  • Digital radiographic systems based on solid-state detectors, commonly referred to as flat-panel detectors, are gaining popularity in clinical practice. Large area, flat panel solid state detectors are being investigated for digital radiography. The purpose of this work was to evaluate the active matrix flat panel digital x-ray detectors in terms of their modulation transfer function (MTF), noise power spectrum (NPS), and detective quantum efficiency (DQE). In this paper, development and evaluation of a selenium-based flat-panel digital x-ray detector are described. The prototype detector has a pixel pitch of $139\;{\mu}m$ and a total active imaging area of $14{\times}8.5\;inch^2$, giving a total 3.9 million pixels. This detector include a x-ray imaging layer of amorphous selenium as a photoconductor which is evaporated in vacuum state on a TFT flat panel, to make signals in proportion to incident x-ray. The film thickness was about $500\;{\mu}m$. To evaluate the imaging performance of the digital radiography(DR) system developed in our group, sensitivity, linearity, the modulation transfer function(MTF), noise power spectrum (NPS) and detective quantum efficiency(DQE) of detector was measured. The measured sensitivity was $4.16{\times}10^6\;ehp/pixel{\cdot}mR$ at the bias field of $10\;V/{\mu}m$ : The beam condition was 41.9\;KeV. Measured MTF at 2.5\;lp/mm was 52%, and the DQE at 1.5\;lp/mm was 75%. And the excellent linearity was showed where the coefficient of determination ($r^2$) is 0.9693.

  • In case of the Dental X-ray apparatus, the diameter (or the field size) of the tip of the cone should be less than 7 cm according to the Diagnosis Radiation Equipment Safety Management. However, deviation from the field is not expected to be big as photography is made at close range from the skin. Also, as the size of film or digital detector used in intra-oral photography is $3\times4cm^2$, the size mentioned above can be considered to be much bigger. Furthermore, the patient dose by short-distance photography can not be ignored. Therefore, effect on the patient dose, resolution and image qualty was examined by reducing the cone diameter by 0.5 cm interval. The result showed that the patient dose was reduced and a partial improvement in picture contrast was observed. Therefore, it can be concluded from these results that further investigation may be worthwhile in terms of policy.

  • In this study, we are purposed to find the educational effect of practical training using a 3D printed structure-based blind box on multidimensional radiographic image interpretation. The subjects were 83 (male: 49, female: 34) 2nd year radiological science students who participated in the digital medical imaging practice that was conducted for 3 years from 2020 to 2022. The learning method used 3D printing technology to print out the inside structure of the blind box designed by itself. After taking X-rays 3 times (x, y, z axis), the structure images in the blind box were analyzed for each small group. We made the 3D structure that was self-made with clay based on our 2D radiographic images. After taking X-rays of the 3D structure, it was compared whether it matches the structural image of the blind box. The educational effect for the practical training surveyed class faithfulness, radiographic image interpretation ability (attenuation concept, contrast concept, windowing concept, 3-dimensional reading ability), class satisfaction (interest, external recommendation, immersion) on a 5-point Likert scale as an anonymous student self-writing method. As a result, all evaluation items had high positive effects without significant differences between males and females. Practical education using blind boxes is a meaningful example of radiology education technology using 3D printing technology, and it is expected to be used as content to improve students' problem-solving skills and increase satisfaction with major subjects.

  • Medical imaging has increased rapidly in the increase of interest in health, with the development of computer technology, digitization of medical imaging is rapidly advancing, PACS has been introduced to the medical field. Increase in the production of medical images by these phenomena made increased the workload of radiologist who must read a medical image. in response to the need for secondary diagnosis using a computer, The term of CAD in medical radiology field was introduced. In this study, we have proposed a CAD algorithm for the interpretation of the image obtained by the digital X-ray mammography equipment. The experiments were performed by programmed in Visual C++ for the proposed algorithm. A result of the execution of the CAD algorithm seven sample images, the results of five samples was confirmed in breast cancer and benign tumors, both the images sample was error processing. If you use a program that implements this with the algorithm proposed in this study it is helpful to reading breast images, and it is considered to contribute significantly to the early detection of breast cancer.

