An Investigation on Data Needs and Data Reuse Behavior in the Field of Social Sciences (사회과학 분야 연구자의 데이터요구와 데이터 재이용 행위에 관한 연구)

  • In today's increasingly data-intensive academic environment, data is becoming the foundation of academic communication as a research outcome rather than a research by-product. However, there is a limit to guaranteeing actual data reuse only by expanding the data supply or securing accessibility. In order to overcome this, it is necessary to understand the data reuse behavior and data needs in-depth. Therefore, this study attempted to identify the major data reuse behavior and data needs among researchers. To this end, the authors of KCI papers among the data reuse documents of the Korea Social Science Data Archive (KOSSDA) for the past 3 years were targeted. An in-depth interview was conducted with 12 researchers who accepted the interview. As a result, factors considered when reusing data were personal, economic, technical, and social aspects, and it was found that the data itself was used or contextual information of the data was used depending on the purpose of data reuse. The path to acquiring data is a web-based source of information, and a path through informal communication can also be found. In terms of the data needs, it was found that they prefer English, the United States, and institutional producers. Also they have a clear preference for quantitative data from an interviewer-filled interpersonal interview survey method, rich metadata along with raw data, and data that contains identification information. However, due to the lack of confidence in the value, it is negative for the use of data with controlled access and use, and it is difficult to confirm a clear preference because there is no similar data available for selection in terms of size and freshness.

Implementing the Faceted Navigation Interface for Searching Performing Arts Contents (공연예술 콘텐츠 검색을 위한 패싯 내비게이션 인터페이스 구현)

  • The effective searching for performing arts contents can be achieved by providing various access points and searching methods based on specialized metadata. The purpose of this study is to develop a faceted navigation interface which user could effectively and efficiently retrieve performing arts contents even if the users do not know accurate descriptive information about them. Therefore, the study, first, investigated search access points and navigation items providing by other the performing arts retrieval systems and to analyze information seeking behaviors of university students who major in music, dance and theater. And then, the study proposed the 36 facets with the 9 main facet categories suitable for performing arts and also proposed 27 descriptive elements suitable for performing arts contents. Finally, the study developed the performing arts contents retrieval system based faceted navigation interface with 3,360 experimental data and conducted an in-depth interview in terms of usability, serendipity, and efficiency. The applying the faceted navigations for searching performing arts contents will help users access and utilize them in the retrieval system and moreover satisfy user demands.

An Analysis of the Applicable Fields of UDC (UDC의 적용분야에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate historical backgrounds, maintenance, revision and application areas of UDC(Universal Decimal Classification) in order to understand current issues of it systematically. Since 1905, n has been extensively developed and is now administered by UDC Consortium(UDCC). UDCC updates MRF(Master Reference File), an electronic form of the UDC schedules, once a year. UDC updates and publishes standard edition extended edition, and abridged edition according to the degrees of notion abridgement, and is available on the web. UDC can be now applicable to collection arrangement, SDI(Selective Dissemination of Information) service, searching subject bibliographies, switching language or subject gateway and metadata on the Internet, and automatic classification.

  • XML as a standard for representing data and document structure is widely used in every area, and we have to write XML compilers which process the XML documents according to a user's intention. Because it takes time and costs to write XML compilers by hand, we need some generators that automatically generate XML compilers. In this paper, we introduce an XML compiler generator named XCC. It reads DTD and semantic rules, and it generates XML compiler and Java classes which correspond to the elements defined in the DTD.

  • In spite of the development of computers, the present state that a lot of electronic documents are overflowing makes it more difficult for us to get appropriate information. Therefore, it's more important to focus on getting meaningful information than processing the data quickly In this context, Semantic Web enables an intelligent processing by adding semantic metadata on yow web documents. Also, as the Semantic Web grows, the knowledge resources as well as web resources are getting more and more importance. In this paper, we propose an OWL storage system aiming at an intelligent Processing by adding semantic metadata on your web documents, plus a system aiming at an OWL-QL Query Processing.

