This paper deals with a method to measure the thickness of scale-layer, iron oxide formed on the surface of the rolling steel, using a dielectric lens antenna. The dielectric lens antenna has an independent characteristic with the frequency in the X-band and changes the spherical wave radiated from a horn antenna into a plane wave at the focusing point. Using this concept, we regard a scale-layer on the rolling steel as a dielectric-PEC(Perfect Electric Conductor) layer and apply a theoretical analysis of the normal-incident plane wave. To reduce the phase error arising from the use of the dielectric lens antenna, this paper utilizes a regression process algorithm. In comparison with the conventional iteration algorithm, the present algorithm led to a unique solution for the thickness of the scale-layer.

Purpose: In this study, the changes in the shape of silicone hydrogel lenses, dryness of lens and objective/ subjective symptoms that could be induced by repeating dryness of lens and objective/subjective symptoms were investigated. Methods: After drying and rehydrating of silicone hydrogel lenses with different lens material and thickness for 4 times, their overall diameters and base curves were compared. Subjective symptoms, non-invasive tear break-up time (NIBUTs) and blinking rate were evaluated after wearing dehydrated silicone hydrogel lens. Results: Overall diameter and base curve increased in all tested silicone hydrogel lenses by repeating dryness and rehydration. The degree of change in over all diameter and base curve were variable on the material. There were irregular change of lens parameters in thicker lens. When the subjects wore silicone hydrogel lenses after drying and rehydrating, their NIBUTs were decreased and blink rates were increased regardless of lens material or thickness. In addition, repetitive drying of silicone hydrogel lenses affected the lens fitting. Therefore, subjective symptoms such as itching, pain, irritation, foreign body sensation, dryness tended to be increased. Conclusions: The results obtained from the study may suggest to develop durable silicone hydrogel contact lenses against dry environment since the changes in parameters of silicone hydrogel lens and the subjective discomfort were observed after repetitive drying and rehydration.
In the zoom lens of digital still cameras with the variation of the image plane generated by various symmetric error factors such as curvature, thickness and refractive index error of each lens surface about the optic axis, we induce a theoretical condition to fix constantly the image plane by translating the compensator group of the zoom lens by using the Gaussian bracket. We confirm the validity of this condition by using three examples of general zoom lens types with 3, 4, and 5 groups, respectively. When these error factors are randomly changed within the range of tolerance according to the Monte Carlo method, we verify that the distributions of the degree of moving of the compensator are normal distributions at three zoom lens types. From capability analysis using these results, we theoretically propose the method estimating the standard deviation, that is, sigma-level, as a function of the maximum movement of the compensator.
A null lens is designed for testing the hyperbolic mirror which is the first mirror of the off-axis three mirror anastigmat(TMA) designed as a high resolution camera for remote sensing. To choose a better null lens system for the hyperbolic surface under test, both autostigmatic and mixed type null lenses are designed and analysed for sensitivity with respect to change of each surface parameter such as the radius of curvature and the thickness.
Purpose: To compare and analyze the ocular changes after wearing conventional and 2-weeks cosmetic tinted contact lens, which were made of different material and fabrication method. Methods: Thirty five university students, age of twenties, participated in this study. With daily wearing schedule, they had worn temporary cosmetic tinted lens for 2 weeks and conventional tinted lens for two month in their right and left eye, respectively. Subjective symptoms and objective signs were graded by using CCLRU scales and corneal thickness were measured after 1 day and 2 months wearing, and under or over 5 hours wearing in a day, respectively. Results: Major subjective symptoms found in the student wearing cosmetic tinted contact lens for a 1 day and 2 months were dryness, redness, foreign body sensation and itchiness. It was also found that those symptoms were more severe in left eye (conventional cosmetic tinted contact lens) than right eye (2-weeks cosmetic tinted contact lens). However, symptoms of redness in both eyes showed statistically significant difference in the case of 1 day and 2 months wearing and under or over 5 hours wearing in a day (p=0.000). After 2 months wearing, left eye with conventional cosmetic tinted contact lens showed limbal redness (p=0.000) and bulbar conjunctival redness (p=0.012) with statistically significance, whereas there was no significant difference in both eyes before lens wear. Left eye showed statistically significant changes in all objective signs, but right eye showed palpebral conjunctival redness, corneal staining and conjunctival staining. Therefore, it was concluded that conventional cosmetic tinted contact lens may be more effective on ocular changes after wearing of lens. A statistically significant changes in both eyes after wearing lens were found that corneal thickness increased about $5{\mu}m$ (p=0.001) in right eye whereas $7{\mu}m$ (p=0.004) in left eye. Conclusions: A statistically significant number of participants in this study preferred to wearing of high Dk/t temporary cosmetic tinted contact lens made by sandwich method which resulted in less ocular changes and may give more healthy and safe ocular conditions.

