Cytotoxic substances in dental calculus and root cementum of periodontally diseased teeth inhibit new attachment and regeneration. The purpose of scaling and root planing is to remove pathologic structures harboring these cytotoxic substances in order to create a biologically acceptable root surface. However, these procedures inevitably leave a non-biocompatible smear layer. Conventionally, the smear layer has been removed with low pH etching agents such as citric acid, phosphoric acid and tetracycline hydrochloride(TC). Lately, a supersaturated neutral pH etching solution of ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid(EDTA) has been found to be as effective as low pH etchants with respect to smear removal and to be superior in exposing root surfaceassociated collagen. The aim of the present study was to determine the effect of root surface treatment using EDTA on the initial attachment of human gingival fibroblasts. 27 human teeth, extracted due to severe periodontitis, were cut into dentin slices after root planing. The specimens were divided into TC group(treated with $50㎎/m{\ell}$ tetracycline-HCl, pH 1.52), EDTA group(treated with 17% EDTA, pH 7.4), and non-treated control group. After sterilization, 5th subcultured human gingival fibroblasts were seeded in each culture well containing a prepared root slice and incubated for 15 min., 60 min., and 4 hours in 5% $CO_2$ incubator at $37^{\circ}C$. At each incubation time, the number of attached fibroblasts were counted on the microphotographs taken at a magnification of x100. The difference of the number of attached cells between groups was statistically analyzed by the ANOVA followed by Duncan test in SPSS/PC+programs. The results were as follows : 1. After incubation for 15 min, the attached cells were significantly more in EDTA group and TC group than non-treated control group(p<0.05), but there was no significance in the difference between EDTA group and TC group(p>0.1). 2. After incubation for 60 min and 4 hours, there was no significant difference in the number of attached cells between all groups(p>0.1). 3. In both EDTA group and TC group, there was no significant difference in the number of attached cells between different incubation(p>0.1). But in control group, the number of attached cells was significantly increased after incubation for 60 min, compared with incubation for 15 min(p<0.05). The above results suggest that root surface treatment using EDTA could enhance the initial attachment of gingival fibroblasts to root surface as effective as tetracycline-HCl.

Statement of problem: There have been a few studies about unsplinted implant retainted maxillary overdenture. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of different position of implant for 2 implants-retained maxillary overdenture. Materials and methods: Three-dimensional finite element models were used to reproduce an edentulous human maxilla with an implant-retained overdenture. Two implants in the canine tooth positions on both side and in the second premolar tooth positions on both side models were examined. Axial loads of 100 N were applied to the occlusal surface at the right first molar tooth positions. Maximum stress at the implant-bone interface and stress at the cortical bone surface just under the loading point were observed. Results and conclusion: Within the limits of this study, maximum stresses were concentrated around implant of canine position at loading side. The second premolar area was thought to be more favorable to distribution of stress on mucosa, alveolar bone and implants than canine area for maxillary overdenture.

The objectives of this study were to evaluate the fluoride release and the change of surface roughness of fluoride releasing restorative materials after toothbrush-dentifrice abrasion. Seven commercially available fluoride releasing restorative materials (Fuji II LC Improved: FL, Compoglass F: CG, Dyract AP: DR, F2000: FT, Ariston: AT, Tetric: TR, and Gradia: GD) were selected as experimental materials. The results obtained were summarized as follows: 1. The AT, FL, and CF groups produce an initially large burst of fluoride release and comparatively low but continuous release of fluoride. But other groups produce no initial burst of fluoride and levels of release remain relatively constant. 2. The rate of fluoride release remains steady state after 40 days. The results of Tukey's test (P<.05), the fluoride release showed the order of decreasing rank as follows: AT > FL > compomers > TC and GD. 3. The surface roughness indicated that the highest value was observed in the FT group and the lowest value was observed in the CF group. The surface roughness of Tukey's test showed the significant differences between groups of FT, AT and FL and groups of CF, DR, GD and TC (P<0.05).

