Immigration and the FDI Pattern of Korean Restaurant Service Industry (해외교민 규모와 한국 외식산업의 해외진출 패턴)

  • This paper analyzes the determinants of foreign entry pattern of Korean restaurant industry. Based on the result of previous literature that cultural characteristics is important for the competitiveness of restaurant industry, this paper is purposed to analyze the effect of Korean emigrants on the foreign entry of Korean restaurant industry. Gravity model is used to develop empirical models. The results shows that the size of Korean emigrants has a positive effects on the foreign entry. Which supports the previous literature on the relationship between migrants and international trade that migrants plays as channel for information between countries.

  • Recently there are sharp increase in number of studies related with facilitation of Inward-FDI or Multinational Enterprises invested in Korea region. The most of studies are mainly purposing to survey - 1)how Korea Government makes counter plan and assistance policy to make foreign capital and Inward-FDI more attractively and aggressively, 2)what is the new framework or system for Inward-FDI policy, 3)what is economic effect of Inward-FDI, 4)what are determinants or conclusive factors of FDI in Korea. Under this situation, the goal of this report is to find out the new way for Multinational Enterprises to reinvest continuously thru getting their better investment performances on several factors including Marketing Competence, Management Ability, Localization Management Skill, Business Management Strategy, and R&D Competitiveness which would be much more important determinants influencing re-investment of Multinational Enterprises in Kora. This report based on the empirical result and comprehensive analysis will eventually help policy makers to implement the appropriate strategy and support Multinational Enterprises to proceed positive circle's re-investment activity in the end.

Development of International Market Selection Models for Solar Power System Industry of Korea (국내 태양광산업의 해외진출을 위한 시장 선택 요인에 대한 분석)

  • Due to environmental issues such as global warming, the importance of renewable energy is growing. Solar Power System is one of the most growing eco-friendly energy industries in the world, but Korea's solar energy industry faces fierce competition due to the trade regulations and changes in energy related laws in the major markets such as the U.S., EU and China. Therefore, Korea needs to diversify its export markets towards emerging markets. This paper analyzed 162 countries in the world and developed a model to measure how promising the countries are. GSMI(Grid connected Solar Market Index) and OSMI(Off-grid Solar Market Index) are invented based on the models. By using the developed model and the data of 162 countries over the 15-year period from 2000 to 2014, the foreign markets are ranked for searching the export market. According to the analysis, China, Japan, U.S, India and Taiwan ranked first to fifth in GSMI and OSMI ranking, which were followed by China, India, Bangladesh, Philippines and Afghanistan. The model developed through this research is expected to provide a more reasonable and scientific approach to the advancement of the Korean solar energy industry into overseas markets.

The Direction & Strategy of Human Resources Development in Global Business Practise in the 4th Industrial Revolution (4차 산업혁명시대 무역인력양성 방향과 전략에 관한 연구)

  • This study analyzes the trade issues and curriculum issues of universities in the 4th Industrial Revolution era with the aim of finding strategies to improve the curriculum of international commerce and to cultivate trade manpower by matching them with the trade job competencies required by trade enterprises. To this end, trade college students, GTEP partners, industry-academia partners, and expert groups of N university were asked to provide information on trade curriculum for the current curriculum. The resulting data were analyzed by questionnaire frequency analysis and FGI method to reveal that both students and graduates are interested in improving the trade curriculum of the university, and that companies are also demanding talents who are responsible for the comprehensive process of trade practice and can perform sincerely and comprehensively. Therefore, we have established a new curriculum that is suitable for the 4th industrial age, opened a certificate acquisition course suitable for the needs of the company, and developed the commercial practice, trade simulation, capstone design, and PBL teaching method. Ways are suggesting to reduce mismatch between universities and companies.

The Analysis of Trade Competitiveness for Korea-ASEAN Members in Northeast Asia's Trade Environment (동북아 무역환경에서 한국과 아세안 10개 회원국들과의 무역경쟁력 분석)

  • This study analyzes trade competitiveness by classifying the classification by item among Korea and the 10 ASEAN member countries into high level and medium-high level technology industry groups, medium level, medium-low level, and low-level technology industry groups. Before analyzing each of the 10 member states, I investigate the trade competitiveness between Korea and ASEAN, and analyze the trade competitiveness of Korea, especially among the 10 member countries, with Korea having a competitive industrial force. The study results revealed that trade with Vietnam was actively promoted, with Korea-Vietnam trade volume also growing far above that of other member states. And trade with Korea was brisk in the order of Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines. The analysis of the trade structure of the 10 ASEAN member states, confirmed that imports were also being made while exporting items in the high- and medium-level technology industry groups. The possibility of entering the Korean market was quite high, given that Korea imported high- and medium- and high-tech industrial forces while exporting low-tech industrial forces.

