  • Level design of online FPS games has not been researched enough for its active development and service. For the most part, FPS design patterns only have been classified based on PVE level design. However, it is necessary to look at it in light of PVP level design in the online FPS multi-player games. Therefore, we analyzed one of the most preferred team-death match levels in 'Point Blank'. This research holds its significance in suggesting the new PVP level design patterns compared to PVE level design patterns after conducting in-depth interviews on three FPS developers.

  • Game level design is one of the important parts in the commercial game development. Because of its complexity in combining game components, game design work could be classified into a non-linear problem. In this paper, we propose a new automated game level design system by using genetic algorithms. With our system, a game designer easily generates an optimized game level by designating the key parameters m the initial stage of game design. Our system can be useful in reducing the trial-errors in the initial game level design process.

  • Until now, the level design for games has played a very important role in the process of developing games since it has been mapped out and applied so the game players have fun to certain level in playing games. So as game becomes more complex the number of game designers also grow and to make diverse levels, work force and working hours also should grow larger. In this treatise, it suggest a way where level's structure is changing dynamically so with only one level you can experience diverse levels by introducing wandering agent to the level structure. Also, I am trying to show the possibility of balance between the players by wandering agent.

  • Main focus of FPS game's play is securing vantage points in space based on specific theme and removing enemies. It could be more directly interacted with players' game space than other genres. This paper analyzes design patterns on FPS game of nine types consisted of three themes : past war, modern war, near future war, which is based on 10 different patterns of near future theme-oriented by Hullett and Whitehead. As an outcome, an important function of 'element of cover' was found additionally as a main pattern besides the 10 different patterns. And by analyzing its attributes, it is suggested the efficient way to use the 'cover' pattern for level-design. This result can be utilized as an empirical guideline for level-design of FPS games by theme.

  • Nowadays, CAD has became an essential tool for designers due to its easy edition and manipulation as well as the capability of communication between designers. Differences between design tool interfaces can cause gaps when visualize designer's ideas. This study is about the differences between various levels of metaphor interface language which is based on the theory of the Hutchins that high-level language interface can reduce the steps of process to visualize the idea of the designers than low-level language interface. This research is based on the assumption that high-level language interface will less interrupt the flow of the design thinking and make more various visual outcomes than the low-level language interface. We verified the hypothesis by analyzing differences of design thinking flow between user groups who used two different animation software. Hopefully, the verification of the hypothesis in this study can be able to guide the use pattern of the CAD tools.

  • To apply the player's experiences to the design process of the game levels set by the developer, gameplay behavior analysis is needed. The player's behavior which is different by how much he got experiences from the play has generally been studied by one computational approach based on numerical data and the other HCI(human-computer interaction) approach through heuristic analysis. For the analysis of the player's behavior with the level design patterns in FPS(first-person shooter) games, in this paper those methods are used to code 12 main types of action, which in turn is simply categorized into 5 kinds of behavior pattern. Along with it, an optimized visualization is proposed to intuitively compare the flow of behavior pattern with the time of playing game.

  • A game player experiences gameplay that game designer sets in play space according to goal of a game. Player's experiential behaviors are affected by the space structure of game level and its arrangements. Therefore, it is an important process to understand and analyze the space structure of game level at the initial stage of game designing. In this paper, we was aimed to analyze the space structure and components of FPS game level based on space theory. To attain the objective, observation was carried out on a total of 204 levels in 3 different kinds of FPS games and the difference in the distribution of spatial composition factors by the goal of a game level was identified. As a result of the analysis, experiential behaviors in the play space show a clear difference according to the goal of the game level and the space structure that derives this is different.

  • The development case presented is about the development of smart education contents for development of creativity, and suggests the development contents and approach to design of software of teaching materials based on G-Learning which allow learner to interact depending on their dispositions. Above all, focusing on design approach in order to maximize interaction which is the characteristic of game, the education contents that enable learner to be immersed by education level as per learner's disposition have been developed, and it allows to compose the level of difficulty based contents according to level design plan. Also, it is the case that the contents allow for effective education by setting visual environment which enables learner to be immersed depending on learner's disposition with the realization of object which appears in respect of vision and visual Customizing of character.