  • This convergence study analyzed the effectiveness of digital radiography system of copper(Cu) filter in the added filtration for the removal of lower energy radiation through dose and image evaluation. We were analyzed from April to June 2015 result of the examination. Cu filter was applied to each non, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 mm according to change of kV and mAs and doses were evaluated. Image quality was evaluated by PSNR, MAE, MSE, CNR, SNR and qualitative analysis was performed by seven items for resolution and contrast from chest x-ray criteria of national cancer checkup. The absorbed doses with Cu were lowered by 16-88 % than non-filter but the gaps decreased as kV increased. PSNR were over 30 dB and all significant and CNR and SNR were superior with non-filter but in the qualitative analysis, there were different statistical significant according to each item. The score of 0.1 mm filter was high at pulmonary blood vessel observation and in the 0.3 mm Cu, there were no statistical signigicant except high density and full of air portion. Cu filter can improve image quality with lower radiation dose using better radiation quality and correction power at digital radiography system.

  • A computed Radiography (CR) system by use of reusable Image Plate (IP) offers a convenient and reliable way to replace a conventional film-screen system for NDT (non-destructive testing) field. The quality of a radiography to detect a defect of welded objects depends on the procedure embracing several factors such as measurement conditions, image plate type/class, radiation energy, radiation type, and source to image plate distance. Also, the ability of images to detect a flaw reduces with increasing object thickness. In the study, the properties of gamma ray source were summarized for NDT field and inspection images of CR image system manufactured by FUJI were acquired using $^{75}Se$ and $^{192}Ir$ with welded objects. We analyzed the gray scale of hole defect image by using XCAP image processing program and calculated the image contrast and SNR in definition. Also the sesitivities of image quality indicator(IQI) were calculated for hot and cooling tube image of $^{75}Se$ and $^{192}Ir$.

  • X-ray mammography is the most effective method for the diagnosis of calcified lesions of various breast diseases. To reduce patient dose and to obtain optimal image required for diagnosis, the performance of the mammography system should be maintained continuously. Because the target (anode) angle of the X-ray tube is measured from the central X-ray, the effective angle can be slightly different in view of the position on the detector, which can result in degrading spatial resolution of the imaging within the field of view. In this study, we measured the MTF to examine spatial resolution for positions on the detector in the digital mammography system. For a tungsten wire of $50{\mu}m$ diameter, the highest spatial frequency was obtained. It meant that a wire diameter for measuring MTF through LSF should be small compared to the pixel size of the detector used in the mammography system. The spatial resolution showed slightly different performance according to positions on the detector. The center position gave the best spatial resolution and positions away from the center showed the degraded performance although the difference of the spatial resolution was small. The effective focal spot size of the full width at half maximum also showed similar result. It concluded that the slightly increase of the effective focal spot size gave the degradation of the spatial resolution for positions on the detector.

  • This study intended to investigate the optimum conditions for lumbar test that has the highest level of irradiation conditions among general test sites. To to this, the most widely used irradiation conditions in terms of statistics were set as standards; test groups applied with DMF were selected; tests groups suitable for clinical trials were selected by using suggested patient dose. Blind tests were conducted by 10 specialists and radiologists. The results suggested that under the optimum conditions, the radiation dose reduction of 2.09 mGy, 4.42 mGy and 3.65 mGy can be achieved in forward-backward test, lateral test and 4-direction test, respectively. There is a need of further studies on the optimization of irradiation conditions in accordance with the conditions of patients.

  • To evaluate the effect of dose and image quality for Chest Digital Tomosynthesis(CDT) using sensitivity and tube voltage(kV). CDT images of the phantom were acquired varying sensitivity 200, 320, 400 according to set tube voltage of 125 kV and 135 kV. The dose and Dose Area Product(DAP) according to change of sensitivity and kV were evaluated and Image quality was evaluated by PSNR, CNR, SNR using Image J. Dose were lowered 14~23% less than sensitivity 200, 125 kV and DAP were lowered 13~26% less than sensitivity 200, 125 kV. PSNR were over 27 dB, which were significant value and CNR, SNR were better as sensitivity value was lower. But there were different statistical significant to each item. CNR and SNR were not statistically significant at sensitivity 320, 135 kV(P>0.05). CDT can improve image quality with lower radiation dose using better than quality and correction power at digital radiography system.
