This study was to investigate the consumption pattern and nutrition knowledge about vegetables of 184 housewives attending the school of adult and continuing education attached to DukSung Women's University. The results were summarized as follows; the average vegetable expenses were $10,000{\sim}20,000$ won per week. The frequency of purchasing vegetables was $2{\sim}3$ times a week. Respondents usually bought the vegetables at local markets and supermarkets. As for buying vegetables, all of respondents kept in mind all the time the organic vegetables were better. The price was the most important factor of their purchase in the low income households. In the family, the vegetable dishes were favored by housewives most and by sons least. Among the vegetable cooking methods, Kimchi was the most frequently used and salad was the least. Forty four percent of the respondents experienced purchasing ready made vegetable dishes in the market. The reason they bought ready made ones was the special taste of the dishes. The rest of respondents never bought cooked vegetable dishes because they thought the dishes unsanitary. Twenty seven percent of the respondents experienced purchasing. The reason for not purchasing Kimchi was the housewives' traditional prejudice of buying Kimchi in the market. Respondents have a considerable knowledge that 42 kinds of vegetables could be good for certain disease and 10 kinds of vegetables might be harmful for certain disease.
We investigated the effect of Chun ma (Gastrodiae rhizoma) concentrated extract on the quality of mixed beverages. Chun ma beverages prepared using different concentrated extracts were divided into four groups: GCE 5 ($5^{\circ}$ Brix concentrated extracts) GCE 10 ($10^{\circ}$ Brix concentrated extracts) GCE 15 ($15^{\circ}$ Brix concentrated extracts) and GCE 20 ($20^{\circ}$ Brix concentrated extracts). The pH values ranged from a low of 4.37 in GCE 5 to a high of 4.68 in GCE 20. Soluble solid levels in GCE 20 ($19.6^{\circ}$ Brix) were higher than in the other samples. The b (yellowness) scores and the total phenolic contents of all samples increased with increasing extract concentration. The highest total phenolic contents were seen in GCE 20 samples at 232.23 mg%. Samples did not differ markedly in antiradical activity (75.07-76.00% DPPH inhibition). Free sugar levels in GCE 20 samples and organic acid concentrations of GCE 15 samples were higher than those of other preparations. Free amino acid and mineral contents of all samples increased with increasing extract concentration. The levels of free amino acids were in the order Glu > Gly > Ser > Arg > Hylys, and the Glu content was 249.15 ug/100 g for GCE-20 samples and 61 ug/100 g in GCE-5 products. The mineral contents of all samples were in the order K > Na > Mg > Ca. Higher scores for color, flavor, and overall acceptability were found in GCE 5 products compared with other extracts. These results indicate that Chun ma beverage can be prepared in various ways, as commercially desired, with reference to the above characteristics of Chun ma materials.

Total phenolic and flavonoids contents of water extract from C. lanceolata skin were estimated as 24.65 and $6.19\;{\mu}g/g$. The C. lanceolata skin extract showed the highest reducing power (3.5) at the concentration of 25 mg/mL. Based on the above results, we deemed that the C. lanceolata skin might have potential antioxidant activities. The general nutrients and antioxidant bioactive materials in C. lanceolata skin were also potential materials for good health food.
Fungi which were capable of producing gluconic acid were isolated from soil and tree leave samples, which had been collected in Seoul ana its vicinity. Among the 19 strains isolated, a strain named arbitrarily KUF-O4 was selected as a test strain chiefty because of its efficiency in gluconic acid production. The strain was identified as an Aspergillus sp. through its morphological properties. Optimum conditions for the gluconic acid production of KUF-O4 were investigated. The results obtained are as follows. 1. An incubation period of at least 30 hours was required for a good yield of gluconic acid. 2. A medium containing 10% glucose needed at least 3 % CaCo$_3$to maintain the optimum pH for the production of gluconic acid during fermentation. 3. As a carbon source, glucose was the most effective one among the carbon sources tested. 4. As a nitrogen source, an ammonium salt was more effective than any other form of nitrogen compounds. 5. As mineral source, a small amount of both KH$_2$PO$_4$and MgSO$_4$was found to be necessary to increase the efficiency of the gluconic acid production.

