A Study of Mixed Convection on a Flat Plate with an Unheated Starting Length (비가열부가 있는 평판에서의 혼합대류에 관한 연구)

  • The buoyancy effects on mixed convection heat transfer over a flat plate surface with unheated starting length is reported. The governing equations are solved by a finite difference method using Patankar scheme and the solution was numerically obtained for various mixed convection parametr $Gr_{x}/Re_{x}^3$, and Prandtl number of 0.7 Local heat flux was measured by using Schilieren Interferometer. The local heat transfer results show that the presence of the unheated starting length can significantly accentuate the effects of buoyancy. The degree of accentuation of the buoyancy effects is strongly influenced by the magnitude of $Gr_{x}/Re_{x}^3$. When the parameter is larger than the order of $10^{-3}$, the contribution of natural convection to the heat transfer coefficients increased significantly due to the unheated starting length. In contrast, when $Gr_{x}/Re_{x}^3$ is smaller then about $10^{-5}$ , the buoyancy contribution is essentially unaffected by the unheated starting length. The shape of the velocity profile is also found to be highly responsive to the interaction between the buoyancy and the starting length.

Performance Review of a Cycloid Speed Reducer for Ship Transport Vehicles using FEM (유한요소해석을 이용한 선박수송차량용 사이클로이드 감속기의 성능 검토)

  • A cycloid speed reducer is one of the rotational speed regulation devices of the machinery. A cycloid speed reducer has an advantage of transmitting high torque, but is known to be unsuitable for high speed rotation. However, it is almost impossible in an analytical method to find a use limit speed when installing such a speed reducer in a 200ton loading transporter. In this research the cycloid reducer was simulated to get its performance depending on friction energy loss in time domain by using by LS-DYNA. The maximum torque of the cycloid speed reducer is 3.5ton-m, so the comparison of analysis results between a case of 60rpm rotation and a case of 162rpm rotation with such a torque showed the following results. In the case of 60rpm rotation, the maximum stress appearing in the RV gear and the pin gear was 463MPa and 507MPa. Lost power due to friction was 50kW; In the case of 162rpm rotation, the maximum stress appearing in the RV gear and the pin gear was 550MPa and 538MPa. Lost power due to friction was 175kW, which was shown to be almost impossible to use.

  • This paper propose analysis and examination of the melting characteristic of fuse elements by repeating overcurrent as a depletion factor of high pressure current limiting fuse through test following existence and nonexistence of extinction material and various configuration of elements. To examine deterioration progress rate by repeating overcurrent we analyzed heat for various element notching configuration, designed plate type, ring type element and estimated the relationship with life span by analyzing breaking characteristic through repeating overcurrent test with adjusting load factor at Silicon Dioxide(SiO2) filled state or in air. A Crack by repeat stress, decrease of section and transformation by friction with extinction material by repeating overcurrent causes a problem which shortens life span based on fuse repeating frequency. Since the contents of this paper might be useful to research the correlation between friction of materials and repeating life span based on load factor of repeating current, the quality of product would be improved through solution of the problem.

  • The car-following model is one of core models in Advanced Vehicle & Highway Systems (AVHS). The car-following model has been developed in aspects such as human factor and reduction error rates. However, the consideration of safety depending on weather condition has not been completed yet. In this paper, therefore, changes of driving condition for car-following due to different road condition were dealt with, and optimal safety distance corresponding to road condition such as dry, wet and snowy were computed. The GMIT(GM Model with Instantaneous T) model was picked over for simulation of adaptive cruise control applied the suggested optimal safety distance. As the results, the 1.7 times longer safety distance was required for wet road condition than dry road condition, and the 5.6 times longer safety distance was required for snowy road condition.

A Study on the Thermal Behaviors of Disk Brake and Pad by Friction Heat (디스크 브레이크와 패드의 마찰열에 의한 열적거동에 관한 연구)

  • This paper analyzes the thermal behaviors of genuine discs used in automobiles and discs coming out of tuning products through FEM analysis. Modeling with genuine disk modeling and tuning disks Model-1, Model-2, Model-3 and analyzing the disk rotation speed was set to 1000rpm. When the brake is operated, the thermal behavior of the disk surface, such as the operating temperature caused by the disk and pad contact, the friction surface temperature after the disk stop, and the thermal deformation, were analyzed. When the brake was activated (0-4.5 seconds), the tuning disk showed 34℃ higher than the original disk, and after the disk stopped (40.5 seconds), the tuning disk was analyzed 18℃ lowe, deformation due to the disk heat was deformed by 0.3mm for the tuning disk. Although there is an effect to reduce the fading phenomenon due to the thermal behavior of the pure disk and the tuning disk, it can be observed that there is no significant change in the thermal behavior due to the hole processing and the disk surface processing of the tuning disk.

