  • While Korea has actively discussed the fields of comics and animation, with an aim toward public art and publicity for cultural welfare, research on public cultural content for the underprivileged and their regions is in fact lacking. The Korean government has also tried to improve Korea's cultural welfare, but its benefits have failed to be evenly given to the underprivileged. Therefore, we need to take greater interest in the underprivileged and their regions. Korea should work to correct the unbalance among regions in the field of cultural welfare (cultural differences between the capital area and other regions, and between new towns and old), as well as improve the living environments of isolated areas. For this reason, such a public art project should be conducted from two directions. First, the underprivileged living in poor conditions should be allowed to live in clean and cultural environments. And second, public art, comics, and storytelling through animation should be formed with an eye on urban culture. This project aims to focus on improving "the quality of citizens' lives" through creating the unique characteristics and landscape of the city. It will be presented through the use of public art, which presents the elements of the city with charm and vitality. The two directions stated above are our urgent tasks. Public art, comics, and animation storytelling regarding the history, culture, and natural resources of the region will develop with the affection and pride of the citizens, and public art will help create an environment that allows people to discuss their issues. In addition, it will be cultural environments that will allow all citizens to enjoy beautiful streets and events. This project will be an opportunity to realize cultural democracy by pursuing social values such as publicity, communication, equality, and participation.

  • New Recently introduced to domestic market, MMA(Mixed Martial Arts) is growing very rapidly, thereby acquiring the property of sub-culture. With its proper function of providing dynamism and vitality, it also becomes the target of apprehension for its social dysfunction due to excessive violence. However, it is important to recognize MMA as a phenomenon and to understand the cultural flow inside MMA. It is required that the space where MMA is held should provide new experience in each contest. It is necessary to prepare very diverse productions for this purpose. While comprehension on this cultural and spatial phenomenon could mean one of starting point of space creation of space designer, it is necessary to study in the contextual aspect including historic and psychological approach. Thus, this study aims to understand one of the diverse meanings of modem space by investigating the space inherent in the phenomenon of MMA.

Collaborative Planning Model for Brownfield Regeneration (브라운필드 재생을 위한 협력적 계획 모델 연구)

  • Unlike most other planning processes, brownfield planning generally requires a high level of technical and legal expertise due to potential site contamination. To successfully engage in inclusionary decision making, an adaptive collaboration strategy for brownfield planning is therefore critical. This study examines how a communicative planning approach can be used to overcome the challenge of enabling experts from different fields to work alongside lay people from the local community to achieve a properly balanced collaboration in brownfield planning. After identifying appropriate indicators for collaboration through a literature review of established communicative planning theory, these indicators are applied to the brownfield planning process, highlighting critical points of collaboration such as site prioritization, assessment, remediation, and redevelopment throughout. The results suggest the critical need for an adaptive model focusing on three aspects: 1. Facilitation of a balanced dialogue between the experts with social, cultural, and design-based knowledge and the ones with scientific and engineering-based knowledge, 2. Preparation of an appropriate tool for risk communication with the lay people, 3. Development of decision support system for the integration of expert-oriented technical data and public opinion-oriented subjective data.

  • 현대 지식 정보화 사회에서 컴퓨터 기술을 활용한 창의적 사고(思考)가 매우 중요한다. 다양한 정보기술을 어떤 방법으로 도출하고 활용하느냐에 따라 경제적, 사회적, 문화적으로 윤택한 생활을 영위할 수 있다. 광대역 종합정보통신네트워크의 발달과 더불어 온라인(On-line)에서 새로운 아이디어 프로그램은 다양한 산업분야에 활용될 수 있으며, 네트워크상의 상호작용으로 인한 시너지 효과는 멀티미디어정보서비스 산업을 더욱 발전시킬 수 있다. 본 논문은 지식 정보화 사회의 통합교육(장애인, 비장애인 대학생)에서 집단적 아이디어 발상을 통하여 문제해결 능력을 키우기 위하여 네트워크상에서 상호간의 창의적 사고 과정을 진행함으로서 오프라인(Off-line)에서의 산업디자인 개발에 대한 문제점들을 보안하고 해결하고자 한다. 첫째로, 온 오프라인에서의 통합교육학생들의 창의적 집단 아이디어 발상에 대한 방법을 비교 분석한다. 둘째로, 온 오프라인에서 아이디어 발상량을 분석하여 팀원간의 의사소통과 정보전달의 수단으로 이용하는 어플리케이션에 대한 발상적 사고요인을 연구한다. 이와 같은 연구를 통해서 IT(Information Technology) 기반의 창의적 집단 발상 교육이 통합교육에 차별화된 콘텐츠로 활용할 수 있도록 한다.