  • 지식 관리 시스템, 정보 검색 시스템, 그리고 전자 도서관 시스템 등의 문서를 다루는 시스템에서는 문서의 구조화 및 문서의 저장이 필요하다. 문서에 담겨있는 정보를 추출하기 위해 가장 우선시되어야 하는 것은 키워드의 선별이다. 기존 연구에서 가장 널리 사용된 알고리즘은 단어의 사용 빈도를 체크하는 TF(Term Frequency)와 IDF(Inverted Document Frequency)를 활용하는 TF-IDF 방법이다. 그러나 TF-IDF 방법은 문서의 의미를 반영하지 못하는 한계가 존재한다. 이를 보완하기 위하여 본 연구에서는 세 가지 방법을 활용한다. 첫 번째는 문헌 속에서의 단어의 위치 및 서론, 결론 등의 특정 부분에 사용된 단어의 활용도를 체크하는 문헌구조적 기법이고, 두 번째는 강조 표현, 비교 표현 등의 특정 사용 문구를 통제 어휘로 지정하여 활용하는 방법이다. 마지막으로 어휘의 사전적 의미를 분석하여 이를 메타데이터로 활용하는 방법인 언어학적 기법이 해당된다. 이를 통하여 키워드 추출 과정에서 문서의 의미 분석도 수행하여 키워드 추출의 효율을 높일 수 있다.

XML-based Retrieval System for SCORM-based Virtual Learning Contents (SCORM 기반의 XML 학습 컨텐츠 검색 시스템)

  • XML(eXtensible Markup Language), next generation internet standard language has the advantage of easy re-use and re-structure in other computing environment because it has the separate data, presentation and structure. In this paper, we implement the efficient retrieval system for the general user by limiting the XML documents on the multimedia learning contents for the virtual education system. The system design is based on SCO Metadata unit defined in SCORM as the proposed virtual education standard. Each XML documents has three indexes - keyword, element and attribute. Also, it makes possible to retrieve data without previous knowledge of the DTD by making the element retrieval screen structure for the user interface. And it gives the user various result screen formats such as XML and HTML by restructuring the retrieval result through XML-QL and XSL, respectively.

  • Memory access errors are frequently occurred in C programs. A number of tools and research works have been trying to detect the errors automatically. However, they have one or more of the following problems: inability to detect all memory errors, changing the memory allocation mechanism, incompatibility with libraries, and excessive performance overhead. In this paper, we suggest a new method to solve these problems, and then present a result of comparison to the previous research works through the experiments. Our approach consists of two phases. First is to transform source code at compile time through inserting instrumentation into the source code. And second is to detect memory errors at run time with a bitmap that maintains information about memory allocation. Our approach has improved the error detection abilities against the binary code analysis based ones by using the source code analysis technique, and enhanced performance in terms of both space and time, too. In addition, our approach has no problem with respect to compatibility with shared libraries as well as does not need to modify memory allocation mechanism.

  • This paper proposes a design and realization for the semantic search system. The proposed model includes three Architecture Layers of a Semantic Search System ; (they are conceptually named as) the Knowledge Acquisition, the Knowledge Representation and the Knowledge Utilization. Each of these three Layers are designed to interactively work together, so as to maximize the users' information needs. The Knowledge Acquisition Layer includes index and storage of Semantic Metadata from various source of web contents(eg : text, image, multimedia and so on). The Knowledge Representation Layer includes the ontology schema and instance, through the process of semantic search by ontology based query expansion. Finally, the Knowledge Utilization Layer includes the users to search query intuitively, and get its results without the users'knowledge of semantic web language or ontology. So far as the design and the realization of the semantic search site is concerned, the proposedsemantic search system will offer useful implications to the researchers and practitioners so as to improve the research level to the commercial use.

  • In this paper, we researched the excellency of 3D graphic nursery contents which is developed by mobile AR technology. AR technology has currently people's attention because of the potential to be core contents of future ICT industry. We applied AR nursery contents for kid's subtitle language selection in Korean, Chinese and English education. The original fairy tale consisted of 6~8 scenes for the 3D contents production, and was adapted and translated. Dubbing was dubbed by the native speaker using the standard pronunciation, and the effect sound was edited separately to fit the scene. After composing a scenario, constructing a 3D model, constructing a interaction, constructing a sound effect, and creating content metadata, the Unity 3D game engine is executed to create a project and describe it as a script. It provides a fun and informative tradition of fairy tales with abundant content that incorporates ICT technology, accepting advanced technology-based education, and having opportunities to perceive software in daily life.