Viscous flow around actual ship is calculated by an use of RANS equations. The propriety of this computing method, usefulness to hull form design and the scale effect which is the effect of viscous flow depending on the scale of ship model are investigated. Reynolds stress is modelled by using k-${\varepsilon}$ turbulence model and the law of wall is applied near the body. Body fitted coordinates are introduced for the treatment of the arbitrary 3-dimensional shape of the ship hull form. The transformed equations in the computational domain are numerically solved by an employment of FVM. In the calculation of pressure, SIMPLE method is adopted and the solution of the discretized equation is obtained by the line-by-line method with the use of TDMA The calculations of two ships, 4410 TEU container carrier and 50,000 DWT class bulk carrier, are performed at model and actual ship scale. The results are compared and discussed with the model test results which are viscous resistance, nominal wake distribution at propeller plane and limiting streamline on the hull surface. They describe the effect of stem form and the scale effect very well. In particular, the calculated nominal wake distribution and limiting streamline are agreed qualitatively with the experiments and the viscous resistance values are estimated within ${\pm}5%$ difference from the resistance tests.
Two needle cokes (NC-A and NC-B) that differ in both the texture and impurity content to each other were graphitized at $2000-3000{\circ}C$, and the average particle size, size distribution and surface area were compared after milling. Their anodic properties in Li secondary batteries were also analyzed. Two materials showed a higher degree of graphitization with an increase in the preparation temperature, however, the NC-B series was less graphitized than NC-A due to the presence of impurities and less ordered mosaic texture. The mein particle size of the milled powder was proportional to the degree of graphitization, but the surface area showed the opposite trend. The highly graphitized materials yielded powders of lower uniformity in the size distribution. The discharge capacity of the resulting carbons steadily decreased in the temperature range of 1000 to $2000^{\circ}C$ due to the depletion of carbonaceous interlayers that contain crystal defects. A later increase in the discharge capacity was observed at $>2000^{\circ}C$, which arises from the formation of graphitic interlayers. The milling process gave rise to a sloping discharge curve at >1.0 V, but this was converted to a plateau at <0.25V after a repeated cycling or additional heat-treatment at $1000^{\circ}C$. The discharge at >1.0V likely comes from the disordered surface structure formed during the milling process. The evolution of a plateau at <0.25 V suggests that this disordered structure transforms to a more ordered graphitic one upon a cell cycling or heat-treatment.
The purpose of this experiment was to determine the effects of various surface treatments on veneering resin to metal bond for Ni-Cr alloy. The metal surfaces were treated as follows, Group 1 : Ground with carborudum point and followed by silicoating Group 2 : Sandblasted with $50{\mu}m$ aluminum oxide and followed by silicoating Group 3. Sandblasted with $250{\mu}m$ aluminum oxide and followed by silicoating Group 4 : Beaded with $200{\mu}m$ retention structures and followed by silicoating Group 5 : Silicoated in as cast condition Group 6. Beaded with $200{\mu}m$ retention structures only All specimens were veneered with resin. Each group was consisted of 20 specimens. 10 specimens were storaged in $37^{\circ}C$ water for 3 days and the rest 10 specimens were thermocycled 1000 times at temperature of $5^{\circ}C\;to\;55^{\circ}C$. The effects of various surface treatments on the bond strength between resin and metal interface were studied by means of four-point flexure test. The specimens which bad been ground with carborundum point. sandblasted with $50{\mu}m$ and $250{\mu}m$ aluminum oxide. beaded with $200{\mu}m$ retention structures and not been treated were observed with SEM. The following results were obtained 1. The bond strength of groups 2, 3, 4 and 6 were higher than the that of groups 1 and 5 (p<0.05) in the case of being storaged in $37^{\circ}C$ water for 3 day and there was no statistically significant difference in bond strength among groups 2, 3, 4 and 6. and between groups 1 and 5 (p>0.05). 2. The bond strength of the case of being thermocycled decreased in the following orders : groups 2, group 4, group 3, group 6, group 1, group 5 and there was no statistically significant difference in bond strength among groups 2, 3 and 4, between groups 1 and 5 (p>0.05). 3. A statistical difference in bond strength of each group between storaged and being thermocycled was demonstrated for group 5 (p<0.05). 4. The treated surfaces of groups 2, 3 and 4 had more fine undercut than that of groups 1 and 5 with SEM.

