. the product qualities such as glass density, chemical durability, phase stability, etc. were satisfactory. In case of vitrifying the wastes using our developed glass formulation study, the volume reduction factors for the IER, DAW and mixed wastes were evaluated as 21, 89 and 75, respectively.
The total area of forest land in Korea is 64.2%, and significant forest resources can continuously be produced. However our country didn't separate the recyclable waste wood and was illegal landfill or incinerated. In this study, waste-wood and rice husk of biomass and low-grade-anthracite made refuse derived fuel by mixing and compressing. In addition, the binding effect of binders and additives were analyzed. Physical and chemical characteristics of manufactured refuse derived fuel were analyzed and evaluated suitability by compared with quality standards. A result of change with compressed and relaxed density, added 20% anthracite and 10% rice husk is optimal density change and average density increased large range when 20 wt.% P.V.A., guargum, molasses and 10 wt.% starch were added. All fuel samples be distributed over 3,500 kcal/kg LHV and grade of No. 3~4 fuels appeared. A result of the characteristics of physical and chemical compressed biomass refuse derived fuel with addictive, 12.9% of durability improvement appeared when is mixing asphalt and 5.8% of durability improvement appeared when is mixing rice bran by pretreatment of NaOH 5%.
