  • The animation should be produced to attract the audience's interests. Its characters will have the intended personalities through the interactions with the audiences, discarding the attributes of the nature. These personalities form the brand identity when they are exposed visually and will be powerful brand assets which lead the animation industry to the high-value added products. The brand identity of the character, the brand assets, can be used for various products in form of licensing and is noted to make an affirmative leverage effect. In this regard, the author has conducted an empirical research on the animation characters from the viewpoint of the brand, adopting, in particular, the Brand Personality Scale (BPS), which is the output of J. Aaker's (1997) study on brand personality defined as the human properties in relation with the brand. In addition, this study determines the correlation among the animation, brand and consumers based on the Sirgy's study (1982) resulting in that the better the brand and the consumer's personality are matched, the more the brand attitude is improved. In consequence, it is found that the animation characters have three personality levels such as refinement/ability, integrity and interests. The consumer's personality is divided into the 'practical ego-image' and the 'ideal ego-image' in the survey, and the survey result shows that the brand personality of the animation character exists between them.

  • In 1990, the City of Bucheon, Geonggi Province, became the first local government to create its own C.I Soon afterwards, this idea of having one's own C.I spread to the rest of the localities in Korea. Now, in 2003, 218 local governments have created their on Corporate Identities. It was an effort on the part or each local government to give a sense of belonging to the local community by creating a C.I which embodies, symbolizes and represents what is most unique about the locality and its community. It is something that each member of that community can identify himself or herself with. It is also something with which people from other localities can readily recognize that local community as this or that, thus increasing the brand-name-value of the locality. A friendly and easily recognizable C.I has an indirect effect of making the local government more accessible to the ordinary people, at least psychologically, overcoming the traditional image of overbearing officialdom of the bureaucracy. In this article, we propose to investigate whether the 218 local government C.Is, which have been created since 1990, have actually effected the above kinds of possible changes in the local governance or not. To that end, we will examine all 218 local government C.Is if they are successfully symbolizations of the local characters and identities. We will also try to point out sly problems, if there are any, and propose some alternative approaches to the designing of Local Government C.Is, by analyzing the mutual similarities in the very shapes and colors among all the 218 local government C.Is. It is our hope that this analyses will be of some use in the future formulations of the local policies for a more responsive local governance.

  • With the changing of social needs and paradigms, citizens are concerned about aesthetic and cultural community gardens from productive urban farms in Korea. It is still difficult, however, to cultivate a beautiful garden with a community to design, install and manage it. Therefore, this study analyzed the community garden design guidelines of other countries to derive the characteristics and implications. The research method analyzed six guidelines for community garden design in the UK, Canada, the USA, Australia and Japan. As a result of the study, most community garden design guidelines are opened freely via on-line service. The guidelines are composed with chronological processes such as intro, site selection, design, construction and maintenance. The introduction section treats definition, purpose, meaning, efficiency and success factors for community gardens. Site selection emphasizes site conditions (soil, light, shadow, water, etc.), landholding and insurance. The design section, however, lacks adequate drawings and case images. These guidelines offer little explanation with few illustrations and sentences. Construction sections explain about plantings, facilities, expense and details. The maintenance guidelines of community gardens contain how to control members, funding, harvesting, pests and plants. In addition, some guidelines include vandalism, organic cultivation methods, recording and advertisement. Lastly, the appendix contains a variety of checklists, administrative documents, guidelines, drawings, and contacts. This study will help understand the trends and characteristics of overseas community gardens design guidelines so as to also supply directions for guidelines to be introduced in Korea.

  • With entering the 21st century, modern people's dark inside and panic are emerging as the talking point on the theater stage. Even in the field of stage costume, the necessity of a research is being demanded through analyzing on psychological anguish and structure of characters. Accordingly, this study aims to allow the stage costume design to be expressed a human being's Doppelg$\ddot{a}$nger Image, which was elicited through analyzing a work of the play titled Le Grand C$\acute{e}$r$\acute{e}$monial by a playwriter Fernando Arrabal, who draws the conflictory and contradictory duplicity, which positions in a human being's deep inside by having chaos as catalyst. A research subject is 'Le Grand C$\acute{e}$r$\acute{e}$monial,' which was staged as the winter performance in commemoration of the 50th anniversary for the foundation of Dept. of Theater, Chung-Ang Univ. in November 2009. Psychology of characters in a play, which varies dimensionally, could be delivered, as nonverbal element called costume, by applying costume design of Cavanoza, Syl, Nice to Doppelg$\ddot{a}$nger Image such as Innocence vs Cruelty, Purity vs Superficiality and Restraint vs Freedom, which were elicited through analyzing characters. Through this study, the costume, which was expressed by visualizing a human being's Doppelg$\ddot{a}$nger Image, could be known to function as important dramatic factor of allowing character's psychology to be understood through costume as well as functioning as visual and sensible language, which is important for communication with the audience. A research on costume design, which reflects a character's complex inside, is expected to be likely continued through in-depth analysis on a playwriter's intention and on the appearing characters at the current point of time when an active research is being performed on stage costume in the wake of this study.

A style that a certain stream of fashion brings is not just limited in fragmentary tendencies and fads. That can be a code to communicate and function as a medium in itself. Music has been displaying it's power to fashion while fashion has been exercising it's influence over the music. There is an inseparable relationship between music and fashion in terms of expressing our images of the world: fashion delivers them through visuality and music does it by sound. Both fashion and music are reflecting our society as well as they are influencing on sociocultural aspects generally. • This study aimed to find the architectural meaning and characteristics of L'Art Sacr? Movement advocated by Dominican Father Marie Alain Couturie. From 1936 till 1954 Father Couturier was the chief editor of the review L'Art Sacr? that became very influential among art critics no longer satisfied with what was considered outdated 19th century church interior decoration. Marie Alain Couturie was a French Dominican friar and Catholic priest who gained fame as a designer of stained glass windows. He was noted for his modern inspiration in the field of Sacred Art. Couturier's greatest ambition was to revive Christian art by appealing to the independent masters of his time. From these viewpoint, we investigated the background and process of the movement and analyzed the architectural meaning and characteristics which represented the Art Sacr? movement. The analyzed chapel buildings were as follows: 1) The Church of Notre-Dame de Toute Gr?ce du Plateau d'Assy, bringing together Braque, Matisse, Rouault, L?ger and Chagall, 2) The Chapel of Saint-Marie Rosaire by Henri Matisse, 3) The Chapel of Notre Dame du Haut and The Couvent de La Tourette by Le Corbusier, and 4) The Rothko Chapel by Mark Rothko and Philip Johnson. These L'Art Sacr? projects inscribedthemselveswithin what was the century's most serious attempt at the reintegration of Art and religious space. Courturier's interactions with artists and architects are traced and shown to have played a major role in the evolution of the priest's thinking and Church interior decoration. At the same time, Courturier's clear and vigorous L'Art Sacr? articles were both defining the theoretical basis of new vision and anticipating the renewal of the religious space.
