Study to Improve Performance of TFT-LCD Module-based VLC Control Sensor (TFT-LCD 모듈 기반 VLC 제어센서 성능향상을 위한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study to embody LED visible light communication visual signal delivery system based on TFT-LCD module and to analyze a performance for digital signals. LED lighting enables to transmit data through light, to embody visible light communication, and to control lights in different wavelengths according to LED materials and structural materials. In this study, we aim to create a transmitting and receiving sensor that has implemented LED and visual sensors to LED efficiency and existing TFT-LCD module so as to estimate and indicate a communication distance and to find out application methods and problems. Also, by implementing TFT-LCD technology and next-generation LED visual communication technology, this study aims to check the possibility of technological realization by applying them to various means of communication including ubiquitous communication.

  • Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research (KSTAR) 장치는 국내 유일의 초전도 자석을 이용한 핵융합 연구 장치로서 초고온의 플라즈마를 생성하여 차세대 에너지원인 핵융합 에너지를 획득하는 것을 목표로 두고 있다. 플라즈마를 생성부터 유지하기 위해서는 수소 동위원소를 토카막 내부로 공급해 주어야 하는데 이러한 수소동위원소를 "연료"라 부르며, 이 연료를 토카막 내부로 공급해 주는 시스템을 연료주입 시스템(Fueling System)이라고 한다. KSTAR에서는 토카막 내부로 고속의 연료 주입이 필요하고 정밀한 양의 연료를 공급하는 밸브를 사용하여야 하며, 이러한 밸브를 제어 할 수 있는 제어기를 필요로 한다. 위의 사항에 적합한 피에조 밸브(Piezoelectric Valve)는 2 msec 이내의 개폐시간과 500 Torr ${\ell}$/s 이상의 유량을 흘려줄 수 있는 피에조 밸브로 압전소자에 가해지는 전압(0~250 V)에 따라 변위의 양에 비례하여 연료가 진공용기 내로 유입된다. 압전소자의 변위는 최대 140 ${\mu}m$로 최적화되어 있어야 하며, 정전용량(Capacitance)는 30~40 nF이어야 한다. 또한 소자에 힘(Force)를 가해 최대 7 N으로 136 ${\mu}m$의 변위를 가진 소자를 사용해야 한다. 피에조 밸브의 특성으로는 아날로그 신호로 작동이 되어야 하며, 유량신호를 피드백하여 밸브의 구동 전압을 정밀하게 제어 되어야 한다. 피드백 제어를 위해 압력센서는 XCS-190 Series를 사용하여 낮은 유량에서도 민감하게 반응하도록 제작하였으며, 고전압이 유기 되었을 때 제어기를 보호하기 위한 정션박스를 설치하였다. 밸브 제어기는 피에조 밸브의 개방 속도를 높이기 위해 밸브 구동 전압을 순간적으로 높이는 POP 전압을 생성하는 기능과 유량 신호를 피드백해서 밸브 구동 전압을 정밀 제어 하는 기능을 가지고 있다. 제어장치는 아날로그 및 디지털 제어회로의 전원용 +15 V DC와 밸브 구동용 +250 V DC 출력용의 전원 공급 장치(Power supply unit), 펄스 및 트리거 신호를 생성하는 Master Programmer unit), Pop 전압과 피드백의 중요한 기능을 수행하는 Valve controller unit로 제작 되었다. 피에조 밸브와 제어기는 상호 작용하여 동작을 원활히 할 수 있도록 특성 실험을 진행하여야 하며, 진공상태에서 Lack의 유무를 확인하여야 한다. 현재 개발 제작된 밸브의 진공누설시험 및 특성실험을 진행하고 있으며, KSTAR 5차 캠페인에 적용할 계획이다.

Architecture of an LDPC Decoder for DVB-S2 using reuse Technique of processing units and Memory Relocation (연산기와 메모리 재사용을 이용한 효율적인 DVB-S2 규격의 LDPC 복호기 구조)

  • Low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes are recently emerged due to its excellent performance. The standard for European high definition satellite digital video broadcast, DVB-S2 has adopted LDPC codes as a channel coding scheme. This paper proposes a DVB-S2 LDPC decoder architecture using a hybrid parity check matrix which is efficient in hardware implementation for both decoders and encoders. The hybrid H-matrices are constructed so that both the semi-random technique and the partly parallel structure can be applied to design encoders and decoders. Using the hybrid H-matrix scheme, the architecture of LDPC decoder for DVB-S2 can be very practical and efficient. In addition, we show a new Variable Node processor Unit (VNU) architecture to reuse the VNU for various code rates and optimized block memory placement to reuse. We design a DVB-S2 LDPC decoder of code rate 1/2 usng the proposed architecture. We estimate the performance of the DVB-S2 LDPC decoder and compare it with other decoders.