Haptic Rendering Technology for Touchable Video (만질 수 있는 비디오를 위한 햅틱 렌더링 기술)

  • We propose a haptic rendering technology for touchable video. Our touchable video technique allows users for feeling the sense of touch while probing directly on 2D objects in video scenes or manipulating 3D objects brought out from video scenes using haptic devices. In our technique, a server sends video and haptic data as well as the information of 3D model objects. The clients receive video and haptic data from the server and render 3D models. A video scene is divided into small grids, and each cell has its tactile information which corresponds to a specific combination of four attributes: stiffness, damping, static friction, and dynamic friction. Users can feel the sense of touch when they touch directly cells of a scene using a haptic device. Users can also examine objects by touching or manipulating them after bringing out the corresponding 3D objects from the screen. Our touchable video technique proposed in this paper can lead us to feel maximum satisfaction the haptic-audio-vidual effects directly on the video scenes of movies or home-shopping video contents.

Wear Properties of Nuclear Graphite IG-110 at Elevated Temperature (원자력용 흑연 IG-110 에 대한 고온 마모 특성 평가)

  • The high temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTR-10) is designed to produce electricity and hydrogen. Graphite is used as reflector, support structures, and a moderator in reactor core; it has good resistance to neutron and is a suitable material at high temperatures. Friction is generated in the graphite structures for the core reflector, support structures, and moderator because of vibration from the HTR-10 fuel cycle flow. In this study, the wear characteristics of the isotropic graphite IG-110 used in HTR-10 were evaluated. The reciprocating wear test was carried out for graphite against graphite. The effects of changes in the contact load and sliding speeds at room temperature and $400^{\circ}C$ on the coefficient of friction and specific wear rate were evaluated. The wear behavior of graphite IG-110 was evaluated based on the wear surfaces.

Hetero-core Optical Fiber Exposure Sensor Module and Instrumentation Delay (헤테로코어 광파이버 노출형 센서모듈과 계측 지연현상)

  • The objective of this study is to develop a new type of buried sensor module that can directly assess pre-stressed concrete by measuring strain using a hetero-core optical fiber sensor. In this regard, experiments were conducted to evaluate the performance of the sensor using an exposure sensor module. Based on the experimental results, when the values of the displacement control velocity were 0.12 mm/min and 1.80 mm/min, the corresponding delays in the measurement were 52.1 s and 2.6 s respectively, which indicated that the maximum delay between the two measurements was a factor of 19. Due to the measurement delay phenomena, the sensor module used in the experiments cannot be employed to check the real-time state of the structure. Thus, additional experiments were needed to develop a new sensor module that can measure the real-time state of the structure. To investigate the cause of the measurement delay phenomena, three experiments were conducted. It was confirmed that measurement delay is mainly attributed to frictional resistance. The measurement delay phenomena were not observed in the experiments using the friction-removed device.

The Development of Game Simulator for Snowboard (스노우보드 게임 시뮬레이터 개발)

  • In this paper, a snowboard simulator that measures the user's motion and makes the user feel physical changes and enjoy actual snowboarding was developed. The speed and direction of the snowboard are determined by the user's center of gravity. The developed simulator is equipped with four springs on the snowboard plate, so that the slope can change according to the change in the user's weight center and be felt directly. The slope due to the change in the center of gravity of the user is measured using a three-axis acceleration sensor. The friction of the slope generated by the rotation of the snowboard is made possible by the user using the BLDC motor, and the rotation of the snowboard is measured using the hole sensor. For rapid data processing of the simulator, two MCUs are used to transfer the measured data to the PC using the acceleration sensor and motor separately. The developed simulator can experience slopes and friction of the slope directly, and wear measured data and HMD to enjoy more realistic snowboarding.

Deduction of Correlations between Shear Wave Velocity and Geotechnical In-situ Penetration Test Data (전단파속도와 지반공학적 현장 관입시험 자료의 상관관계 도출)

  • Shear wave velocity($V_S$), which can be obtained using various seismic tests, has been emphasized as representative geotechnical dynamic characteristic mainly for seismic design and seismic performance evaluation in the engineering field. For the application of conventional geotechnical site investigation techniques to geotechnical earthquake engineering, standard penetration tests(SPT) and piezocone penetration tests(CPTu) together with a variety of borehole seismic tests were performed at many sites in Korea. Through statistical modeling of the in-situ testing data, in this study, the correlations between $V_S$ and geotechnical in-situ penetrating data such as blow counts(N value) from SPT and piezocone penetrating data such as tip resistance ($q_t$), sleevefriction($f_s$), and pore pressure ratio($B_q$) were deduced and were suggested as an empirical method to determine $V_S$. Despite the incompatible strain levels of the conventional geotechnical penetration tests and the borehole seismic tests, it is shown that the suggested correlations in this study are applicable to the preliminary estimation of $V_S$ for Korean soil layers.
