  • Using 2006 metropolitan household travel survey data, this study analyzes trip behaviors based on a concept of trip chains using both trip purpose and number of trip linkages. For the analysis, trip chains are classified into two groups depending on including commute trips. Each group is further classified into a single linkage (i.e., Origin-Destination trips without any intermediate stop-by) and multiple linkages (Origin-Destination trip with at least one intermediate stop-by). The analysis is conducted using the two-step Nested Logit Model. Computational results identifying the characteristics of single and multiple linkages show that the young, male and office employee drivers tend to have more multiple linkages than single linkages in their trips. In contrast, it is shown that a driver whose monthly income is less than 3,000,000 Korean Won with a longer commute time more likely to make a trip chain with single linkages (p<0.0001).

  • The purpose of this study is to estimate economic value of forest landscape function using conditional logit model, applied by Choice Experiment. For the study, we have chosen attributes and levels of forest landscape. In specific, topographical forest type, forest type, forest density, recreational factor (side trip, accessibility of valley) and WTP were included in attributes. Based on factors, we have made 48 choice sets with Balanced and Orthogonal form using SAS 9.1. The efficiency of questionnaire was 6.02 (D-Error: 0.1) and choice set and socio-economic variable were selected. In order to reduce cognitive load of respondent, 96 choice sets were divided into 4 types in questionnaire so that respondent could respond to 12 choice sets respectively. Population was citizens from 7 metropolitan cities including Seoul, and the interview survey was conducted to find out average annual WTP per household for the total 280 interviewees. As a result, In the Non-ASC model, Mcfadden' ${\rho}$ had 0.21, and Log Likelihood: -2,631. Average annual WTP per household for forest landscape was 266,723 Won(Korean currency).

  • This research investigates the quantitative screening methods for the Grant Funding system and seeks for the efficient evaluation of a number of proposals. We search foreign cases of Grand Funding, but we found no appropriate model for using in Korea. Thus, we had to develope our own model for better screening. First, we analyse the existing evaluation system and find some problems and challenges. Second, we suggest a quantitative screening system for Grant Funding with a numeric model, and operates a tedious simulation by using the previous data and our suggested model. Third, we test the suggested model and find the optimal model by using simulation method The number of data analysed for simulation is larger than 200 thousands. Last, we suggest some brief policy implications based on the results in the paper.

  • This study purports to examine the potential determinants of welfare attitudes of Korean Youth. In a sense, this study could be considered as exploratory since the independent variables for model are chosen in a somewhat arbitrary manner. The independent variables are mostly value orientation of Youth. The welfare attitude is measured by the question asking respondent's nonnative idea on the primary care-giver in the old age. Data has been collected by National Youth Policy Institute as a part of research project, named "Korean Youth Development Indicators". The analysis shows that the welfare attitudes of Korean youth is influenced. by a number of factors. such as parent's education, a proxy for the parents' SES, attitude toward equality. and state's responsibility in general. The author contends that although this is an exploratory kind of study, this study contributes not only to the research in the field, hut also to the welfare policy-makers by providing generalizable outcomes on the value and attitudes of Korean youth on welfare issues. After all, policy needs public supports to be sustained.

  • The aim of this paper is to analyze resettlement cost and decision factors of resettlement since Redevelopment Promotion Projects. Range of resettlement cost was averagely increased 204% by using actual data. Consequently, the research is operated for aboriginal people in these areas by a questionnaire. The questionnaire ask a payment range of the resettlement cost with 4 stages; 150% and less, 180% and less, 200% and less, excess of 200%. Research scope is consist of Seo-kumsa, Civil Park, Chung-mu and Young-do. These areas are redevelopment of Busan metropolitan city. Resettlement is come under the influence of the resettlement cost and many factors by each specific character. In many alternatives for resettlement, understanding the reason why aboriginal peoples select a certain alternative and if we actualize the proper alternative, aboriginal peoples' resettlement ratio will be increased. Moreover it ask housing characteristic, housing life pattern for understanding aboriginal peoples' characteristic. Also data analysis model is ordinal logistic model'. In analysis result, resettlement cost is 150% of aboriginal assets. and significance parameter is sex, job, income, region, affection, attachment, housing possession type, size and others have influence on aboriginal peoples' resettlement.

  • Bottled water market is growing at a rate of 10% per year in Korea. However, bottled water exhausts ground water. Korean government proposed to provide 'bottled tap water' at a low price in 2008. This study is the estimation of 'bottled tap water' market scale using binary logit model. we calculate that 'bottled tap water' market scale is from at least 92 billion won to 154 billion won by 150, 250 won per a bottled water, respectively. This paper indicates that scale of 'bottled tap water' market is a half of 'bottled water' market in 2007. This result provides that policy-makers with available and responsible information regarding the scale of 'bottled tap water' market.

  • This paper investigates the effect of weather factors(such as winds, rain, snows, temperature, clouds and humidity) on transmission line outages. The result shows that weather variables have significant effects on the transmission line historical outages and the relationship between them is nonlinear. Multiple regression analysis using Logit model is proved to be appropriate in forecasting line failure rate in KEPCO systems. It could also provide system operators with useful informations about system operation and planing.

  • This paper aims at investigating which factors play important roles in selecting government's new core IT industries and how competitive they are. We surveyed 6 competitiveness factors and 17 IT industries for the expert group. The logit and probit models were estimated and SWOT analysis was performed. The empirical results show that government put emphasis on marketability, externality and technology, not publicity, when selecting IT new core industry. The skilled human resources turn out to be a threat factor in the government selected IT new core industries such as home-network, third generation semi-conductor. Therefore, training or education system for skilled labors is required to develop and nurture such industries. The contribution to small medium venture industry and publicity are lower in the several industries such as intelligent service robots, post PC, embodied S/W, next generation battery, which are selected by government, not by standardized data based criterion. in such industries, marketabilities, technology, skilled human resources are threats factors to such industries. Therefore every effort for enhancing the marketability and R&D investment and education system for skilled labor are necessary to develop the industries.

  • Customer Loyalty is very important for a company to be survived and to make profit for a long time. Especially, since the credit card company has to manage proper card members and merchants, the CRM(Customer Relationship Management) is much emphasized. A loyalty score is more essential to credit card companies which provide differential financial services based on card members and merchants than any other companies. In this paper, we discuss behavioral measures to define customer loyalty and suggest a method to make loyalty score with an example of a credit card company. The loyalty score developed is considered easy to understand and simple to apply in card industry. In the development of loyalty score, first, we define the loyal customers and non-loyal customers by measuring variables indicating loyalty. And we perform individual logistic regression by each exploratory measuring variable and obtain the weight of measure variables using Chi-square statistics which is used for model fitness. The loyalty score suggested shows very stable results in terms of PSI (Population Stability Index) as time goes.