  • Recently many display devices support the digital display interface as display market growth. DisplayPort is a next generation display interface at the PC, projector and high definition content applications in more widely used connection solution development. This paper implements multiple streams based on the behavior of the main link that is suitable for the display port v1.1a standard. The limit point of Displayport, interface between the Sink Device and Sink Device is also implemented. And two or more differential image data are enable to output the result through four Lanes stated in display port v1.1a, of two or more display devices without the addition of a separate Lane. The Multiple Video Streaming Controller is implemented with 6,222 ALUTs and 6,686 register, 999,424 of block memory bits synthesized using Quartus II at Altera Audio/Video Development board (Stratix II GX FPGA Chip).

  • Ongoing SWIM(System Wide Information Management) with the United States and European countries as the center is a part of the ASBU(Aviation System Block Upgrade) program improved performance of aeronautical data system in the International Civil Aviation Organization and a core technology of Integrated Aeronautical Data Management Network to elevate service through digitally aeronautical information management. Therefore, in this paper, we analyze SWIM architecture and network applied the concept of SOA(Service Oriented Architecture), and propose methods of implementation transforming applications operating established legacy aeronautical data system into integrated aeronautical data management network through adapter technology. This will allow development of middleware and application suitable for the next generation infrastructure network environment for efficient ATM(Air Traffic Management)and provide timely required information for users.

Indoor Position Estimation Using Stereo Image Sensor and LEDs (스테레오 이미지 센서와 LED 조명을 이용한 실내 측위)

  • In recent year, along with the rapid development of LED technology, many applications using LEDs with Visible Light Communication(VLC) have been researched. Since it is easy to provide LOS communication environment along with cheap deployment cost, the indoor positioning system based on VLC has been actively studied. In this paper, we propose an accurate indoor positioning algorithm using a stereo image sensor and white-light LEDs with the visible light communication. Indoor white-light LEDs are located at the ceiling of a room and broadcast their position information by VLC technology. Mobile receiver with stereo image sensor receives LED position information by VLC and estimates its position and angle information. Simulation results are given to show the efficiency of proposed indoor positioning algorithm.

Implementation of Integrated Receiver for Terrestrial/Cable/Satellite HD Broadcasting Services (유럽형 지상파/케이블/위성 멀티모드 HD 방송 수신이 가능한 통합 수신기 구현)

  • This paper presents an integrated receiver to support multimode broadcasting standards such as DVB-T2, DVB-C2, and DVB-S2 in a single platform. The integrated receiver consists of a tuner block, a receiver engine, a frame processor, and an A/V decoder. The receiver engine includes a channel decoding engine and a demodulation engine to perform OFDM and APSK demodulations. The frame processor performs deinterleaving and BB frame decoding functions. The demodulator engine and the frame processor are implemented in two FPGA devices and DSP-based embedded software, respectively. To verify the functionality of the integrated receiver, it is tested in the laboratory. Commercial PC-based modulators are used to generate the DVB-T2, DVB-C2, and DVB-S2 modulated signals. The integrated receiver was tested under various operation modes as specified in the standards such as DVB-T2, DVB-C2, and DVB-S2 and showed successful operation in all the scenarios tested.

  • The purpose of the study was to explore the conceptual and theoretical fundamentals of learning object. Learning object, a new paradigm for instructional design in the era of information technology, has attracted much research efforts since it has lots of advantages in terms of production efficiency and use effectiveness. A theory for the systematic design of this new instructional design, however, looks far from mature. Since the birth of the idea of a learning object has been found in the field of computer software design, such as object-oriented software development, learning object does not have enough theoretical underpinnings in terms of learning and instruction. The researcher tried to establish theoretical foundations for this new, alien concept as a learning design theory. Relevant research efforts and discourses have been discussed for this purpose.

  • Gamification is an important technology for the museum experience in the future, but there is a lack in both its application and academic studies in Korea. Therefore this study targets the technical strategies of museum gamification by studying domestic and international cases. For this purpose, this study analyzes and compares the cases as personalization, and audience interaction of museum experience and sees how the structure of the digital program affects the museum experience in detail by applying MDA framework to the comparisons. For visitors' active interaction with the museums, gamification should be designed in a way to contribute to visual expression of self identity, utilization of the museum space, constructivist learning free from limit on space and time, and interaction with other people.

  • Since smart phones are widely used globally, the demand for high-speed mobile communications are increasing. To accommodate the increased communication demand, the next-generation mobile communication services such as LTE-Advanced are deployed. In the LTE-Advanced base stations, the base station schemes of Digital Unit (DU) and Radio Unit (RU) are widely used. Here, the link between DU and RU is called fronthaul link. In the current fronthaul link, a digital optical communication interface is used, which is called Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI). However, the CPRI link cannot support the increased mobile traffic efficiently. Therefore, in this paper, we investigate an alternative technology based on the Radio over Fiber (RoF) to accommodate the increased mobile traffic economically.