This study was performed to determine the antimicrobial activity of waste food fractions, the Solanum tuberosum Peel (SP) and Allium cepa L. Peel (AP) on several microorganisms. The methanol extracts (SPM, APM) of SP and AP were fractionated to five different types, which were hexane, ethylether, ethylacetate, butanol and water Among the various fractions, ethylether and butanol fractions of AP (APMEE, APMB) showed stronger antimicrobial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus than the other fractions. The ethylether fraction of SP (SPMEE) also showed the higher antimicrobial activity against Escherchia coli than the other 4 fractions . These results suggest that the waste food fractions, SP and AP may be developed into bioactive antimicrobial health products.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of dual bonding technique by comparing microshear bond strength between two different luting methods of resin cement to tooth dentin. Three dentin bonding systems(All-Bond 2, One-Step, Clearfil SE Bond), two temporary cements (Propac, Freegenol) were used in this study. In groups used conventional luting procedure, dentin surfaces were left untreated. In groups used dual bonding technique, three dentin bonding systems were applied to each dentin surface. All specimens were covered with each temporary cement. The temporary cements were removed and each group was treated using one of three different dentin bonding system. A resin cement was applied to the glass cylinder surface and the cylinder was bonded to the dentin surface. Then, micro-shear bond strength test was performed. For the evaluation of the morphology at the resin/dentin interface, SEM examination was also performed. 1. Conventional luting procedure showed higher micro-shear bond strengths than dual boning technique. However, there were no significant differences. 2. Freegenol showed higher micro-shear bond strengths than Propac, but there were no significant differences. 3. In groups used dual bonding technique, SE Bond showed significantly higher micro-shear bond strengths in One-Step and All-Bond 2 (p<0.05), but there was no significant difference between One-Step and All-Bond 2. 4. In SEM observation, with the use of All-Bond 2 and One-Step, very long and numerous resin tags were observed. This study suggests that there were no findings that the dual bonding technique would be better than the conventional luting procedure.
Combustible waste into energy policy is an effective method to respond to climate change and depletion of fossil fuels. Combustible waste into energy is the process of generating energy in the form of electricity and/or heat from the combustible waste such as vinyl, paper and plastic. This study tries to estimate the external benefit of enhancing the ratio of combustible waste into energy to primary energy from 1.89% to 5% using contingent valuation(CV) method. To this end, we report the results from a CV survey to elicit the willingness to pay (WTP) for combustible waste into energy. A CV survey of 500 households was conducted in the Seoul by using person-to-person interviews. Thus, the procedures of applying and the findings from the one-and-one-half bounded dichotomous choice spike model used to deal with the zero WTP responses are provided in the paper. The results show that the average WTP is estimated to be 2,724 won per household per month and statistically significant at the 5% level. Expanding the value to the Seoul gives us an aggregate value of 13.7 billion won per year.
The typical blasting method adopted in Pasir Coal Mine is a surface blasting technique with a single free face. It means that there is only one free face, which is usually the ground surface. This kind of blasting method is easy to use but inevitably causes enormous ground vibrations, which, in turn, can affect the stability of the slopes comprising the various boundaries of the open pit mine. In addition, the method also has the problem of lowering the overall blast efficiency compared to other methods such as bench blasting methods or ones with more than two free faces. In this respect, a project was launched to develop a new blasting method that is suitable for both controling the ground vibration and enhancing the blast efficiency. As a part of the project, we investigated the current blasting method of the mine, and have conducted field measurements of the ground vibrations from 12 biasts. This Paper presents the details of the typical blasting pattern and the Propagation characteristics of the ground vibration from the surface blasting in the mine. Especially, various predictive equations for peak Particle velocities that can be used to estimate the ground vibration level in the mine area were derived from the regression analyses using the measured ground vibration data.