Subminiature lenses are currently widely used in mobile phone cameras and are usually produced by injection molding. The lens molding process has the unique feature of a runner volume that is much larger than the part volume, and this feature should be considered when determining the mold design and molding conditions. In this study, a shell-type runner was proposed as an alternative to the conventional cylindrical runner used for lens molding. An injection molding simulation was performed by applying the proposed shell runner, and the simulation results were compared with those from the cylindrical runner case. It was found that the shell runner could considerably reduce the runner cooling time with only a slight increase in the injection pressure. The effect of the runner thickness was then investigated numerically in terms of the mold filling and cooling characteristics, from which an optimal runner thickness could be determined.
We generated a nondiffracting beam and investigated its intensity profile on propagation. We first obtained an annular output beam from Nd:YAG laser with a negative branch unstable ring resonator and, using a 1m focal length lens, we generated a Bessel- Gauss beam. The inner radius of the annular output beam was 2.57 mm and the ring width was 0.145 mm. The intensity profile of the nondiffracting beam did not show any appreciable diffraction up to 33 m distance from the focal lens. This result was compared with the theory.
A rod-type aspheric lens collimator for the optical telecommunication system which shows high coupling efficiency and experiences small coupling loss for misalignment errors is designed. The working distance, thickness, and diameter of the rod-type aspheric lens are determined to be close to those of the GRIN lens collimator in order to replace the GRIN lens with the rod-type aspheric lens. Since the coupling loss mainly originated from the spherical aberration of the lens, the spherical aberration in the rod-type aspheric lens is reduced drastically, and it turns out that the coupling efficiency of the rod-type aspheric lens collimator is higher than that of the available collimators, such as ball lens, GRIN lens, and C-type lens collimators.
Purpose: To improve the quality of Korean progressive addition lenses, we measured the optical and geometrical elements of them and evaluated their qualities. Methods: We have measured the refractive power, the thickness at optical center and prism power for home and foreign progressive addition lenses which were distributed in the domestic market, and then have done a comparative analysis according to international standards. Results: The qualities of Korean progressive addition lens were on an equal footing with famous foreign brand products, but they were out of tolerance in a few cases. Conclusions: The careful attention is required to progressive addition lens, therefore, it is considered that more precise quality control is an essential element to strength the competitiveness of Korean products in the world market.
A mathematical model is proposed to analyze the force; acting on the hard contact lens fitted on the cornea. The model incorporates the nonlinear equations and their numerical solution program, based on the formulations of surface tension force arising from the capillary action in the tear-film layer between the lens and cornea. The model simulates how the adhesion between lens and cornea varies according to the base curves and diameters of the lenses. When the spherical lens is fitted on the spherical cornea it is to rotate downward due to the weight of lens itself until it reaches an equilibrium position along the cornea where the counter(upward) moment caused by net force between the upper and lower portion of the periphery of lens. It is found that both the adhesion and displacement of lens along the cornea, where the gravity of lens balances the capillary-induced upward force, increases rapidly as the base curve of lens increases, i.e., as the lens gets flatter, while the increase in the diameter of lenses has resulted in the less increase in the rotation and adhesion. With the base curve and diameters of lenses being remained constant the increase in surface tension of tear film yields the increase in the adhesion between the cornea and lens while the initial rotation of lens is inversely proportional to the surface tension of the tear film.