A review of research trends on wood surface protection for exterior use obtained the following conclusions: It has been reported that inorganic compounds such as chrome and copper used as wood preservatives can protect wood from weathering. It has been shown that precoating with hydrophobic substances such as wax and oil, UV absorbers, and HALS (Hindered Amine Light Stabilizers) enhances weathering resistance on the surface of ACQ-treated wood. Opaque coatings of paint/stains and semitransparent stains on the surface of preservative treated wood can increase the synergistic effects on prevention of weathering deterioration. Also the need for repainting periodically for the protection of the preservative treated wood surface has also been suggested. ZnO or $TiO_2$ of fine particles, metal ions such as Co, Cr, Fe, Mn, Ni and Ti, and UV absorbers such as tris-resorcinol triazine derivatives, triazine and benzotriazole were introduced as additives for preventing UV in the transparent coating on wood. Several reports showed that chemical modification such as methylation, acetylation, or alkylations have made some increases the effects of preventing weathering with the increasing weight gain of chemical formulas. In heat-treated wood, there were various contradictory reports on the resistance of weathering, and there were some other reports emphasizing the necessity of painting with UV resistance, which leads to the necessity of more advanced studies.
The purpose of this study is to determine the possibility of using Codonopsis lanceolata leaves as natural health food source. To accomplish this purpose, the contents of general and antioxidative nutrients of Codonopsis lanceolata leaves were measured. The contents of carbohydrate, crude protein, crude lipid and ash were 65.09%, 18.02%, 1.34% and 9.72%. And the calories of Codonopsis lanceolata leaves were 288.36 Kcal. The protein contained total 16 different kinds of amino acids. The contents of essential and non-essential amino acids were 5,906.41 mg and 7,551.56 mg, respectively. K was the most mineral followed by Ca, P, and Mg, which means Codonopsis lanceolata leaves are alkali material. Total phenolic contents of Codonopsis lanceolata leaves were 1.87 mg/g, and total flavonoids contents were estimated as 1.87 mg/g. Based on the above results, we deemed that the Codonopsis lanceolata leaves might have potential antioxdant activities. The general nutrients and other antioxidatant bioactive materials in Codonopsis lanceolata leaves were also potential materials for good health food. It is expected that a follow up study of Codonopsis lanceolata leavesthrough developing processed food and evaluation of their functional properties would provide useful information as a source of medicinal foods.
The objectives of this study were to find out proper potting medium and nutrient levels in the soil to promote the root nodule formation in black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia L.) seedlings. Commercial potting medium, compost, organic fertilizer, molded forest fertilizer, and compound fertilizer were used at different mixing rates to bring in various levels of mineral nutrients in the soil. Seedlings were grown in pots in a greenhouse for three months. Commercial potting medium containing peatmoss, vermiculite, and geolite was not suited for early nodule formation due to lack of nutrients, even though it produced good total dry weight. Compost was the best medium to promote both high total dry weight production and nodule formation with providing the proper levels of nitrogen and phosphorus in the soil. Molded forest fertilizer was acceptable for nodule formation. Compound fertilizer and organic fertilizer was not suited for nodule formation. The potting medium should contain optimum levels of nitrogen (0.05-0.2%) and phosphorus (100-600ppm) to promote early nodule formation in black locust seedlings.
When NCAs(non-conductive adhesives) are used for adhesion of micro-electronic devices, they often show problems such as delamination and cracking, due to the differences of CTE(coefficients of thermal expansion) between NCAs and substrates. Additions of inorganic particles or flexibilizers have been performed to solve those problems. The effects of silica addition on thermal/mechanical properties of amino modified siloxane(AMS)/silica/epoxy-nanocomposites were examined. The silica was treated by 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane(GPTMS) for better compatibility between silica and epoxy matrix. AMS/silica/epoxy-nanocomposites filled with various amounts of AMS(1 and 3 phr) and various amounts of silica(3, 5 and 7 phr) were prepared. And Tg, moduli and CTE of nanocomposites were analyzed. Tg of AMS/Aerosil(non-modified silica)/epoxy-nanocomposites decreased from 125 to $118^{\circ}C$ with increasing Aerosil contents and moduli increased from 2,225 to 2,523 MPa with increasing Aerosil contents. Tg of AMS/M-silica (modified silica)/epoxy-nanocomposites decreased from 124 to $120^{\circ}C$ with increasing M-silica contents and moduli increased from 1,981 to 2,743 MPa with increasing M-silica contents. CTE of AMS/Aerosil/epoxy-nanocomposites and AMS/M-silica/epoxy-nanocomposites showed decreasing tendency regardless of the surface treatments.