A Study on the Development of Bamboo Decorating Tiles (죽세장식타일 개발 연구)

  • A new functional meaning has been given as natural resource to bamboo through reanalysis. Bamboo products contributed to creating added-value of pro-environment. In this study, a potential efficiency and vision of bamboo products and crafts are presented. As bamboo plywood and bamboo decorating paper were developed followed by academic and technological support, an activation of markets has been pursued and bamboo pattern tiles for new furniture was developed. This study examined kinds and characteristics of bamboo and processing of raw material and how to express with the material. Through advanced technology, it identified traditional functions and technological mistakes and analysed domestic and overseas applications to enhance utility of plywood made of bamboo. Bamboo pattern tiles were developed for decorating of furniture doors based on bamboo pattern paper. For patterns, 'tortoise, cranes, and deer'meaning eternity and new millenium among Ten Korean Longevity Animals are simply and lively represented. Series of the sun and mountain use effects of bamboo pieces to present bright images and to maximize quality of bamboo. A pattern of '卍'incorporates mystery of the cosmos and meaning of temples together with traditional patched wrapping cloth, Arirang and Chilgyopannori for beautiful ornamentation. Bamboo decorating tiles are made through accumulation of technologies by a cooperation with industries of bamboo equipment and production of furniture in Damyang Bamboo Products Complex. Processing of raw materials is peformed with equipment of Damyang. Development of samples and production and delivery of bamboo goods are handled in Design Venture of Chosun University Chamber. Developed goods decorating doors of furniture are in sale by an order from furniture industries.

  • This study deals with the visual quality in the future urban landscape and architectural environment, and as such, aims to identify a scientific and objective aesthetic and visual quality from the perspective of empirical aesthetics. The empirical aesthetics provides a framework that can be utilized in understanding human perception, consciousness, and behavior and a way to categorize the visual quality and to explain and predict its effect. The study examines various theories on environmental perception, cognition, and some new approaches to environmental aesthetics, and tries to present aesthetic properties that can be applied to environmental design. First, the aesthetic experience in visual perception can be defined as a combined effect of psychobiological properties and human activity, i.e. an interaction between the formal and symbolic signs in environment and the conceptual framework of man. The effect of visual quality differs and varies a great deal, depending on the sociocultural, personal and collective value system, so it is hard to define it in absolute terms. Second, the impact of visual quality and its aesthetic effect has to do with pleasure, preference, the aptitude for survival, and self regulation. Third, aesthetics is one of the areas that can benefit a great deal from an interdisciplinary approach. and an empirical study such as this can be used as a basis for design, planning, and evaluation.

Digital Hologram Compression Technique By Hybrid Video Coding (하이브리드 비디오 코팅에 의한 디지털 홀로그램 압축기술)

  • According as base of digital hologram has been magnified, discussion of compression technology is expected as a international standard which defines the compression technique of 3D image and video has been progressed in form of 3DAV which is a part of MPEG. As we can identify in case of 3DAV, the coding technique has high possibility to be formed into the hybrid type which is a merged, refined, or mixid with the various previous technique. Therefore, we wish to present the relationship between various image/video coding techniques and digital hologram In this paper, we propose an efficient coding method of digital hologram using standard compression tools for video and image. At first, we convert fringe patterns into video data using a principle of CGH(Computer Generated Hologram), and then encode it. In this research, we propose a compression algorithm is made up of various method such as pre-processing for transform, local segmentation with global information of object image, frequency transform for coding, scanning to make fringe to video stream, classification of coefficients, and hybrid video coding. Finally the proposed hybrid compression algorithm is all of these methods. The tool for still image coding is JPEG2000, and the toots for video coding include various international compression algorithm such as MPEG-2, MPEG-4, and H.264 and various lossless compression algorithm. The proposed algorithm illustrated that it have better properties for reconstruction than the previous researches on far greater compression rate above from four times to eight times as much. Therefore we expect that the proposed technique for digital hologram coding is to be a good preceding research.

Measurement and Comparison of Emotions Felt by Each Type of Hanbok (한복 유형별로 느껴지는 감성의 측정과 비교)

  • Rental services have recently come to be provided in which people can experience traditional Korean culture in the form of Hanok villages, allowing everyone can easily rent and wear hanbok, a traditional Korean garment, regardless of gender and age. Users of hanbok rental services share photos of themselves wearing hanbok on social media, contributing to the increasing popularity of hanbok experiences. However, the trend of wearing hanbok has no become established in people's daily lives, apart from the specific places that offer hanbok experiences. To promote hanbok as everyday clothes, hanbok design should be developed to provide wearers with both convenience and emotional satisfaction. Using 28 emotion words that express consumers' emotions toward hanbok that were extracted from previous studies, this study measured consumers' emotions toward different types of hanbok with on a seven-point Likert scale. Emotion words and categories that obtained scores of five points or above, signifying a rating of "felt fairly" or higher in relation to specific hanbok types were extracted. This study also examined differences in the average scores for emotional categories according to hanbok types and gender. The results indicated that only average scores for the "favorable feeling" category showed a significant difference between men and women. Finally, differences in the average scores for emotional categories were examined by classifying hanbok types: traditional (e.g., baenaet-jeogori, saekdong-jeogori, traditional hanbok for adults, and traditional wedding clothes) and modern (e.g., daily hanbok for children, for women, and for men). The results indicated significant differences between traditional and modern hanbok in six emotional categories (i.e., the cheerful, esthetic, harmonious, fresh, favorable, and stable feeling). This study derived analytic results for terms related to emotions that hanbok wearers feel according to types of hanbok. The findings can be used by hanbok retailers and rental services to provide consumers with greater emotional satisfaction.