A Study on the Effect of Myanmar ODA's Aids on Exports through Panel Analysis (공적개발원조(ODA)가 수출에 미치는 영향 분석: 미얀마 사례를 중심으로)

  • This studies the relationship between ODA and export performance of donor countries in Myanmar. This study analyzes 19 donor countries from 2002 to 2014 by using gravity model. The results show that ODA improves the export performance of donor countries in Myanmar in the period. The larger the amount of ODA, the larger the exports in Myanmar. And the rate of increase of ODA is also important in determining the export performance. These imply that ODA increases donor's export directly as well as indirectly by improving the relationship between donors and receivers. These results are important for Korea that is increasing ODA into Myanmar. Korea should search for a mode of ODA supporting as well as the amount of ODA.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the roles and effects of FTAs (Free Trade Agreements) in agroindustrialization, and to navigate its implication for the government support for the utilization of FTAs in the agriculture sector. The paper, in particular, is based on a case of contract farming, which has often referred as the key factor of agroindustrialization. By doing this, this paper has the importance academically in enhancing the study of FTA utilization to the study of agroindustrialization, and practically in exploring the implication for the FTA implementation policy that provides fundamental solutions to the issues of agriculture sector. As the results of this study, it is highlighted that the role of government that intermediates, monitors, and controls the equal and the fair relationship between the agribusiness firms and farms is essential for the further progress of agroindustrialization under the keen competition created by FTAs.

  • This research employed a comparative legal analysis to explore the rules of CISG, Incoterms 2010, Chinese Contract Law, and Korean Civil Act with precedent researches and present customs in the international sale of goods. The results of this study show that there are some differences in the provisions of seller's delivery obligation to those regulations, such as the time and place of delivery goods, the conformity of goods on the contract, and delivery of documents. Therefore, the parties of contract, especially between Korean and Chinese traders, must be aware of the differences in the provisions of those selected regulations in order to reduce disputes between them, out of or in relation to or in connection with their sales contract.

A Legal Review on the Warranty Charges Clauses of the WTO Customs Valuation Agreement and the Korean Customs Act (관세평가협정과 관세법상 하자보증비용에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, Korean customs authorities have attempted to impose customs duties on the warranty charges paid by Korean subsidiaries ("the taxpayers") of multinational corporations to their overseas headquarters, or their affiliates, as indirect payment of the price actually paid or payable for imported goods and services, and the taxpayers' complaints have been steadily increasing. The key issue of Korean Supreme Court decision, 2018Du56619, revolves around opposing interpretations of the Korea Customs Act and the WTO's Customs Valuation Agreement in determining who is responsible for paying duties levied on warranty charges. The Supreme Court's ruling was consistent with its previous interpretations of the WTO agreement on customs valuations. The Supreme Court ruled in favor of the plaintiff, a Korean subsidiary, stating that the overseas corporate headquarters' payments of warranty charges to Korean dealers are made on behalf of the Korean subsidiary, which is ultimately responsible for covering warranty charges. Thus, the Korean subsidiary's settlement of the warranty charges to their Korean dealers through the overseas headquarters is effectively the same as a direct payment to the dealers. Therefore, the Korean subsidiary performed warranty services on its liability and account. As such, the court ruled that warranty charges should not include tariffs on the indirect payment for warranty services in such cases. This paper presents the comparative legal implications for the warranty charge clauses in the WTO agreement and the Korean Customs Act and analyzes the Supreme Court's decisions.

The Effect of Animosity Type on Consumer Cognition and Consumption Behavior Direction : Based on the Moderating Role of Fear of Missing Out (국가간 적대감 유형이 소비자 인지와 소비행동 방향에 미치는 영향 : 고립공포감의 조절효과를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study aims to investigate how consumer awareness and purchasing behavior are affected by the type of animosity against the nation. This study classified animosity into three categories: sociocultural, economic, and war-based. Additionally, the consumer's cognition toward animosity was split into two categories-empathic concernt and personal distress-and the direction of consumption behavior was split into two categories-individual brand avoidance behavior and collective bandwagon behavior. The concept of Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) was introduced for the direction of consumption behavior, further validating the moderating impact. Structural equation modeling method was used to measure the general consumption behvior of Korean consumers' animosity. The results were analyzed using a total of 279 samples. As a result, animosity motivated by war and by economics had a substantial impact on empathic concern, while animosity motivated by socioculture had a significant impact on personal distress. Personal distress had a good impact on an individual's brand antipathy behavior, which in turn led to brand dislike and avoidance. Empathic concern also had a positive impact on the phenomena of group sympathy, which leads to identification of conduct and social conformity. Also, it was proven that the group that had a high level of FoMO reacted strongly to the phenomenon of group collective behavior.