A Study on Materials and Colors between Nijo-Castle and Changdeok-Palace (니조성(二條城)과 창덕궁(昌德宮)을 통해 본 한ㆍ일 궁궐의 의장 특성 - 건축 외장 재료와 색채를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the characteristics of building materials and exterior colors of the traditional palaces in Korea and Japan. Nijo-Castle in Japan and Changdeok-Palace in Korea were selected for the subjects of the study. For the color measurement and analysis, NCS color system was used. The results of this study are as follows. In Changdeok-Palace, Korean pine woods, granites, tiles, blue tiles, clays, Jeon-dol(Korean unique tiles for fences and ground), lime powders, straws, Korean traditional papers, bronze were used for building materials. In Nijo-Castle, however, Japanese pine woods, granites, tiles, clays, lime powders, straws, Japanese traditional papers, bronze and golds were used. As for hues in Changdeok-Palace, Y to R, G ∼ G30Y, R80B∼B, B to G were used mainly, and in Nijo-castle, Y to R, B80G∼B90G, G30Y were found. As for tones in Changdeok-Palace, every kinds of tones were used except 'Deep chromatic' and in Nijo-Castle, 'Greyish chromatic', 'Toned light grey', 'Dark deep', 'Toned dark grey', 'Toned grey' were used. At this study, the building materials and exterior colors were analyized between Changdeok-Palace and Nijo-Castle. And from the results, it is expected that we would understand different cultures of two nations, and get the concept of making their own unique characteristics.

Research of the Neo-Confucianism and the development of Landscape painting in Song Dynasty (성리학(性理學)과 산수화(山水畵)의 발전에 관한 연구 - 송대를 중심으로 -)

  • There were various linking points that connect Li xue(Neo-Confucianism) to aesthetics in Song Dynasty as following. 1. The traditional moral as "pursuing pleasure of Kong-zi and Yan Hui" 2. Esteem of "life and vitality". Scholars of Li xue in Song regarded the pleasure of acting up to "benevolence" as a beauty, and this benevolence originated in the "heaven and earth; the universe". "Benevolence", that is to say, is name of the nature that continuous reproduction breed in an endless succession by "Yin-Yang the universe", thus the natural "life and vitality" of the "heaven and earth" as the matter of course is the perfect beauty. 3. An idea of "serene contemplation". Originally the "serene contemplation" belongs to discipline of "Li xue", however simultaneously this conception was entirely applicable to aesthetic point of view. 4. Cosmological consciousness. In the same manner, the "pleasure" which is moralistic and moreover aesthetic is indivisible from cosmic contemplation itself. Because of this point, the art and aesthetics of Song Dynasty self-consciously had the cosmological consciousness in its fullness. 5. Respect of beauty of nature. Scholars of "Li xue" considered as : no matter what "Li" or "Qi" that producing all things is "coming of itself", that is by no means artificially operated or prearranged in advance. Such standpoint was applied to creative art and made art of Song Dynasty esteem beauty of nature (coming of itself) exceedingly. 6. Laying stress on "disposition". Scholars of "Li xue" ordinarily valued much of "disposition of a sage", consequently this tendency influenced on aesthetics. "disposition" indicates the whole impression that one who has appearance and the inside(personality, temper, thought, etc.) gives to others. By putting that impression into practice of art and literature, it is to materialize the works of art as a unity of form and subject, also as an expression of human existence that breathed into one's sensibility on the whole. 7. Principles of "completing inquiry", "study the laws of nature by close access" of "Li xue". These principles made art and literature of Song Dynasty take a serious view of "Li" of all over the universe, so made them close investigate things, and after all have achieved very remarkable characteristic in art and literature, especially in paintings of Song Dynasty. Theory of painting in Song Dynasty had occupied considerably high position in Chinese aesthetic history. It was positively superior to former generations no matter what in quantity or in theoretical minuteness and its systematic level. Undoubtedly the Chinese theory of painting had been achieving development time after time since Song Dynasty. However if we could make a comparison it with every single period (ex. Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties), there is no prominent period than Song Dynasty in theory of paintings. Song period had number of essays of Landscape painting.
